can anybody tell me what is Pandora battery use for? when to use it? thanks
*
It's a standard psp battery and a standard Memory Stick Pro Duo which have got different files installed to it.You need to run an installer which converts the battery's ipl to a different one and this allows users to boot right to their memory stick upon boot instead of the flash 0 (Where you see the "Sony Computer Entertainment" with the music)

This hack is widely used to install custom firmwares on official firmware psps(Including psp slims). It is also used to downgrade PHAT psps to 1.50.

alo there..i juz got my psp yesterday, firmware 3.95..do i have to update the firmware or juz install the custom 1?..wat else can i do to make it cool? plz help me psp masters!
*
Do you have a psp with official firmware 3.95 installed on it or custom firmware 3.95GEN on it?
If you have a psp with 3.95GEN,then it'll be pretty easy to get some cool 'stuff' on your psp for you to enjoy, but if you do have a psp with official firmware 3.95,then it might be quite a hassle.

This is because you need to install custom firmware on it in order to enjoy some cool stuff on your psp,and you can only do so by using a Pandora's Battery.(Forget about modchips).

Tell me what firmware your psp is,and i'll try my best to lead you in the right direction.

it's the official firmware 3.95..mayb i'll ask sum1 from the forum to help me to upgrade to the latest custom firmware,so wat's yer suggestions ya? wat else can i do?  icon_question.gif

Ah,you can ONLY hack it using a Pandora's Battery.See the following.

1)Softmod the battery
-This requires you to have access to an ALREADY hacked psp a.k.a homebrew capable

2)Hardmod the battery
-This involves you cracking open the battery using a pick or anything like that, and snapping off a pin.(Very risky process, and you might cause injuries to yourself if it's not done right (No joke,i'm serious). This method might also take a couple of tries before you can get it to work, and this means....more batteries and a complete waste of money.
-Remeber,do it wrong, and your battery is cooked.

If you ask me,i'd go with the 1st process. It all depends on ya' smile.gif

And yes, once you've hacked your psp,you can play homebrew games on it as well as dumped games.

If you don't have any of the above, get an original battery and a genuine memory stick and give it to someone you trust in the forums. They will convert it into a Pandora's Battery.

This pandora batt Q&A (among others) should be added to the 1st page. I've seen poor Playboy answer this same question like only a gazillion times because people are just too lazy to search or read even.

@Playboy - I think you should take over the PSP Beginners thread since the TS isn't active anymore and I think the FAQ is in sore need of updating.
*
That is very true.I actually am a little disappointed because people tend to rely a little too heavily on us helpers and start to get a little lazy. But i just don't have the heart to tell them "Don't be lazy" hehe.

As for the PSP Beginners Thread, thanks for the suggestion but i can't do it at the very moment.Even if i do,it'll be a complete failure because i don't spend much time online these days.Once i've done with my PMR examinations,i'll do my best man. Thanks for that smile.gif

Well then, we'll just have to wait till you're done with your PMR  biggrin.gif . Even updating the 1st page with links to your guides is good enough, which by the way are very well written.
*
ah,thanks for those kind words man smile.gif
I'll get more guides done in a couple of weeks time smile.gif

sorry to ask here maybe again and again..
how to check whether the psp is fake or not?
i'm a lil bit of confused here..pls help me.
tq
*
You mean you want to checl wether your memory stick is a fake one or not?
If so,scroll to any tabs in your main menu(Like video or music etc),then hit triangle.
If it says "Memory Stick : Unknown",then it's a fake memory stick. If it says MagicGate Supported, then it's genuine.

erm i had my previous post deleted,so im using same firmware as paipai which is official firmware 3.95,how do i install 3.95GEN-2 using the softmod way?btw im clueless about making magic memory stick and pandora baterry using the softmod way...so any guide to help me?
*
Dude,come on' man...
I've told you a couple of times already. To create a Pandora's Battery the softmod way, you'll need access to an already hacked psp. This means you need access to a HOMEBREW CAPABLE psp.Only then you can run the Pandora's Battery creator tool.

For the hardmod way, you'll need to crack open the battery.

Please read my previous replies to your questions. mad.gif

Hi, I've looked at the 1st page and see that there's a guide on how to differentiate between fake and genuine Sony MSPD. Is there any guide on how to do the same for Sandisk MSPD?

Added on August 31, 2008, 5:14 pm

Just saw this, this way is the best to determine right?
*
Yeap, the best and it is the easiest way.

As for Sandisk sticks,it's just the same.I have a SanDisk stick with me smile.gif

psp can do what?i can surf lyn if got wireless conection ? its pes2008 is similar like the pes2008 pc version ?
currently in dilemma what to buy or not
*
I'll give you a short explaination.

A psp can view photos (Various different formats),listen to music (wma,mp3's),watch videos(mp4),play games (3d ones),browse the net(yes, you can browse LYN).

If you've got a hacked unit, then you can play homebrew games, use homebrew applications, apply custom CTF themes and do many MORE.

As for PES2008,it won't be as good looking as the PC version, but to me..it's good.
Go read up the reviews on it,and see the game graphics for yourself.

Yes,that is a good guide on how to hardmod your battery. You do NOT need to worry about the memory stick yet, just get the Pandora's Battery part done first. As i've told you before, doing this isn't easy and you might end up wasting a few batteries. You can also injure youself if you are not careful.

Send it to shop...it's up to you.If you feel that it's wise to pay a shopkeeper a large sum of money just to create a Pandora's Battery which is meant to be a FREE SERVICE...then do so.Nobody will stop you smile.gif
Do what's best for you.

Woi!,read my earlier posts lah..
I explained clearly...
You can only softmod the battery if you have access to a psp which already has custom firmware installed on it.

haha,paham tak sekarang?

What firmware is your psp?
If it's either 3.71m33,3.80m33,3.90m33 or 4.01m33,then you can follow this guide of mine to help you install CXMB 3.2.1 on your psp.Once done doing so,you can apply CTF themes to your psp.I don't recommend flash 0 themes because you'll need to access and alter several files in your flash 0 in order to get a theme installed. This means, your psp will brick if you do something wrong.Another disadvantage of using flash 0 themes is that you can't switch themes on the go.

You most probably have a fake stick. You might want to try formatting your memory stick on your PSP.If the same problem still occurs, then it's beyond my knowledge field.

*Make sure you back up all your important files before you format your stick*

rayz1031,you need to get a CTF theme which is made for 3.90M33.Themes which are made for different firmwares won't work on yours.

http://www.consolespot.net/forums/psp-them...me-3-90m33.html

Go there, register and download the CTF theme.Place it in ms0:/PSP/THEME and it'll work.

Added on September 6, 2008, 1:27 amYou can try this wonderful theme as well which is known as "HeartBeat".Download the 3.90m33 version, and place the CTF file in ms0:/PSP/THEME like usual.
