Hi,
We need to make it very clear that human emotions is not the same as animal emotions. We feel very sad because one of our pets died. But for rabbit it is not that way.
To a certain extend, I believe rabbits are quite solitary animals (contrary to popular beliefs) and they normally come in contact mostly for breeding. They establishes their own territories. That is what I derive from my experiences which many may not have the same opinion. But I guess it is very different based on different individuals. Some rabbits have the best temperament (through breeding of good genes, yes TEMPERAMENT are inherited) which can be bonded with a fellow good temperament rabbit.
At the end of the day it still boils down to how bad the HORMONES rage!
I do not think they will be depressed being alone. And to have a pet is to spend time with the pet. There should not be a reason for the rabbit to feel lonely if you spend ample of time with it. Also bear in mind, introducing another rabbit may not get the same effect like before.
My suggestion would be if you intend to get him/her another friend, intro before you purchase. See if fights break out but then again, things may change after some time. You need a lot of time to ascertain if both are okie with each other.
