I am thinking whether a normal FS becomes a chop is it due to their surroundings or is it when they are born, they are a chop ? If its surrounding got other kinds of jumping spiders around them and the normal FS gets to fight those spiders, eventually the normal FS will turn into a chop.
*
ya, this has been discussed b4. It seems that chop can influence normal FS to be chop eventually.
Wheather it is learnt behaviour, disease or delayed genetic manifestation is still anyone's guess.

Let me guess.. maybe u will get a jumping lizard inside instead of jumping spider... shakehead.gif

When i open covered leaves den sprang out a fugly lizard.. almost gime a heart attack leh.. sweat.gif
Sometimes maybe just ants ...den still okla.  tongue.gif

See u guys go catch fs.. i oso try search for FS nearby my housing area.

Caught 1 average - big size male FS and 1 average - small size male FS.

Only short fight coz both not chop n fierce type. Check out the average big size fs arm.. quite long, open wide show off during fighting stance.  laugh.gif
The smaller size fs oso not bad.. still can fight few rounds eventho lost.
After fight, i let go both fs.

Hope u guys there in SG will have a good FS tomorrow.  icon_idea.gif

Still keeping one of the fs in this plant which i caught end of jan or beginning of feb with Mangrovejumper.

Attached Image Attached Image
Here he is taken out for a walk. Kept him for at least 3 months leow. Notice the brownish patch on the abdomen. This becomes increasingly apparent in old fs. He looks well fed despite me not having bothered about feeding him for the past couple of weeks. I think ants make up his main diet. I just ensure the plant is lightly watered EVERYDAY.

Attached Image Attached Image
Here is he peeking out from its mansion nest which he had been faithfully staying for the past couple of weeks.

Attached Image Attached Image
Here i attempt to supplement his diet with wild Drosophila. I put a banana into this container i make and those Drosophila comes from nowhere and breed like hell. They fly around and at times land on the leaves near this container and hopefully at some times, my male fs can feed on them.

The netting is to keep out geckos going into the container to get at the flies and the water is to keep out ants wanting to feed on the rotting banana. Because of the water, the container will tend to float and may topple or hit the side of the outer container which holds the water which then defeats the purpose of the moat. Hence i also put a rock inside the container to weigh it down.
Simple but effective gadget to get many drosophilas. If i want some caught, i can always put a transparent plastic bag over the container and the Drosophilas will fly right into bag which i can transport them elsewhere as feed.

Attached Image
Some of my other plants i'm having in my porch. And i am collecting more every now and then.
Notice they are all rather leafy... for fs mah! haha!

Last 2 link is the same fight... error?

Added on May 3, 2009, 3:03 amKopao, Incredible clips u have there! Thanks man. I really enjoyed watching them. I also added some of the better ones in the first page. The longest fight from u is 16seconds. There is one 43seconds one, under "Don't Let Go" but technically not really fighting anymore.

So now among u guys, who is actually having First King? Is it your couplechop or one Yuda's 3 big fs? Do they have names? Really looks big leh...maybe like Bighead's or Hades size. If u all got macro digital camera, can show us some close-up of his big ones...or can take a shot on a 1mm grid paper, then can compare to BigHead's size.

Maybe this is the so call king kong fs ?

Wah very very happening in Singapore. Very interesting following ur activities and discussion. Very nice close-up photos by Ken too.

I suspect Thiania Subopressa can be found in Malaysia... but not just anywhere, maybe certain parts of malaysian forest. And yes, u can bet i will let everyone here know when i go on a expedition to hunt for them and when i can catch them.

WTF??!! INCREDIBLE FIGHT MAN!
it was crazy at 16-17 b4 Noobies did a funny rapid retreat to regain its position.
yangguo got flipped there but once after turning back right side up, it chiong again.
22s it got flipped again. Total time 43s with about 16s of break where YangGuo suddenly become horny..haha! Great, funny and unique match between a 1 arm and a chop. Wonderful!!!
Look forward to a rematch. Often the tables could turn.

wahlan eh...this time round(compared to last year), singapore fs matches more terror..., more kakis, more hunting ground covered, more power fs, more chops, more exciting, longer and gruesome fights.. everything also more. swee swee ah.

i can't wait for u guys to post the matches up esp the exciting ones and also the from the big fs too.
Hope to see a close up of Yuda's currently undefeated 1st king too.

Added on May 14, 2009, 12:51 amlevel-up means wat? become chop?? wah...if yuda one of big fs become chop....sorry la, who go fight with it would be "soong se"(offer to die)..haha!

But i wonder wheather anybody got dark horse or not.... quiet quiet don't say anything, suddenly when meet up...take out king kong sup pao also.

just an advice... don't feed too fat before match...they tend not be be as ferocious and a bit more sluggish if abdomen too fat. My friend's theory is that fat tummy means the oponent fs harder to push it, but it also means fs with the fat tummy harder to push forward too because their legs are infront of their abdomen. To push forward, they would need to drag a heavier burden if abdomen is fat. Maybe one day before match feed only small ant or don't feed(But 2 days b4 should feed la), just make sure got enuf water.
Look at my first recorded exciting match
Spider Fight - scareycat vs pippy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CWi7EUOTQA
the 2 fighters look like almost starving to death with thin abdomen, but fight like mad.

beautiful beautiful!!!
When i see this kinda of pictures or the real places, i feel happy and excited too.
Wah if give me, the challenging area u said, also i will go in... but sometimes looks can be deceiving.
Wheather a place got many fs or not can be determined usually within first couple of minutes. If u find a few good looking potential nest but got nothing at all, not even web sticking the 2 leaves, then most probably not good area.
Good places is if u stand there a few minutes, already can see one or 2 heads(big or small) popping out from nest or see a fs walking around, usually around evening when wheather is cooler. And good potential nest usually sure got at least a small fs hiding there.

Msf69, two of his big fs caught at macritchie. That shows why macritchie is so popular and park officers complaint too many ppls went there to catch. You stayed in the west and any good spots there ?
*
I am not surprised can get big fs at parks. Main reason is because in parks the plants are watered daily. FS don't get dried out and lots of water, means they can expand bigger when changing skin. Watered moist soil also provide a rich medium for many types of bugs to trive. Also park plants are well maintained, elinimating overgrowth which may cause other bigger predators to become dominant. So in a way, fs trive in a "balanced" environment... not too clean or sterile until no insects can be found, nor too heavily vegetated until all sorts of other big ants, big spiders, geckos, wasps that can dominate the environment. Besides, the legendary Bighead was also found in a park.

Unfortunately, now the main predator.. fs kakis...become the major factor in decline of big fs in parks. LOL!

Wah good vintage clips u didnt unload. Great fights. I added the 2 fights u requested. Certainly deserving.

Added on May 21, 2009, 12:55 amSee u all catch until so happy, today i also went to scout around. Found a new place and spend about an hour there. I collected 3 adult fat females(one with babies!), 1 juvenile and 2 males. The 2 males medium small only...and just changed skin. 2 also run when see each other! Anyway, i let go my females and 1 juvenile in my porch plants already. They seem happy and make nests there already.(i'll get some pics up when free these couple of days) I've been slowly building up an environment in my porch so fs can live there. There is an ant population and various small bettles and insects among the plants i grow. The reason is because i fertilize my plants with all the kitchen vegetable cuttings i have every day. The male fs i caught in early feb(3th) still happily living there. Wah...he is at least 3 and a half months old now. If can tahan another 10 days, he will be four months old(from last moult). Let's see how long can he live.

wah, so much updates... i will take sometime to go thru...
i see got some excellent fights up...

my male fs caught on 3rd feb still alive! but showing old age signs, slowing down...

Attached Image Attached Image
look at why some fs got "dirty face"...because the white hairs are missing!! due to OLD age! just like human balding...

Attached Image Attached Image
he traveled from his old nest into a new one..
guess wat...he has been staying alone there for many weeks, but once i brought back some females back to put in some nest quite far away from him...he shifted nest on the very next day!! This is proof that male fs can probably "smell" or sense female fs some distance away... like how viper once describe this phenomenon too where wild fs came close to captived fs placed in box outside...
pheromones....

he is approaching 4mths of age after last moult...prob about the maximum age after last moult.

Added on May 30, 2009, 2:53 amAfter watching all the good fights esp Hero/Cage and Yuda's first and 2nd king, i must say that Singapore FS is in NO WAY any inferior to Malaysian FS. Yuda's top 2 kings really have impressive wing span...i think if BigHead a life also may not be able to match. (If Kenz can take a close up of his first king against a one mm grid paper, then can compare head size to BigHead). I'm itching to go find next m'sian kingkongpao.

My FS tat caught about 2 weeks ago already seem converted to partial chop fs, show aggressive fighting style and start attack with chop.
The male FS i caught last time are lousy fighter... see how they fight.. alot different rite?
Most likely the female chop FS converted them.

Heres this evening FS fight.

A rematch fight for OneArm vs 5Legs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIXzhN74P2c...re=channel_page

OneArm is bigger than 5Legs.. actually i have another male FS also converted to partial chop size like 5Legs.. but too bad i lost it when i try to feed. The FS ran out from the case and jump away into leaves.. i try to search but cant find it.

If the FS still available, sure can gives a fair fight to 5Legs coz about same size.

next time u see other groups can make friends with them mah, then can have more challengers. Or u can intro to them to yuda, see if can unseat him!

Sure got other groups, but not interlinked maybe because shy. or maybe they dont join here becuz prefer to communicate more in chinese. Some maybe are gambling groups, because i remember some guy from National Service told me his friend won't fight his fs if no $$ on the table. Hence that's why they keep to their own group.
Anyway, no harm trying to form a network like how Trevally is trying to do. FS kakis not many, more fs more possible interesting matches!

Added on June 7, 2009, 3:09 pmhi mindstorm, viper has slowly picked up the fs hobby back. what abt u ? hehe. awaiting to see u go hunt fs again and post your adventure log.

hehe. Good for viper(and us too of cuz)! I'm a wee bit tight with my time right now. I did went on a search 3 weeks ago. But i only got 2 medium males which were not strong fighters. It's a good spot though. I'll be back there again soon. FS hobby will NEVER leave me, almost everyday i would still check on some of the fs in my plants. Just a bit tight now for me to go full scale adventure. In the meantime, i would still look for new things to discover about fs or their food and environment.

Here is something "new". The fs male i caught in feb 3 is still around! Dammit, i didn't see him after about 26 or 27th May and i thought he is gone for good, maybe died and got carried away by ants. That time i also released 1 of the medium size males. After that he also not seen. 2 days back i found back a one arm male which looks old, i was shocked. But, with no comparison, i was wondering wheather it was the old male or the medium size male i released. Then just now about 10pm, i found the one arm male together with a young female i also released. Couple nest! Dirty old man! haha! I also found back the medium male in another nest. So the one arm male must be the old male, size much bigger than the medium male. 100% guranteed can be no other male because my area got no fs, all new houses with scanty plants constantly under direct sunlight, no big trees and no shrubs. Shit, 4 months and 1 week leow this guy has survived and still can fook(with one arm)!

What can we learn here? We still do not know the maximum age a fs can live after last moult. But one important thing about this male is that i hardly fought it(except when i just caught it and when i tested the 2 new medium males against him, both new males ran while he tried to chop) , so he has not been externally and internally damaged by battles. Maybe that's why he lasted longer.

Sorry no pics cuz my sis just borrowed my camera yesterday for her coming trip to Langkawi.
Tomorrow i'll use my videocam to document this "oldest" fs i ever kept. Hopefully he don't cabut again to another nest before i get the chance.

Yeap, photo today from my videocam, the one arm fs is certainly the fs i caught on feb 3.
Same head pattern as this pic i took when he still had his right arm. I call him oldguy.

I fought him today with the younger medium sized male. Alas, due to his old age he lost to a smaller fitter male, but still a ok 5 second push fight with half chop. The younger male tried to chop him right at the start but bounced off him. Potential chop-to-be. For such an old fs, oldguy move damn fast! Although he no longer walk with jerkiness, he can still jump far and run!

Here's the clip of oldest documented male fs taken today. 4 months 1 week. Previous record 3 and a half months by Bighead.

Oldguy nowadays is a first class wanderer. I didnt find him today in the couple nest i saw him in yesterday. I had to search for half hour before i found him. After videoing him, i left him in a nest. I think think, better keep him in captivity to see how long he can live until. I went out to catch him...eh? Gone again! Getting too dark to search for him. Hope to find him again tomorrow or within next couple of days before he snuff out. But looking at his fitness level, he could probably live on for another week or so... His longevity could be due to his lack of fighting and maybe because he is living in the "wild"?

Remember bro1? His fighting skills peaked and became a chop at almost 3 months after moulting, but succumb to viper's fs in a death match when nearing 3 and a half months. Blurman was a good fs which started fighting well about 1 week after moulting. With all this info, we now roughly know the cycle of a fs fighting skills. After the last moult, ALL male fs start of being a scaredy cat. Maybe last from 1-2 weeks. After that it would slowly peak maybe until 3 months and then go downhill from there on. This info is especially impt for kakis who bet... if they know their age of their fs, then they wouldn't bet on a older than 3 months fs, no matter how good his previous fights were.

Hong Nga Chee(red teeth in Cantonese). - When they show off their fierce stance with their "teeth"(padipalps) hanging down, can clearly see they are reddish in colour especially starting from the base. When i was a kid, i remember catching them countless of times. They are fair fighters. They tend to be small sized but their fighting stamina is incredible... usually unwilling to back off even against larger males and many times winning slightly larger males easily after a couple of chops. Nowadays i didn't find any.

Wow wow wow! New king kongs!

Can't wait to see the 2 min fight! Set to take 3rd place for long fights. And by large fs too. And can't wait for the matches against Yuda's first king!

Very nice pics there. Terminator probably live much of his life in dark shade because fs do turn dark color if kept for long periods in the dark(like in a matchbox). Robocop color and size reminds me of Bighead. If can take pic against 1mm grid paper to compare size.

Anyway, congradulations to ken25! The challenger is here!
