It's not eating the small flies i give it, tomorrow got to find something bigger for it.

QUOTE(viper88 @ Mar 19 2008, 12:13 AM) Not daun sirih? looks like daun sirih 2 me ..this is wat i posted last time. Different leaves la. Wild pepper is on the ground, and soft leaves. Daun sirih i also saw before, but is a creeper and hard leaves.... i havent catch FS in daun sirih before though....Added on March 19, 2008, 7:58 pmFuuyoh...long fight. At the beginning Joe seems like try to jump away and escape. Joe managed to jump over Kelapa Sawit but still forced to fight. Joe and KelapaSawit looks almost same size and both can fight very long. KelapaSawit is more fiercer and stronger, can see most of the time Joe kena lock , lifted up and kena chop. Joe try to ran away after kena lifted but KelapaSawit lock him tight and push hard till Joe's legs twisted. This is a good matching fight. If a bigger fs vs a much smaller FS, the small FS legs or arms sure break off ady kena chop. Bigger FS have stronger arm locks and its chop is more deadly. v_viper88 The fight is long cuz much arm locking... prolongs the time...and Joe wasnt that active in the fight too...just holding on... i think ur spiders long fight more exciting. Bighead mated with 3 females althougher. 1st and 3rd one i think is virgin. 2nd one actually lay eggs before. The first 2 females that mated Bighead laid eggs on the plant i gave it. But when i finally take out the females..the eggs are gone!! Eaten! shit! Really dissapointed. All the time in the container got fruit flies. Seems like FS females easily eat eggs on slight disturbances...
3rd female still pregnant, quite fat now... 1st female is small, no eggs nevermind 2nd female is a huge dissapointment...big and fierce 3rd female, also big, almost like 2nd but dunno fierce or not. 4 challenges to breeding 1. Not mating 2. Female eat eggs 3. Not hatching 4. Growing the lings Because of these challenges, i have set policies to address them one by one. 1. Use a safe way for force/arranged mating... gurantee to select good genes 2. Remove female once lay eggs 3. Still testing.. dunno wheather will hatch or not.... 4. Breed a small type of food for the lings... Here's a clip on arranged mating... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6emncJ23UM Now i am having 4 batches of eggs from various females i caught. None of them are from top fighting males i have. I keep them to try to hatch and grow the lings. The last pics are a batch of eggs which i accidently dropped the container on the floor!! The eggs shifted position...wonder are they damaged or not. See wheather hatch or not... I also noted the 2nd female toke about 28 days after mating before laying eggs...unlike an earlier female...18 days...gestation periods seems to vary...... Yes, those were great fights.
Did u record when u catch all ur spiders? Maybe they're all in their peak now. Great time to fight them. I also like to see fighting than breeding. Afterall, breeding FS is just a means to an end. The end is to have good fighters fighting. Breeding is for the long haul. It takes more effort, a bit more money to get more apparatus, and because this is something not done before.. need to think through wat to do or create, and most importantly is to have lots of patience! Anyway, i like breeding animals/fish since young, so i'm happy if i see my pets reproduce. Wah, u fighting ur FS everyday! Crossfire seems like chop leow...see Xinan, straight chop. Also Hope seem to be eating the sparring partner in the picture! Arm twisted backwards... Which FS did Kaizer chop in the clip? Seems like wiping blood on the planform after the chop... Your FS seems like getting fiercer and fiercer... This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 21 2008, 12:59 AM |

QUOTE(ngkl99 @ Mar 21 2008, 05:55 PM) i want to visit u guys to c ur collections and fight sometime.. could u tell me ur address? how about some FS hunting if possible? what to prepare? many mosquito? i agreed wit ur theory that FS is bigger near water area. did u successfully breed FS? it's very good if u give FS food such as baby FS, that will make them stronger, but don't give female baby FS, that makes them weaker. thats all 4 now. c u later. Yeah, FS hunting would be good, i prefer go 2 or 3 or 4 people...can go more daring places. Also much faster to comb an area. If got a lot of ppl, better to go places like estate...wide area. Things to prepare i wrote in post#17, page 1. Sure many mosquitoes la...FS places. That's why nowadays not many ppl play FS. If want to go together must plan one whole day... r u working? Wat days are ur off days? Breeding FS is tough. Still trying. I think it is well worth it if can find a successful way. Give FS baby as food for adult FS?? Wah, like that also can ah? I definately have seen big FS eat small FS.. cannabalism is normal in the world of spiders/insects. But i never think as to purposely give them as food. And how can you possibly know what sex is a baby FS?? This is certainly new to me! I wonder wat does viper and mangrovejumper think abot this. |

Viper, as your FS fight more, the fights get longer and longer. Seems like all experienced and no longer kecut so easily.
First of all i must say that the white platform u are using now is the best... pls keep using this platform...best video quality by far(esp Nexus and Kaizer). Nexus vs Kaizer was a great fight to watch. I am amazed at the size difference between Nexus and Kaizer...quite a big difference, and Kaizer can fight that long against Nexus! Damn...either Kaizer is damn tough or Nexus is just not fierce enough. Shit, Kaizer fight until kena knocked out!!! Ur FS 1. Fight on tread 2. Get flipped and fight again to win 3. Drag opponent 4. Get knocked out Hope vs Crossfire....again i'm Xonan and Scorpio also a great fight, 10s.. but now against all top fights we have seen so far... really kena overshadowed. But still good fight to watch. Seems like your FS if not injured or knocked out in fight also won't want to stop fighting. To me, these fighting clips are priceless. Here are some mix fights i had today and 4 days back.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DK0-9l7qBn4 Remember Bro1? He's been with me for a long time now...Used to be arch rival of Topman. Topman is still with me...but old already and cannot fight well. Bro2 and Bro1 was caught same place and changed skin same day. But Bro2 died after about a month. I didnt mention it. That time i think maybe it died becuz malnutrition...i was keeping too many FS and i didnt rear flies that time. But i wasnt sure cuz it was not eating well before it died. I was keeping it on a big container with a leaf on the floor of the container. So the dead insects and faeces also on the floor. I think that condition is not healthy for the Bro2 becuz close contact with faeces...maybe cuz him to be sick and died. Now still keeping Bro1, pass 3 months already. After changed skin is about coming 3 months...Bro1 is old man now. 20/12/07 - caught Bro1 26/12/07 - Bro1 changed skin 11/02/07 - caught Kelapasawit I mentioned this before, the 3rd clip is between Bro1 and Kelapasawit where Bro1 won. 16/02/08 - Bro1 vs Kelapasawit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlAXqI5ky1Y Bro1 is slightly bigger in terms of leg span than Kelapasawit. Mangrovejumper did asked me to fight them again. I did but on the 10/03/08! Short fight only...Kelapasawit won. Bro1 didnt fight for a long time...a week or so. Kelapasawit last fight was on 19/03/08, got trashed by Jack again. Today, 23/03/08, i dunno why i thot of fighting them again. Bro1 chop straight! Bro1 become chop already? But Kelapasawit stood ground and bounce Bro1 off. Then KS somehow was good at keeping a distance and counter by bitting arm of Bro1 and not letting go twice(first right then left). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ790On3hX8 This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 24 2008, 02:09 AM |

QUOTE(Mangrovejumper @ Mar 24 2008, 08:52 AM) Looks like you converted your spiders to chop? It is truly the chop era. Any ideas on what you did that converted them? Just fight them only mah. Actually Joe, smallchop and Destroyer are all chops went i caught them. Jack was the first convert but by which spider? No chop before Jack. You saw how it fought like normal spider in the beginning. Then suddenly became chop. Redleaf is another convert. But sometimes i think... are they really converts or izit that their chop behaviour take time to develop. Still have to confirm wheather Bro1 has turned chop. Last but not least is Kelapasawit... it still havent become chop despite fighting numerous times with chops. Also, Bighead never turned chop. |

This was the fight between Kelapasawit and Bro1 on the 10/03/07 where Kelapasawit won. Just short fight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMQf6WHqgk0 Heh, so far no one wondered wat is so special about Bro1 vs kelapasawit. Both are actually non-chops. Well, yesterday's fight between them really blew me away! Before I fought, I thot it will be a short fight where Kelapasawit will trash Bro1. That fight surprised me for 3 reasons. 1. Bro1 chopped straight, and fought like it was still young spider(maybe 3 months from last moult is still young?) 2. I thot Bro1 lost the fight..twice(once after the arm biting incident, second is after getting half-flipped..for a moment i thot kelapasawit was EATING Bro1)...but Bro1 showed terrific last minute counter Last but not least... 3. 97 SECONDS FIGHT!!! You saw the preview. Now here's the full clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqKxdiBDnxo |

QUOTE(Mangrovejumper @ Mar 25 2008, 12:16 AM) Wat do you mean more chop? Starting maybe chop but still know how to back off, later chop and fight until die? Or more chop means more frequency in chopping when fight? Joe is a true classic chop...raised arm and slowly walk towards enemy when it sees another FS. But seems it didnt get to chop much in the fight with Kelapasawit. This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 25 2008, 10:08 PM |

It just surprises me that at throughout most of the time, Kelapasawit was in full control and at one point even tigtening its grip on Bro1...
and then in the next 10 seconds or so, Bro1 bit KS all over and sent KS scrambling for life... Here is a curious morphology of Bro1. The underside of its abdomen is pale in color. This is unlike all the rest of the male FS, which have a black triangle pattern like this pic of Kelapasawit. Wonder wat it means. This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 25 2008, 09:59 PM |

Here's the new metal shelf i bought from Jusco at a discount just for my spiders! Both my wife and sis says that is a nice shelf. I like it because it allows light to pass from one level to the next. My wife says the setup now with the camcord looks like a research room... haha, always been my dream. I used to enjoy working in the lab during my uni days.
The whole shelf is antproof. How? I just stick doublesided tape all round the four legs...no ant gonna want to get its legs stuck on the tape. Been four days now, so far so good...tape still sticky. Another way is to use oil round the legs, maybe encirlce a piece of gauze or tissue around the legs with wire/string and then soak it with singer oil. I caught a very fat female FS, average size, on the day i got Bavia. And it laid eggs after a couple of days...wah, its fecundity was much higher than all the females i have been keeping which laid eggs. Number of eggs is probably close to 30, while the ones i kept was about 10-15. The eggs of the fat female were also of darker yellow. I think maybe i not feeding the other females enough? Here's the pic of the eggs of the fat female. But today Bighead's third wife(and only hope of Bighead's genes to be passed on) laid eggs...whoa... plenty of eggs, more than the fat female just newly caught from wild. Eggs look bigger too! Maybe because i have been purposely feeding it more. I took the female out immediately once i knew it laid eggs. Even on my antproof shelf, I also surround it with water by placing it in another container(together with the other batches). Double protection. Here's Bighead's future... A curious thing is also both these females i purposely put an extra tape on the container where they make nest. This is to let them have a darker place to lay eggs, which they did...i wonder could the light environment affect them in any way regarding laying eggs. Maybe in the brighter more "exposed" environment the other females may eat some of their eggs after laying or during laying. Anyway i kept Bighead's third wife(BHW3) eggs under the shade of the tape. Hopefully the saga of Bighead lives on... Here's the other species of Thiania which i'm still keeping...growing fat now, i remember it was quite thin when i caught it. It looks like medium size male to me. But now growing so fat, i think it is amassing food reserve to change skin... Here it is eating fruitflies, one not enough...must grab 2 at one time... Viper: How's the EXTREMELY BIG female you told me you caught today? Sell me la.... Unless...don't tell me you also want to breed FS!! This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 25 2008, 10:14 PM |

WALAO! EXTREME sial! Very exciting match! But it seems to me Spitfire bite Nexus arm first, then Nexus bite Spitfire arm, and both were holding onto each others arm for that long stall. Then Nexus let go but Spitfire continue to hold on. And Nexus trying to get away which it finally did. I had to watch a few times to get that right. Can clearly see Nexus is darker and bigger than Spitfire. Spitfire really spit fire man.
In the Spitfire vs Shortarm(arm broken at tip?.. also never see before, halfway broken), can see Spitfire is a arm biter. Bite Shortarm arms duwan to let go.. Spitfire is dangerous endurance fighter. Damn. I think your fighters line up is more geng than mine. Actually i thot of fighting ur FS this friday but u not free. I was thinking fight for top spot and also team fight! You line up ur top 5 and i line up my top 5 and see as a whole team who wins! Like badminton team! haha! Here's my lineup..got 13 males altogether. But no big size. I think your Hope is the spider to beat. Average size 1.Jack(chop) 2.Bro1(chop?) 3.Kelapasawit(fierce fighter) 4.Redleaf(chop) 5.Joe(chop) Small average size - cannot really fight, keep for sparring 1.IOI-mm 2.Fairman 3.Brownie Tiny size 1.Smallioi(bigger than Destroyer) 2.Destroyer(smallest chop ever seen) Unranked 1.Bigleaf(Very old..bending arms) 2.smallchop(one arm, lost to Destroyer even though Destroyer smaller) 3.Topman(old, blackhead) This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 25 2008, 11:07 PM |

QUOTE(viper88 @ Mar 26 2008, 04:42 PM) I only saw Nexus trying very hard to attack Spitfire even try to attk from upside down position. Nexus is very fierce tho.. strong chops few times This is one fight where both FS not same size and yet fight very very long, with the smaller spider winning in the end. I timed the fight, about 79 seconds from start of contact to end of contact. The stall time when both FS hanging onto each others arm was almost half a minute! From here we can see that the length of time for a fight depends greatly on 2 factors.and that is the time i saw Nexus bite hard on SpitFire left arm. SpitFire move upwards and backwards try to breakfree but failed. I'm not so sure whether SpitFire oso bite NExus arm earlier. Nexus is at front and blocking the view.. i cant really see if SpitFire able to bite arm earlier. I only saw SpitFire having a hard time and struggling to breakfree but Nexus just keep on bitting. Both FS not moving for quite some time. Later only i saw SpitFire bite on Nexus left arm and manage to breakfree. After the fight over, i only see SpitFire left arm is injured, Nexus more like stun and exhausted. Can check in the video i've recorded. My FS HOPE CROSSFIRE XINAN XONAN SCORPIO SPITFIRE NEXUS KAIZER ShortArm + 4 other male FS for sparring. FS group match fight and also fight for top spot sound interesting. Ur BRO1, KelapaSawit seems improve alot in fighting skill and stamina. Should be able to give good fight for my FS which have the same size. I'll try to swap shift work on fri.. if my colleague says ok, maybe we can meet in the evening for FS fight. Sat - Sun, i'm not working, will try chk with my neighbour whether he is goin back kampung onot.. overnight on sat and come back sunday. Wanna join me to search for FS at my neighbour kampung Kelapa Sawit area? v_viper88 1. Fighting style Basically arm locking style greatly increases the fighting time. We dont expect fights with "open chopping style" like Pippy vs Scareycat or Hope vs Crossfire, to last very long. Too tiring for either FS. 2. Stalling time Usually a result of arm locking, or in the case of Bro1 vs Kelapasawit, hugging and kissing each other. In any fights, stalling is sort of resting in the middle of the fight, at the same time waiting for an action from the opponent before reacting. It is amazing that in the fight Nexus vs Spitfire, right at the beginning of the fight, Nexus gave a strong chop which sent Spitfire backwards and both went upside down. Most FS in Spitfire's place, being smaller, would have fled by now but Spitfire continued to fight a gruelling long match and won. Spitfire is surely a strong fighter. Nexus got lifted by Spitfire and then became upside down...Nexus not very surefooted. Viper: Ok, let me know wheather u free on fri and wat time u free and where? Sat-sun, sorry cannot la. Wish i can but got to work till late nite. Hope u catch super fighter! This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 27 2008, 11:45 AM |

Wah, very nice places u went too. Like the pictures a lot. Pandan leaves always make me think of FS. Seems like u also found wild pepper plants there. And plenty of shade. Very conducive for FS. Eh...looks like people's house backyard.. no one come out to ask u wat u doing ah?
Anyway, sure looks like a lot of FS there. But all the ones u caught cannot fight? If they are big size then worth keeping for a while...maybe most of them still young. Or they are "dai sui pao" like some people say..big spiders but cannot fight. Hard to say. Maybe try training them. F1 vs F2 fight quite ok. But yeah,..looks like a bit slow. In the begining, I thot the left FS(F1?) is chop..walk slowly...but then not chop. They look thin...feed them the fly u catch...then become strong and big like Hope! Anyway here's a clip between Joe and Topman. I tried to rank Topman. Joe was the weakest of the top 5 i have. But looks like Topman got a beating. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yc7O_xezvE Bro1 looks like has turned chop. Now i remember, before the record time match between Bro1 and Kelapa sawit where Bro1 for the first time exhibit chop behaviour, the last fight Bro1 had was with Jack on around 10/03/08! The one where he got trashed gaugau! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jO09UnObWvQ Almost 2 weeks later on the 23/03/08 it fought the long match with kelapasawit. So yeah, looks like chop behaviour did spread to Bro1 after all. Here he is doing it again on Fairman(..for training) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9AsQFW_rZw This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 28 2008, 02:39 AM |

I notice one thing about FS population and their fighting skills. In our developed environment, there are many pockets of shrub area which are quite isolated. If these area is not too small, then FS maybe able to survive and breed there. However because they are isolated, their gene pool is small and siblings may mate each other which will weaken the species. I realized these areas FS not so fierce. Example are areas in PJ(where i got Bigguns, Topman) and some areas in Puchong(where i got Bigleave, Lowland). But where i got Kelapasawit and Bighead, 6leg, Jack, Joe ...they are from a vast area. Maybe it is just like sportsmen... the bigger the country is, the more likely u're able to find world class sportsmen. More people, more selection, more probabilites. It's a numbers game.

QUOTE(hoahmaru56 @ Mar 28 2008, 07:08 AM) nice thread...almost like a science journal. nice nice chops doesn't have different markings but usually they tend to be more matured spiders, so there is a tendency to perceive chops to be darker in color or have a black head(matured spiders are darker). However as u can see Jack is chop but looks normal color and i had one called blackhead which was never a chop. I never play this when i was small...never occured to me nor my town buddy funny...I'm from sarawak. Well, some question like to ask.......or for pondering. did all the chop spider have same physical characteristic?(colour?marking?general size?) area caught? wat about no-chop one? maybe different species different behavior? then maybe from there can see is from gene? I think shud share some physical characteristic if same species will try to catch some FS during holiday as I at unisel LOL. so rural area. Nice thread/ journal: maybe can published as book when find out something more one more Q how does a spider bandar/ spider besi Look like? course the one tat i normally see in my town at sarawak is at home one. which is a jumping spider have hair and don't have long leg, brown fur. always jump to eat prey Jack left, Blackhead right Chop is a behaviourial trait, not a morphological one. So no, they(chops) dont have same physical characteristics which one can say that FS is a chop for sure just by looking at it. Last time, my friend and I tend to believe chops are usually caught in dirty places(lots of mud on the leafs) or they are found out-of-the-way nest. Some believe they dont make nest but just lepak under some leaf or found wandering. I think these perception comes about simply because chops usually are quite rare. So when one is found, there is an instant attachment to the place/situation in was found by the catcher. More or less psychology of the catcher. As for the area as a whole, it is difficult to mark any area as a chop area. And where chops are found, the area dont seem to be different than areas where no chops are found. But i do believe if a chop is found in one area, usually there are more within the same area. no-chop one can be found in any FS conducive area lor... We are talking about the same species of spiders when we refer one as chop. Just that they dont show angry face before fighting but attack straight away. Maybe gene is involved. But we theorize that it is either disease(where a agent is involved) or just a learned behaviour. Hope u catch some and show us some pictures. I still am not sure wat is a spider bandar as this name was never used by me. Unless viper show me a spider bandar life then i will know. Different people tend to use different slang names for jumping spiders in our country. Haha! I think spider besi(also never used by me)=mangrovejumper. I used to call it golden spider cuz of its color. U can see it on the first page of this forum. Best u show us some pics of jumping spider u see. More close up better. Then we can agree on ONE name... Anyway thanks for taking an interest in this forum, hoahmaru56. This post has been edited by mindstorm: Apr 19 2008, 02:19 AM |

Wah, viper..ur FS fights getting more and more brutal. Until death. Mine also
Hope vs Crossfire is very violent. Both also do not want to bow out humbly. If u continue to fight them so often, I think Crossfire is next to go. Better keep them for a few days before fighting. Nexus vs FS4 and Scorpio vs Nexus pretty good matches. Nice manoveuring and chopping. Wah, i see u fight ur FS more and more these few days... while i fight them less and less. Getting ready to meet u mah..hehe. All ur new FS lose to the ones u keep could also mean one thing. Well-fed, well-taken-care-of and trained FS are tougher and fight better than newly wild caught ones! haha! |

New blood!!
No la, not bloody fight. I mean got new spiders la... This is the place i went to. It was on a slope with a drain. Banana trees with long sharp leaves plants. It was raining when i reached the place around 4.30pm. Damn. I slept in my car till almost 5.30pm. The rain wasnt very heavy but will still soak u wet if out long enuf. Anyway i was cursing in my car for my bad luck. I didnt want to drive back cuz i know it is horrendously jam out there. It was also quite dark with all the rain clouds. Anyway by 6 the rain subsided to very light. Aiyah, dont care, just go and find. Wah..i think this must be one of most productive catch. In one hour, found 6 males. Somehow the rain actually made me come to this place because got parking near here. If no rain, i might have stop somewhere else. Here are the 6 males and their nests. 1st Male - DirtyFace(small but look like chop, mature male) 2nd Male - New Arm(One arm shorter than the other, probably broke the arm before change skin, i think cannot fight) 3rd Male - Longman(Biggest one today, same or slightly bigger than Jack...new challenger, but still young) Saw its big shadow through the banana leafs. It was actually sharing a very big nest with ants(to the left of second pic) 4th Male - Quietblue(Blue color, in cantonese we call it Lam pao, and quite tame) 5th Male - Justine(Just changed skin, can see its legs still pale orangy colour, 2nd biggest) By the time i caught Justine, i was out of containers. I was holding a bag with Quietblue in it and Justine in a container without a cap(i dropped it). Then i saw Jumper, trying to mate a female. Aish..one hand only how to catch? Anyway, somehow i caught them and put both male and female in another bag.... 6th Male - Jumper(keep jumping when i tried to take its photo, most matured male) This post has been edited by mindstorm: Mar 29 2008, 02:37 AM |
