anybody can confirm this?

I noticed that as well. Particularly Tomshardware (which I trust) but I'm not sure if the link I posted is still there. Can't confirm yet though. But if the professionals said so, I wouldn't disagree.

A question here.
Wouldn't 3870X2 a better solution than 3870 crossfire?

Not all games support CF but all the games should support 3870X2 even without any patch.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

According to several reviews, 3870X2 has the same problem with CF. Any games that has problem with CF will have problem with 3870X2.

Well, it's no surprise it has the same problems with CF. It is, after all, a dual-GPU solution. If you take a look at the CPU-Z, it says "Crossfire: Enabled". So, I think it's still using the same Crossfire communication between the GPUs.

There's one more advantage for 3870 X2 over CF, you don't need to buy an expensive CF-mobo to use it. Which is a huge plus considering CF-mobo is expensive.

But, I really hope DAAMIT can fix the AA performance hit. Enabling AA really hurts any ATi cards.

* Just for some information, DAAMIT is the new ATI/AMD name.

I have got another question here regarding the hd3870 CF vs hd3870x2...
wouldnt it be better using hd3870 CF as they are using DDR4 while hd3870x2 using DDR3...

so are there any negatives in DDR3 vs DDR4 while both also 1gb? any idea? hmm.gif

well i think if u have a mobo that supports 16x 16x cf then hd3870 cf is the way to go because its memory clockspeed is 2250mhz compared to r680's memory clockspeed of 1800mhz.. icon_idea.gif
on the other hand, if u dont have a cf capable mobo, then u're better off with r680 as it uses internal cf to utilize both rv670 gpu nod.gif

According to some website, that the latest catalyst 8.1 is unoptimised for R680. The performance between R680 and R670 CF is the same.

i think 3870x2 should be better than 3870 CF.. it's running on single slot x16... while CF does dual slot @ x8 rite..

the truth is... 3870x2 really pown the 8800ultra.. price & performance..  it will take both...
*
no the current HD3870 will pawn the HD3870X2

CF on X38 runs full PCIE2.0 16x

also the HD3870X2 depends on the games support for multi gpu..and the current HD3870X2 has a clock limit at 860 and a slower ram..

the benefits is only the 1gb of mem it has.

dont judge the cpuz on crossfire for the HD3870X2..

its not crossfire...
its a multigpu card..

there is a difference.

whats ikan??? oh ikan... explain the probs with the HD3870X2 ati drivers...
hmm is he MIA??

Nah, what I meant is that it's still using the same driver for X2 and CF.. So the performance will be roughly the same..

dude it works differently
if what u say is true
then there shouldnt be a problem with crysis???

but there is... and also a few other games from what i was told...
and all those games has no issue with CF.

in chinese again doh.gif ..but anyways thanks dude for bringing all those reviews here... as for the reviews, again the result is not conclusive vs 8800 ultra... i find it very weird especially when the AA n AF is turned on in NFS:PS will cause a big drop in performance on 3870x2 but not 3870 CF ... driver issue? (i cant read chinese..so i wont noe if they mentioned it there tongue.gif )
