i would totally get corey's guitar man.
nice colour, design, shape and fret accessibility no fretboard binding though and dot inlays are quite boring. don't think it'll be cheap though |

Hi everyone, I play the guitar... but i'm not very good at it. I own a SX les paul..... and the neck broke once adi. Good thing i fixed it.
Planning to buy an ibanez artcore or a gretsch next. Not sure which one. Any advice? |

If you're looking for a semi-hollow, you should test some out first because they feedback VERY easily when put through overdrive/distortion.
I suggest you get a nice fat, warm, tube amp if you're playing the semi-hollows because in my ears, they don't break like how a Solid State Amplifier does. Since you already have a les paul-esque guitar, go for a REAL Les Paul...... An Epiphone Les Paul Custom would be a great starting place. I think BeatSpot in MidValley has a few models there to test. |

Forgive me for being such a noob. but what do you mean by feedback...and what amp you recommend for a hollow body guitar? I dont think i'll be getting any les pauls any time soon.I suggest you get a nice fat, warm, tube amp if you're playing the semi-hollows because in my ears, they don't break like how a Solid State Amplifier does. Semi Hollow body feed back is that "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" sound from your amplifier if you crank it up high enough and you bring your guitar close to the amplifier. Except for a semi-hollow, any where you stand with a heavy distortion/overdrive on..... you'll get that "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" buzz wiht your amplifier, effectively killing all your tone.
A good tube amp would be something like a Marshall JCM2000..... which I incidentally have. Again, unless you have a damn good tube amp, don't bother with a semi-hollow for metal, Punk Rock or anything that relies on alot of Distortion. A semi hollow sounds AMAZING for Jazz and Blues stuff on a clean tone as it has a beautiful warm, clean, acoustic-like tone. There are a few semi-hollows that were built for a bit more distortion...... the 3 examples I can think of are the Tom DeLonge Gibson/Epiphone signature guitar, the Wes Borland signature Yamaha (Costs RM8880.... I just checked it out today), and the BC Rich like I posted up there...... which itself is quite rare. This post has been edited by blacktrix: Jan 21 2008, 12:09 AM |
