Hello, I just got back from Star Archery at Times Square and it kinda invoked my interest to own my very own first bow biggrin.gif
I do sure appreciate it if anyone here could give a guesstimation of the initial cost to own a 'ready-to-shoot' bow and the running cost on this hobby (arrows, maintenance, etc,) ? smile.gif

I didn't do archery for ages, the info I provide are base on my best knowledge and mainly for target archery. If you want to do hunting then I can't help you, because I don't believe killing animals with bow and arrows for fun is the right thing.

You have to know those you did at Star Archery are mainly for recreation purpose only, which is about 10m if not mistaken. The shortest for FITA is 18m which is not very common in Malaysia because we lack of proper indoor archery range. Outdoor range start from 30m, 50m, 70m and 90m.

Archery more expensive mostly are the first cost which means the bow, arrows and with some others accessories. Provided that you didn't damage or missing any arrows (which is highly unlikely for a beginner) your running cost is only the fee you paid to join the archery club.

We have 2 main type of bow which is recurve and compound, recurve beginer set can cost you RM1k to RM2k. Compound will cost you RM2k to RM3k if buying new equipment.

Most people start with recurve because it is cheaper and for your first set of bow I recommend you buy 2nd hand bow. If you still like it after half year then only upgrade to better set.

Where are you from?

I live in Sg Besi old airport. But I'm on my semester break. Studying at UNITEN Muadzam Shah, Pahang. (and we don't have archery club there sigh)

And I do realise it's not exactly archery at Star Archery. Even the way you draw the bow there is not exactly conventional.
I was (semi-active) in archery club back in school so I kinda know the basics, albeit VERY rusty.

I'd love to go for recurve bow as you suggested and would love more if you can guide me where to find them preloved bows biggrin.gif

First step is to join a club, people inside will guide you.
First bow prefer 2nd hand bow, if you didn't give up the hobby after 3-4 months you should start looking for a new bow. Wooden bow is alright for beginner but can't carry on further. If you buy a bow with aluminium riser and accept international fitting limbs then you still can use the riser for maybe 2 more years you just need to upgrade the limbs with better one and heavier poundage.
This website will give you an idea for how much a new bow will cost, this is a UK website. http://alternativess.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cg...347462085831549
If buying from them you need to pay for the shipping usually not that expensive and no import tax for archery equipment.
An aluminium riser for beginner http://alternativess.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cg...241343585831549
A good pair of limbs to start with http://alternativess.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cg...241343585831549
The rest explore yourself.
The hardest thing is to get the right size and poundage of limbs for you which you can try some bow at the club then only decide.
