Hi, I'm thinking of taking a degree in IT at HELP. Anyone here taking the course? How is the quality? And overall, how is HELP's environment and management? Thanks in advance.

I graduated from HELP (IT degree) and I think it sucked BUT since that was quite a while ago, I suggest you check them out first. don't forget to check out others.

FYI I also worked there before and I don't think IT is their strong point. biggrin.gif

goldfries: Was that their internal degree or the 3+0 with Charles Sturt University? Also, how can I tell if their degree has improved by checking them out? I'm clueless sorry. sweat.gif

that was 3+0 with CSU.

aih last time I also blur la. when I was in college, everywhere else offers 3+1. HELP offered 3+0 so I take la. IT course, I like computer stuff. Ok la fine.

After graduate - it was like shit....... compare with programmers from APIIT - you're nothing. compare with designers from LUCT / TOA, you're nothing also. compare to people who take networking course from CISCO / MS - you're nothing too! It was like they teach you a bit of everything but almost nothing deep enough. sad.gif Well, at least it was like that for my major (Multimedia) but as for the rest. like BIS or CS, i think they're better off la.

Lucky for me I wasn't the type that play games all day la. I did my own studies during free time. biggrin.gif That saved my ass really.

Is the A Levels in Help better than Taylors? I know it depends on the individual.. but based on experience, anyone? =)

Hai, I'm teaching there so perhaps can give u some hindsight....the A Level in HELP is different than in Taylors. Taylors A Level is using the Cambridge A Level Syllabus while we are using the Edexcel A Level. From experience, Cambridge Level of examination is more difficult as the thing you learn there is more. That's for Econs I am not much sure of the others. Perhaps you can check up

Oh okay. I dont mean to be rude or anything.. but in terms of applying for universities in UK in the future.. does Cambridge ALevels or Edexcel stand a higher chance? or there's no difference? I'm actually considering Help because I'm tempted with the edexcel system. Haha. and yeah, I'm also worried about the cambridge standard

On comparing the branding of the colleges, I would say Help has the biggest brand, although I don't have first hand impression of the quality of each of them.

Hope this helps.

Hey I'm also planning to do a psychology in HELP! But I dunno which route to take. The ADTP or the normal foundation -> degree route? Both take around the same time. The thing here is credibility...

Heard that Msia slower 20 years in psy than UK, UK slower than US 20 years.

Any advices?

from wat i heard.. things that we study in HELP and overseas are the same.. the only different is the quality of lecturer( more experiences?) and the exposure.. u learn about other country's culture which you cant learn in Msia. IMO, HELP lecturers for psychology are just great. Dr Goh really rocks.. got his lecture in psychology competition that i have participated =)

Quote from the current HELP psychology student " If you have to starve yourself to go abroad, it is not worth " thats wat she said to me

Cheers

HELP IT & HELP Psychology is ok. Other courses truly sux !
The administratives of all department are pretty traditional working trend. Not organized or efficient.
The environment and almost clubs are quite boring. Unless u study psychology

How's the environment in HELP?
How's the surrounding area like (eg. many internet cafes)?
How many in a class?
Are the lecturers good?

The academic results and university partners (none of those low-ranked ones) seem good.
I attended a seminar for excellence by the Psychology lecturer and the Law Olympiad organised by the Law Department. They were pretty interesting and I got a good impression of the college through these events.

I'm thinking of going to HELP for A-Levels. I want to hear first-hand opinions from current and past students.

Just to share, in the latest examination 97% passes, 1 in every 3 obtain straight A's. We absorb most of the best lecturers around KL & Selangor colleges. Don't believe can ask friends in HELP college, that these lecturers are Senior lecturers that came from Taylors, KDU, Inti etc

Anything can ask me, Mr. Lawrence from A-Levels Dept, Econs lecturer (http://econsguide.blogspot.com)

Normally we do advertise the good results in newspaper & that is when it's near the next intake which the January 2009. You can ask your friends about those superb lecturers like Mr. Jahn Cheah (Maths), Mr. Yeap (Chemistry), Mr. Lee (Physics), Ms. Jaslinder (Bio), Mr. Francis (Accounts who produce 16 World Awards from him alone) & many more

You can ask from you friends who are doing A-Levels in HELP. They can tell you the quality of the A-Level lecturers, not to exaggerate. I do not know about the other programs. Not to exaggerate, but results we produce speak for itself.

http://www.help.edu.my/a-levels@help/track_record.php

This should be able to help!

I graduated from Help A-levels few months back and I can say Help A-levels program is pretty good.Studying environment is good looking there is not much of distraction around unless you drive to Bangsar,so its a good place to study.
Tuition fees is approximately 20k or more for 4subjects.Killer fees I would say.

But taking the bus from main block to kdp is sometimes a pain in the arse, that we can't deny.although they did improve on it already but still the its really packed especially if you're taking the 4pm bus!and also the parking can be a problem too sometimes. But every uni they have parking problem so scratch that!
But overall I would say Help's A-levels would be a good choice! thumbup.gif

Current HELP University College student in the Psychology degree.

Well in my opinion, HMC's (Foundation and Diploma) administration really, really sucks, and so does the lecturers (Save for a few). I'm quite happy with the Department of Psychology's administration though. The ADTP (American Degree Transfer Program) or ADP (American Degree Program) is currently undergoing some power shift so what I heard is that there are a lot of office politics going on- not a lot of good lecturers there either except for a few.

nowadays u guys got long bus.. which is good and bad. good in the sense that each bus got more capacity; bad loading/unloading times due to too many ppl

last time a fleet of mini buses oni ar.. 20min wait time at 4pm was the norm.. some of us had to champion a car-driver who dun have class later to bring his car around to provide additional transport smile.gif

About HELP's A-Levels program:
Good generally.

Got Mrs. Teoh for Maths and Further Maths. One of the best lecturer for Maths but sadly she retired already. cry.gif Therefore, I'm lucky to have her to teach me as I'm in one of the last batch that she taught. smile.gif Her notes are comprenhensive. Thickness of the notes, about 10cm thick (could be thicker tongue.gif ). All handwritten. Even bring it to UK for my further studies.

Ms. Ng for Chemistry. Also, a very good lecturer. Manage to boost up my Chemistry score for paper 1 and 2 as I failed the first time I attempt it to 77/90 (which is an A) with her help.

Another fantastic lecturer for Physics is Mr. Ling. Came to class with nothing but attendance list and a marker pen. Wrote the notes on the board without any book or reference at all. Give us questions out of nowhere, the next day, ask for the questions again from us and straight away give the answer.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Ms. Aw and Mr. Phillip for Statistics. Both of them are good lecturer. Also, Mr. Anuar. The only Mechanics lecturer for the entire A-Levels. Poor him but good in teaching.

Last but not least, Mr. Noel. A relative newbie in HELP. Still not very good in lecturing Maths but it is due to inexperience (and coming from Physics background). But very friendly and easy going with the students.

Not quite sure with other lecturers but should be good in general.

About the environment of study:
Expect to get a lot of change of venue frequently. If you are in a small group, expect to be thrown into a classroom that doesn't deserved to be called classroom (more of like a janitor's room) but the good side is less change of venue.

Library isn't a library between 10am - 5pm during weekdays and during exam period. Just too noisy. Virtually, there is no people on Saturdays.

Haha, about the shuttle bus. Very pack during peak hours (aroud 8am and 4pm weekdays). The big bus can cramp up to around 60-70 people inside (those standing are packed like sardines in can)blink.gif. When unloading, I was like WTF, as if there are infinite number of people in the bus.

Think of it as a twinning sorta program.

If HELP's A-levels is so good why isn't anybody talking a lot about it? In fact, I keep hearing about how Taylor's is better. But that's because they advertise a lot right? Why isn't HELP doing the same? I registered in HELP already and now I'm feeling quite insecure about it. =( Can anybody assist me?

Eg, you can tell me the teachers, environment, facilities, etc. I know SFX explained a bunch already but I need more~ Btw, is there any shuttle from BU to HELP?

Signing up for A-levels at HELP next week.
No regrets. smile.gif

Taylors Subang is not for me, I cannot imagine studying at a place which is surrounded by snooker centres, cyber cafes and other entertainments.

Eg, you can tell me the teachers, environment, facilities, etc.  I know SFX explained a bunch already but I need more~ Btw, is there any shuttle from BU to HELP?
*
there is rapid KL from BU to HELP...
U 82....
i think HELP quite focus on their A levels..
coz they juz renovated a block for the A Levels students...
got small libarary..and coming soon computer labs...in the Block itself...

HELP have lots of different blocks...
so facilities are separated..
main library in Wisma HELP, small library at BLock E
main computers lab in Mainblock , some in Wisma HELP, block A and coming soon Block E...
Got Department of students affair...where students get to hang out...got TV, pool, fusbal, and others...

Signing up for A-levels at HELP next week.
No regrets. smile.gif

Taylors Subang is not for me, I cannot imagine studying at a place which is surrounded by snooker centres, cyber cafes and other entertainments.

there was 1 guy from my class transferred from Taylors to HELP, he failed alot in Taylors -.-" thats y come to HELP. According to wat he said, there are really alot of distractions there. Not a good environment. Anyway, it still depends on student him/herself isn't it ?

okay that's not so bad. i'm quite lonely next year. all my friends are ditching me and going to Taylor's. =(

2009's a-levels fees is RM25k for one-shot payment (4 subjects), and RM26k if you choose to pay by instalment.

Depends on what subjects you take. If you are taking sciences, it will be more expensive.
And there is a RM1550 registration+admin fee and LAN subjects payments to be made.

The total will come to about 30k+

Your papers will be sent to the UK to be examined by UOL examiners so its pretty tough, but the degree awarded to you is given by them. Yea you can complete it in the UK by transferring after your first year

@xavier, I wouldn't say that the Psychology program is amazing (that's a bit too strong) but it seems on par with Sunway in terms of popularity, from the student point of view. It's best if you speak with the counselors or students from that department. Psychology has been wildly advertised the past few years which is why we have seen so many students going into this field. You need to think about your interest and strengths in the areas of study before deciding.

The accounting program is one of the most popular programs at HELP. The lecturers are pretty good too.

You are not qualified to comment so if you have not been studying in every university in Malaysia.
Failing to get TER 85 but give a bad comment to all the universities in Malaysia.

sux i mean that is not reli gud, because overseas university is much better, i dun even care if i graduate from msia or anything, at least i should be grateful with my life now, getting a degree from msia, working and earning... why dun u try to study ausmat and let me know then... its a hard course and complicated the way of counting...

im not here to argue with you, but im here just to know about the university environment, like masterskill, is not a good university, degree is gud, just that the payment, the ptptn and etc.... till there is a riot last year, that is why i say study in msia a bit complicated, at least u have money to study just to get the degree get it?

I do not mean to argue with you but disagree with your opinion.
Okay?

Not all the universities abroad are better than the universities here.
Can't comment so on all the universities, if any university leave a bad image to you, please state it, don't comment on other universities as a whole.

You are contradicting.
You said all the universities in Malaysia are sux but you are here to know about the environment of the university?
Please don't use the word ALL before you have confirmed on it.

Use money just to get the degree?
Can't really understand but maybe that's your point of view, but not all of us have the same mind as you.

Okay, not to argue, just express my view here. Thanks biggrin.gif

HEY THERE, AUSMAT IS EASY FOR U, I TINK SINCE U SAY SO....

BUT IF U ARE NOT CONSISTENT WITH AUSMAT, U CANNOT SCORE,

I BEEN THROUGH IT ALREADY...

ITS ABOUT YOUR RANKING IN UR CLASS, THEN UR RANKING IN THE WHOLE WORLD, IF U SCORE HIGH IN UR CLASS, AND IF UR FREN SCORE THE LOWEST IN UR CLASS, THERE WOULD BE A BIG GAP, THEN, LET SAY U GET 95, THE LOWEST IS 50, THEN U MIGHT GET 85 AT LAST OR LOWER THAN THAT, JUST LIKE MERAMPAS RAMPAS THE MARKS LIKE TAT....THEN LATER IT WOULD BE MODERATE AGAIN AND AGAIN BY THE AUSTRALIAN BOARD... IF U IN THE TOUGH CLASS, LIKE ME, ALL MY FRENS IS SPONSORED STUDENTS, JPA, MARA, PETRONAS, FELDA, ONLY 21 OF US....WE NEED TO COMPETE EACH OTHER, IM JUST AN AVERAGE STUDENTS, SO MY RESULTS BECAUSE LESS THAN 85 AFTER I COMPLETED THIS COURSE, MY ADVICE FOR U SINCE U 17 YEARS OLD, TAKE AUSMAT IF U RELI CONSISTENT WITH UR WORKS, BUT I WOULD ADVICE TO TAKE ADFP OR A LEVEL,

ADFP IS THE EASIEST, TRUST ME... IM FROM INTEC UITM

GOT CHANCE MASUK MATRIKS OR IPTA, GO FOR IT, IM REGRETTING NOW U KNW... U HURT ME PULA SAY ME LIDAT, HEHE..BE FRENS LOR, ADD ME AT FACEBOOK, I ADD U LIAO....

IF U HAVE MONEY, USE IT TO STUDY WISELY LOR, I KESIAN SEE OTHERS STUDENTS, LIKE MASTERSKILL, THEY GOT PTPTN LOR, BUT AFTER THE DUIT KENA DEDUCT, THEY SURVIVE LESS THAN RM100 A MONTH, WITHOUT POCKET MONEY FROM PARENTS, HOW U WOULD SURVIVE?

I JUST ANGRY WITH SOME UNIVERSITIES MANAGEMENT LIKE MONASH SUNWAY... HAIZ... DUN WANNA TALK BOUT IT HERE LAR... I JUST DUN WANNA BOTHER MY PARENTS AND EDUCATION, I WILL FIND MY MONEY MYSELF TO STUDY LOR... THATS THE WAY I STUDY...

BUT I DUN WANNA ARGUE, LETS BE FRENS OKIE, SO APPROVE ME LOR...

BY THE WAY, AUSMAT AND SAM IS SIMILAR LAR, JUST THE DIFFERENT BOARD HANDLE IN AUSTRALIA, LIKE AUSMAT, HANDLE BY THE SSABSA BOARD MA... U TIZ... TAHU TAHU JE...

LOLZ....

Isn't that MARA scholar does not need a good command of English ?

Regarding my seniors who took Sam, Ausmat and A-level, the syllabus for Ausmat is the easiest.
So sorry to know that you failed to fly to Australia,
but you applied for Biotechnology, why do you change your mind now?
Both accountancy and psychology have bright prospect but certainly in Malaysia accountancy field would be more crowded.
At the beginning level, both the fields can't earn much. Interest should be the first reason you considered.
You may apply for Biotech in other colleges.
But seems all the universities here are having a low quality in your mind,
you might take A-level or Form6, work harder then get MARA scholarships again. biggrin.gif

If you angry with Monash, please go to Monash thread and leave your comment there, don't comment on other Universities as a whole, thanks smile.gif
If you don't want to burden your parents, you can take form6 then proceed to IPTA.

I will approve the request. smile.gif

Edit : Found it on web, most of the people rank Ausmat higher than Sam.
While there are people who disagree with it.
Well, I do not know the reason.

regarding mara scholar thingy, yup, mara only want the scholars to score 5.5 and above for ielts.... i score higher than that, hehe...

hmmm, jpa required TER 80 to fly whereas MARA need TER85 to fly... Seems like Mara is more strict...

Hey, i wasted 2 years already, you want me to waste another 2 years, i need to get married before 30 years old okie !!!

haha

well, as u can see, ausmat, if u not consistent in the beginning like me, u sure end up like me, i struggle so hard the last 2 months and im regretting it now... well, take ADFP, i can assure u, u can fly because the paper will not be mark by the overseas lecturers unlike ausmat...

a level, they have their own branch, like in kl, for students going to india, ireland and etc, but then, the examiners are local, so local help local... that's the way government work....

hey, stpm is very hard okie... u know that?

i apply biotechnology because i will be sponsored by Mara, and 80% because of economy and 20 % rela hati ma...

hmmm, after knowing how hard Ausmat was from my seniors at Intec, all of us really scare and some of us even quit ausmat from Intec... u know where is the place is??

hmmm, actually i want to become a steward, i want to work in the airlines industry, but then, my dad say NO because all the airlines now already have contract, like MAS, a person bond for 5 years, after that, the person need to find ways what to do with the future ma, and Emirates 3 years.... working as a steward is cool what, u can travel around the world... that is my true ambition...should i proceed?

i have the offer from Swinburne Kuching for Accounting now, but then, there is a problem, Mara need time to approve my study loan and my intake is on March, 25th Feb i need to be in Kuching but then mara only say TUNGGU, i hate how government works, whereas my friends so happy in australia and new zealands and i don't care about it....

Monash Sunway managements sucks !!! this i can tell u!!!

i want to apply Bachelor of Physiotherapy at Masterskills but after reading Masterskill and Mahsa thread, i scare to study there, and right now I am applying Bachelor Of Optometry at TWINTECH and waiting for the offer... i dont have accounting background and i afraid im gonna screw myself...

u are form 5 now?

im confused now !!! arghhh!!!

take k

Think clearly, don't make your future worse.
I have finished my Form5 and clear with my goal biggrin.gif

It's true that the career prospect for psychology would be wide. I'm currently doing psychology in HELP and I still think so too. However, don't get too encouraged by this factor that you overlook your true potential in other fields. In the end, studying a course that you like is better than studyng a course that you totally hate it.

I'd say carpe diem, but it's ulitmately up to your interest. smile.gif

dear khaishint,

all i can say that u are still young and need to be exposed more....

not all form 6 will go to ipta, will guarantee... nope, wrong, mostly apply ipts also, all the bumiputras will be the 1st going to ipta....

going to ipta not necessary u must do ur form six, well, u after form 5, u can apply kemasukan ipta spm dan setaraf, do u know that? ur school got inform you that?

after a person completed form 6, need to see results again, results not good, hard to gurantee a place at ipta with the course that you like, first, they will allocate a place for the students who finished the foundation under ipta, then reserve a place for matriks students, and form six will be the last.... u should know how this system works, and should ask more from ur seniors... and do ur own research...

form six is very hard to get gud results, top 5 in the world most tough examination !!!!

all my frens don't like form six, it is totally hard, the are clever, deserve jpa and mara compared to me, but this is life wat...

STPM is the 2nd hardest exam in the world.
I know STPM doesn't mean to enter IPTA solely.
I suggest you so because you want to save money,
so you may go to IPTA =.=

Any field that requires human interaction...You can work with people of all ages, from a baby to a granny.

However, with a degree in psychology wont get you anywhere unless you choose to master in one of the many psychology fields. So, working in hospitals would require at least a Masters or a Ph.D...and yes, our hospitals need psychologist from my previous experience during internship with one of the Government hospitals. Let me just say they lack the basic understanding when treating psychotic patients.

BPsych (Bach. Psychology) do have subjects that may interest you, and some that don't. Biopsych is a core subject, unfortunately for me as I didn't take Bio during SPM. wink.gif

Education one of those things that you have to invest in to see your returns. I wouldn't encourage anyone to go into IPTA not only because of its poor Uni structure (i.e from lecturers to admin), but also due to the fact that employers are judging one's qualification based on several aspects that a normal IPTA student would lose out.

i) English proficiency level (oral & written) - no prize guessing the better student
ii) Critical thinking - debatable, however I'm siding IPTS and overseas graduates.
iii) Willingness to express ideas - equal, depends on personal attributes
iv) Overall qualification - No doubt, overseas graduate > IPTS > IPTA

All above are based on what many employers are looking. But as you notice, most of the aspects are highly depending on individuals. Not generalizing, but merely stating the differences. biggrin.gif

hey i'm going to enrol into HELP's Bachelor of Accounting and Finance soon. There's credit transfer to University of Queensland and university of the west england, bristol. according to the education consultant, the year to decide whether i'm taking 2+1/3+0 is in Year 2. Is that true? (coz i dunno how far i can trust the consultant)so is there anyone here currently taking up these course?

Well, first year is usually the year where everyone will be studying the same thing.. general for all.. so it's during year 2 that u've gotta decide not only whether u wanna do 2+1/3+0, but also ur major and minor (if ur gonna take a minor)..

Best if u inquire directly from the Business Department.. if I'm not mistaken, it's still at KPD Block A..

Both the twinning universities are not good. Uni of West England is ranked 65th in the UK as a whole and 37th for the subject. Uni of Staffordshire is 67th in the UK as a whole and 73rd for the subject.

Uni of West England is slightly better but both of them are bad. I'm from Disted and they seem proud of the Staffordshire twinning.

Hey guys, got a question about the bus transport..

I have a break between 10am - 12pm tomorrow (but class usually finishes abit earlier, around 9:30).

Do you guys think I have time to take a bus (which bus do I take and where do I wait? I always see the blue/grey bus stopping outside KPD, is it that?) to bangsar shopping complex and maybe have brunch there and then take the bus back?

Just wondering how dependable the bus is sweat.gif

If you are planning to do twinning in HELP i would suggest you go for the 1+2 University of Melbourne.. I guess Uni Melb is more prestigious than the likes of West England or Uni of Staffordshire........

Haha that's RM10k increase in just one year.

Now think carefully of enrolling in prestigious schools like UniMelb for courses like Mass Comms and Arts subjects. It'll cost you nearly half a million.

Will you be able to earn a 5-digit salary to refund your loans after you've graduated?
unlikely in Malaysia where you have to compete directly with local grads who some of them are willing to go for less than RM2k monthly salary.

Well personally I think the teachers are great tongue.gif Not sure about comparison between HELP/UCSI though..

After my A-Levels hopefully I will be able to study in UK if I get an offer for Medicine smile.gif So far it doesn't seem too hard, the first two modules of Maths are almost all Add Maths stuff tongue.gif My other subjects - Chem, Bio and Physics are okay too I suppose smile.gif Don't know if it's easier than STPM but to me I think the way exams are carried out it should be better since we have our exams every 6 months or so. Once we sit for an exam we no longer have to revise those topics (unless of course you want to resit for that paper).

The duration of the entire A-Levels is about 18 months if you go for January/July intake. I guess if you start here in July then you will finish some time at the end of 2010/early 2011.

Just so you know, you also get a partial scholarship for A-Levels based on your SPM results smile.gif (Min. 7 A1 excluding 1119/EST). If you have a sibling that went to HELP before you also get a 10% discount.

I'm not too sure about scholarships for uni though.. maybe someone else knows blush.gif

Your degree is recognised overseas by certain universities. I know we have twinning programs with more than a few universities in Australia and UK especially, less in the US but still possible.

You can always go to Wisma HELP, level 8, Psychology department and consult the people there such as Linda, Jo or Jue Ying. I think it's even better if you already have an overseas university that you have in mind so they can confirm straight whether furthering your studies there after the HELP's programme is possible or not.

Nope, I started in Jan tongue.gif

I think you only need to sit for the english tests when applying for Uni.

I have classes everyday, each class is about 2 hours long but usually our lecturers give us a break before/after the lesson so about 1 and a half hours on average smile.gif

Currently my time table if you're curious (for 4 subjects) is like this:-

Monday 8-10, 12-4
Tuesday 8-10, 12-2
Wednesday 12-4
Thursday 8-2
Friday 8-12

During our long breaks we usually hang out at one of the restaurants or if we have tests coming up we go to the library to study tongue.gif

However, the compulsory LAN subjects that you have to do (Moral studies and malaysian studies) take quite alot of your time - once a week for each subject, 4pm to 7pm. I suggest you take both of the subjects during your first semester because that's when your subjects are still relatively easy smile.gif Make sure you pass or they'll make you resit next semester tongue.gif

Sign up for your LAN subjects early too, because the spots are limited.

Yes, Edexcel A-Levels are recognised world-wide biggrin.gif

Your degree is recognised overseas by certain universities. I know we have twinning programs with more than a few universities in Australia and UK especially, less in the US but still possible.

You can always go to Wisma HELP, level 8, Psychology department and consult the people there such as Linda, Jo or Jue Ying. I think it's even better if you already have an overseas university that you have in mind so they can confirm straight whether furthering your studies there after the HELP's programme is possible or not.

thank you for your answers.

actually, i went over to HELP's general advisor but he did not help much.
Why did HELP set up such position when these people only know a little bit of everything?
We didn't go all the way there to get to know a little bit of something. doh.gif

Yes, I can't really blame them totally, as they do not have in depth knowledge regarding many things since there are far too many courses to cover.

I know there are many universities that are not listed as a partner with the BPsych programme, but nonetheless accepts it or is willing with some conditions attached. This is why you are better off approaching the Department of Psychology personally, as they will be able to e-mail/contact those responsible in the university you wish to transfer to and hammer out a deal or something.

Thank you for your answers.
Will go over one day to Department of Psychology.
Can I know the way to the Psychology Department if I am from the Main Block where the general advisors are?
By the way, nice knowing you.
Can you pm me your email so that we can keep in contact?
You are a great help!
Thanks!

Yes, to be honest, it doesnt really matter if you do a levels at taylors or help. but i would recommend HELP, especially since you are thinking of doing further maths, as edexcel is easier than cambridge board which taylors does, but both are recognised equally.

Alot of people in HELP who did a levels did 3 sciences and maths. Thats a very typical combo. Alot do physics, chem, maths, further maths etc..

@gomes. and Leto

thx for ur replies.

izit possible to do 5 subjs? pure science + further maths. the reason im considering this because i'm still pretty unsure about my career path (whether medicine or engineering) but im afraid i might miss out alot in engineering if i hadnt done further maths in alvls. furthermore i like maths alot

^ You could die trying.

They have a 2 weeks trial period where you can go class-hopping. But I don't think you get to see much from F. Maths classes since we only start Further Pure Maths in Semester 2.

Certain unis do not require A-levels Biology as a compulsory subject for Medicine. And even if you decide to do Engineering without F. Maths, you would still be able to catch up easily. smile.gif

Agree with cherried.. Further Maths is not an easy subject, especially with 4 other subjects :/

If you're still not sure, then yes I would suggest you to drop Bio as not all Unis require it for Medicine.

It is possible, someone i knew (not my intake, few years ago, maybe now they change rules), got his parents to write a note to the head of the department of a levels (dunno which college you are in) and he got to take 5 subjects.

You dont need further maths for medicine (all the people i know who are going for medicine/doing medicine -- majority didnt do further maths)

You shouldnt drop biology, you need a minimum of AS biology to apply to UK for medicine at most universities, but most students would have chem, bio and maths when they apply. You dont need physics for medicine either, but since you want to keep your options about engineering open, you should just do 3 sciences and maths. Thats my advice.

Unless you are really smart, you shouldnt do 5 subjects including futher maths, the amount you need to study is too much time. Further maths gets really tough after around halfway through your a level course.

you dont need further maths for engineering, its not compuslory.

Compulsory for medicine: Maths, Chemistry, Biology (at least AS, but everyone has A2 bio)
Compulsory for engineering: Maths, Physics. (Chemistry if you want to do chem eng)

Most do, and most students (99%) of them would have biology a level. sweat.gif I know a senior who didnt take Bio, but instead took physics, chem, maths and econs. Then she needed to drop econs and take up biology or something.

1. i bet the library now is bigger.. well if u compare with Sunway of course is small.. but 1 thing is the books are limited and old.. i always go to Sunway college library to study and borrow books from there..

2. shuttle bus cant do anything.. wait till the new campus is open.. rclxm9.gif

3. parking every college also got this problem.. in taylors and inti where u gonna park? road side? get summon.. is consider gud pay RM3 per day.. taylor , inti, sunway always full and u got the risk of getting summon.. RM30 per day? pay ticket how much? haha..

Hey I am thinking of continuing my studies in HELP for Bachelor of Communication majoring in Marketing Communication...
Any comment on that for those who studies in HELP or this particular course...
And what about the hostel there??..anyone staying at their hostel??..
How's their security and most of them are Malaysian or foreigner??..

My cousin is from Canada and he is also thinking of continuing his studies in HELP for Business Administrative...
Is HELP better in this course or Sunway is better??...
Hmmm...btw does he have to take the LAN subjects??..
He has no basic at all in BM...
He actually went to HELP to ask but they don't seem to give him any reply whether he still has to take foundation of straight to degree...

Anyone can answer my questions??...Thankz in advance..

Hello all. Im going to join HELP BPsych this month (hopefully), and I have some questions regarding lifestyle, accommodation etc. Please help me. biggrin.gif

- First and foremost, where is the nearest surau/mosque?

- Which building(s) does BPsych students inhabit?

- How big are the libraries, and are they adequately stocked with Psych books and English novels? laugh.gif

- Since HELP UC doesnt have its own hostel, students are supposed to rent the house nearby, right? How much is the rent, and does HELP UC assist students in securing the room?

- The education counselor (I think) suggested that I stay at home and take public transport to campus daily, since I live in Selangor. In that case, Im planning to take LRT to Bangsar and board rapidkl u82. Any comment on that route, in terms of expenses, time wasted waiting for the buses, crowd-factor etc... tongue.gif

- What is the typical class timetable for 1st year BPsych students? Need to plan my travel schedule.

- Any warnings / suggestions / reminders for this Psycho-to-be?

That's all so far. Please and thank you~

You do not need F. Maths for engineering but if you have the knowledge, it will definitely help you if you're going for engineering ... F. Maths will screw your grades if you're not good in Maths and if you don't work hard enough

ya,overall,in term of level of education, lecturers, top ranking oversea partner uni, reasonable fees,HELP is considered the best....except the diploma courses, i think, the way HELP manages diploma in business has made HELP's diploma in business qualified to become the worst diploma course among all the well-known private uni/coll...
and, one more thing, the facilities and the current campus do not really statify the student needs..
but the new campus will make HELP becomes perfect i guess.... icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

-i think i hv already answered u about the location of surau via PM.
-about which building does BPs students inhabit??kpd block E, if not mistaken.
-library, is definitely not big enuf for the large numbers of HELP students.
hm,whether books are adequately stocked,i am not sure,i never experienced this b4.

-who told u that HELP doesnt hv its own hostel? they new hostel is juz located opposite the main block....
yes,i think u shud stay at home, wat for to waste money to rent a room?

-which stupid counselor that gaves u wrong information?
if u plan to take LRT to bangsar, the bus to take is T634,not u82; T634,from BANGSAR LRT to HELP/pusat bandar damansara. RM 1 per day. but the latest news is, price will raise on 1/9/2009, and no longer RM1 per day, it will be RM1 per jouney.
don worry about the time wasted for the busses, it will be quite ok.
but, it will be super JAM during the peak time and the bus is FULL.

-i hv no idea wif ur timetable...

-warnings?
i am not a psychology student, so i don noe anything about the course.
but as a HELP student, what i want to warn u is:
you might feel bored, bcoz of the boring campus life, so don give so much of high expectations towards the campus life b4 u go. take it easy. everything will be fine.

gd luck. smile.gif

Diploma students juz like 2nd class students in HELP.
more than 70% of my frens left HELP's diploma and changed to another college.
don come...trust me...if u wanna come, may GOD bless u.
so many colleges offer diploma programme, KDU,INTI.

You might get a scholarship offer based on your forecast. but at the end of the day, they still require your spm results to confirm the scholarship.

Im not sure what is the specific requirements, just check with the counsellors again, I cant remember haha! Its not really a problem though.. any "average" student would be able to get to do the 3 sciences and maths. its not that tough to get accepted.

Yes actual SPM forecasts, but they do allocate scholarships on forecast results if im not mistaken.

The best is to go to HELP main block and just ask the counsellors all the questions. smile.gif

I am only in HELP for the Edexcel A-Levels and the lecturers.

Other than that, it's pretty much crap if you are looking at facilities, parking etc.
It depends on the individual though, some don't find it a problem taking the shuttle bus to and fro daily.

@nike90>>> I think I thanked you already by PM, bt juz wanna to say here again, in public.

THANKS, SEMPAI. thumbup.gif Someone should really make a student guide in understanding HELP's confusing facilities. One more question; when the new campus are open, will the Damansara one still be in use or will everyone be shipped away?

minshuen, jz contact HELP University College directly for more information.

Roughly estimate it at RM20K per year (not including resource fees and etc), but I'm not sure if the tuition fee has increased.

Generally yes, but I heard certain country have extra requirements if you want your degree to be recognized by their Psychology Society/Foundation etc. Your friend can call up the course adviser to ask about this.

It seem that HELP is a popular choice when it comes to studying psychology in Malaysia. Can any HELP psychology students share some of your experience?

How are the lecturers? Generally nice or nasty? Can they communicate well with the students? Well prepared for the whole semester with everything planned out? Do they welcome you when you see them after classes and are they willing to take questions beyond the syllabus?

How is the syllabus generally? Is it well planned? Does it flow well from one sem to the next? Does it feel lacking at time?

Is their career exposure programs sufficient? What exactly do they do for you? Do you see a clear career path after you graduate?

>>mumeichan>> I''ve been there for only 2 months, so I don't think my thoughts count much. But I really love all of the lecturers I met so far. They really know their stuff, even the graduate tutors are superb! You might want to ask the more senior BPsych student in LYN. Bombard their inboxes with all the burning questions you have. Thats what I did prior to joining HELP. icon_rolleyes.gif

The lecturers are very friendly, they love to hear your opinion on (almost) everything. You can even meet them in their office to talk about your particular interest in Psychology, or just simply to chat. I havent done that yet, but I would love to discuss Eating Disorders with Dr Hera. That topic is her PhD specialty, btw. biggrin.gif

its really best to ask the universities that you plan to do your masters in, if they accept HELP's degree.

I will be sitting for SPM this year. Plan to do A levels, HELP or Taylors Hartamas will be my choice. Prefer HELP because of LONDON board, preferably doing art subjects like economics, math, account, or maybe physics. How is the lecturer there? How about facilities and environment? Is the college happening? How many students per intake? What about extra curricular activities, active?

Gotta agree with gomes. If you are lucky to get the good lecturers in Taylor's, an A is sure to get. I've got alot of bad experience with the chemistry lecturers in taylor's. Doesn't seem like they have enough decent ones. They have top notch biology lecturers though, no quality is compromised in this aspect. The mathematics lecturers are equally well. It depends on the subjects actually if you ask me, what are you keen on?
*
For science subjects you can still study on your own for Chemistry and Biology if you get lousy lecturer. But the same can not be said of Mathematics and Physic. You die if you don't get good lecturer on those.

*raise hand* I do.

From Bangsar LRT, the bus will stop in front of KPD. Need to walk a little to go to Wisma HELP from there. The bus will also stop in front of Watson / 7-Eleven at Pusat Bandar, so you'd have to walk a little to reach HUC's Main Block.

you wont regret taking the london board, i prefer it to the cambridge board.

its like taylors and any other college, there are good and not so good lecturers, but its not like they are totally rubbish.

facilities and environment will lose to taylors subang. but does it really matter if you have a nicer computer in the library or nicer chairs or newer building? the facilities and environment is decent though, and not rubbish like what some people make it out to be.

students, around 500+ for january intake if im not mistaken, march and july is slightly less, about 150-300ish.

yes, got alot of sports activities and non sport activities (photography etc.).

Long sem, around 13-14 weeks
short sem, around 6-7 weeks.

Year 1 semesters are different from year 2 and year 3 semesters.

first year
jan - april
may - september
october - december (short sem)

2nd and 3rd year
December - Jan/Feb
Jan/Feb - May/June
July - November

you get roughly a month break in between semesters, quite a popular course and alot of people take it

Its very successful, very popular and a few hundred people in the intake. Students get into the top unis like oxford, lse, cambridge, imperial, ucl etc.

erm, depends, some classes can be around 20, some around 10. it all depends on your subject combos, but in general its a good ratio and there isnt any problems.

not sure, but its a very high passing rate. but it doesnt really matter, its up to you if you study. dont need to compare to how other people do smile.gif

Hi, I'm a student currently studying A-Levels in HELP University College. Any questions? I don't mind answering them.
*
How about the university placement department?
Do they provide enough help and information for university application?
I am interested to go to US after a levels.
How is the break / holiday for A levels January intake?

What are A levels like?

The edexcel exams that are once every 2 months, let's say they test you on chapter 1 and 2 on the first exam, the second exam they don't carry on with chapter 1 and 2, right? It's straight away 3 and 4?

><

How is the workload?

on average how many hours per subject a day?
6 hours per subject per week = 2 hours per day for three days?

Yes they do provide alot of info, talks and guidance to apply to universities (UK, Aus, USA, elsewhere like hk, india etc.)

If you have an intake in jan, your first major break/holiday will be around june, after you exams. but i think in between around march or something you have a break. i cant remember.

and no one follows the workload pattern tongue.gif seriously, just go at your own pace, but the workload isnt that bad, especially in the first term. 2nd and 3rd sem you might find the workload a bit tougher, but thats normal.

If you join in january 2010 intake, your first exam is in may/june, second exam is january 2011, 3rd and final exam is in may/june 2011.

yes thats how its like, they test you on chapter 1 and 2 in this exam, and the next exam is only on chapter 3 and 4 etc.. but you WILL need the foundations of the previous chapters/exams to do well in the next exams/chapters, although questions directly from previous chapters usually are not asked in the exam. but you shouldnt just throw it out of your head after that exam

HELP A Levels good or not compared to Taylor's?

one thing, it's definitely cheaper than Taylors (33k) whereas HELP is just 25k (used to be 20k the last time my bro studied at help cry.gif ).

Actually, A levels in most private colleges are good, most of it is just self studying and from my brother's (A-levels 07-08) experience and my observations after going to the open day on the 13th december, the lecturers are quite dedicated and very helpful.

depends. if you like pass the coursework/mid term exam or something like that u can just retake the paper. if you fail the final exam then u need retake the whole subject.

both around the same, most private colleges (help, taylors, MCKL etc.) are all good. taylors might be more popular, but in terms of it being ''good', its about the same

*
the depth of the syllabus is the same. but if unis are given a chance to choose between 2 students, one with cambridge and one with london, but both hve the same result, most highly ranked uni will choose the cambridge one.

cos in london a-levels u can retake a single paper for a subject, which makes it easier to score.

for example: u get A for paper 1, B for paper 2 (which contributes the most mark), A for paper 3. then your OVERALL is a B for lets say bio.

in both london n cambridge u can resit but the diff is, in cam if u wanna resit u'll have to sit for all 3 papers (paper 1-3) again.

in london lets say ur paper 2 brought ur overall marks down, u can resit for only paper 2 alone.

that's what the head of A-level of my College told me.

but he said though, he assumes that if the london student nvr resit any paper, he/she can be as good as the cambridge one

Added on December 26, 2009, 2:51 pmbut london a-level is always disadvantaged when compared to cambrdge one, somehow it will, little bit

the normal course is 1 1/2 years but the the march intake will graduate the same time with the january intake (meaning that in june the following year, both batches will graduate at the same time) So March intake students are at a disadvantage here as they have less time to cover the syllabus.

there's also the fast lane (1 year A-Levels course, only available for january intake) with some limitations, I can't remember much more of the details sad.gif

there are no best lecturers, just depends on personal preferences. Some people might think that this teacher is good and the other might think vice versa. I think HELP teachers are quite good and dedicated too biggrin.gif

Hope to get few questions answered here.

1.) My friend is going for the March intake, and I registered for the January. Will he/she be studying at the same class with me? Will we graduate at the same time?(We are both taking the same thing--foundation in Arts)

2.) My friend has financial difficulties, is the PTPTN loan enough to cover his foundation in Arts fees? He/she is worried about that.

3.) Is Diploma or foundation better?
---- My friend wants/desire to take Hospitality and Tourism but not 100% sure. Everyone urged him to go for Diploma but I think that foundation is better since young minds tend to be impressionable. I'm afraid he'll regret(who knows he might dislike the course---> wasted money on Diploma) Even I changed my mind about 4 times, therefore I think foundation is better. The only advantage I know for studying Diploma is that money is saved. (+ a more specific study into a particular subject)

4.) I've heard that foundation certs are useless OUTSIDE the college you enrolled into. Is this true?
Lets say, if I finished my foundation in HELP, will I be able to take my degree at other college?

Thank you.

Hi Bry4nGaGa92,
I m going to foundation in arts too for Jan intake.

If i m not mistaken ptptn doesn't give loan for foundation.
And for arts course, ptptn only give 5000 per year.

If your friend has financial difficulties in A Level, what makes him think he will not have financial difficulties in future private university degree course?

IMO, he should forget about A Level and do STPM instead. Then go aim for dirt cheap public universities.

In life, one should learn to live within their means. Otherwise, we will all be demanding all sorts of thing. For me, that would going to Harvard on scholarship on a private jet with some beautiful playboy bunny as air hostess cool2.gif

Erm, tomorrow will be like an INTRO day. So, I think notebooks and few pen should be fine.

You do prove some points there. It's life, to say in short. sad.gif

But I'll try to help him though. I'm going to ask the counsellors there on how to help him. I'm sure it's solvable.

Pretty much most of the lecturers in HELP A-levels are really good. So far all my friends in different classes are satisfied with their lecturers. I know one of mine had a not-so-good lecturer for Chem though. So if you do have such a rare case, you should DEFINITELY report to A-levels department for lecturer-change. (do not wait till the last minute, do it ASAP. but if the intention is due to the fact that you don't like the lecturer then please don't do it)The A-levels department will handle your complaint accordingly, and you should have the problem solved in no time.

Have anyone told you that HELP is famous for their Psychology course? It speaks volume for what they offer. Former Taylorian here, so I am not being biased with my opinion.

Hello guys. smile.gif
I'm curious, does HUC offer twinning program for their Communication studies?
Thanks in advance.

Why can't you head to HELP and get some brochures? It will help you one whole lot, because you can even seek for the counselor at the same time to have them to answer your queries.

help's management is really horrific and terrible....inefficient and slow management system... doh.gif
help should really consider re-evaluating their staffs performance and their attitude towards students..
note: i am not talking about lecturers..just the management staff..from the finance dept to the help desk and even the receptionist!...rude n unfriendly management staff...no respect for students at all... doh.gif
i mean how can u management guys get angry and confront an unhappy student in a negative way when he complains and says something bad but true about the way u do stuff when u should be apologizing and improving the way u work?! try not to deny it whn we know every incident of this turns out the same way...its just plain barbaric guys doh.gif please do something about it..at least admit and say sorry..come on students r the ones financing yur salary..put it in another way they r the bosses...should u treat yur boss in this way elsewhr, he will gv a smack on yur head... doh.gif
parking sucks... doh.gif

the only thing worth goin thr is its quality in the education side, the structure of d degree programmes and having a wide scope of partner universities..thts all.

Yes you can, but it would take around 45minutes to reach, first from maluri go masjid jamek, change to putra line and go to bangsar lrt, and then take T634 rapid kl bus you can reach HELP.

You went today? Try coming on tommorow. Ill be at the science lab. =)

Life is not boring if u know how to utilize it over here. Trust me =) mid valley is only 5km away from HELP. smile.gif Not to mention other shopping malls. heh.

Me!! rclxms.gif

Gives you plenty of flexibility when u start working as u can be in the finance sector or become an accountant brows.gif

The thing is that you can decide what to major in (finance, acc, marketing or finance+acc) during your first year and then 2nd and 3rd year you'll be specializing in what u chose as your major

I'm in for the October intake...what about you? smile.gif

take the effort to look for the counselor there.. you will never know how many papers u will get exempted for particular year..
they need to look at your diploma certificate first before you can know the rest.. well, for the fees structure, it is totally the same.. depends on how many subjects you need to take.. therefore, i suggest you go and look for the counselor first.. hope this can help you.. rclxms.gif

Thanks a lot =D notworthy.gif

Facilities wise, nothing much can be said about it compared to other colleges like sunway or taylors since HELP is not a campus college, but they do have pool table and computer labs and basic facilities like that.

Lecturers in HELP are really helpful, hats off to them. As long as you do your part as a student (study, revise and ask if you don't understand), you'll surely ace your exams. Bear in mind that the competition is quite stiff though.

Food are a little on the expensive side, especially since I come from Ipoh. There are a lot of mixed rice and mamak stalls around the main block in addition to all those fast food outlets. (KFC, McD, subway etc.) The place you'll be studying do have a few spots to grab a bite but honestly, the food there isn't that great compared to my hometown. Or you can always go catch a quick movie if you have 2 hrs break in MidValley. smile.gif

The HELP hostel, I'd seriously say your experience during your tenure in the hostel depends on what kind of roommate you get. (if you opt for the twin-sharing room) They have an area (first floor) for students to spend time and get to know more other students.

Holidays start after the first sem exams end, for me it's the 9th of June until the first week of July. Different students will end their exams at different dates, depending on what paper they signed up for, so it may vary.

You have an option of either econs or physics if I'm not mistaken, not both. Don't take my word for it though, just remembering off-hand, so I might be wrong. You can take up to 5 subjects but of course your timetable would then be very packed (back-to-back whole day classes).

if you're looking for campus life, then HELP is not for you, since HELP is located in the city. We still manage to find ways to enjoy ourselves though. smile.gif

as a city campus, HELP lacks in the area of campus life.. I went in to HELP in 2004... what i can say is, the environment there went from ok to bad... we used to have a unique library that was once a pub/disco shaped as a pyramid... now.. library is divided into 2-3 blocks...

Parking is a nightmare also for those who drive... come after 8 and i guarantee that you won't get a parking at the main block... If you're studying at KPD or Wisma HELP, then you're stuffed.. have to park at the expensive parking lot and keep watch of your time.

However, despite its drawbacks, i do admit that being at HELP has been beneficial to my career... Get to know the lecturers well. I got introduced to many big bosses in the industry (media & advertising) through my lecturer and it was a big golden opportunity to learn not just from the books.

After reading most of the posts, HELP is not the right place to study diploma. How about foundation in science in terms of lecturers or the overall quality of the course ? Is that course located in main building? There's 1 thing I don't really get it which is the number of subjects we are required to take for Foundation in science.

Oh and about intermediate English, what do we have to do with that? Is there any literature content in that syllabus??

Thx. biggrin.gif

Hi, there,

i am selling my second hand books for Bachelor of business ( used for HUC and CSU ). All the books are kept in good condition.

Here are the original one,

If the results for Foundation In Science releases only on August next year, does that mean that I can't apply for UK's September intake in that same year and will have to wait for Jan/Feb or July/Sept intake in year 2012?

u can just apply the 2011 sept intake with conditional offer. smile.gif means apply using ur sem1 or sem2 result first..then after ur final result released u can submit it to the college.n make sure u must pass the exam..or else u wont be able to continue ur degree.. smile.gif

but it is better for u to ask the counsellor.

Thx a lot for your prompt response. If you wouldn't mind me asking another question, when is the release of sem2 result because I am wondering whether sem2 result can be used for Aussie's July 2011 intake. =)

btw, why dont you like mr gooi? tongue.gif sometimes his jokes are quite funny, and his classes are generally entertaining. he is a good lecturer though.

Yeah, Mr Chandra is teaching Econs.
Haha, maybe his jokes aren't funny to me tongue.gif

Oh btw Jack, you said we can buy books from Wisma E&C right?
Does the shop (where we buy Econs lecture notes) sell the photocopied accounting book?

I followed my friends to take that 2 other subjects.
Her bro said that it will be easier compare to Elements of Law + MKT as it won't be so stress biggrin.gif
That's why my timetable kinda nice, every Friday no class. rclxm9.gif

FYI: If you wanna buy ACC textbook, you gotta book and pay deposit of RM20 first and collect it on the day that you want.

I can't remember what's the course fee.
However, the cert will be under UOL only.
BTW, UOL is slightly better than UEL is because it is 100% exam base; no assignments available.
Whereas UEL there's 40% assignments (depending on the subject).

I am facing the same problem as you.
I intend to take the same course offrered by UOL
the course is around 48k to 55 k (not really sure but its around this range)
but my friend who is entering LSE this coming fall get curious about the UOL stuff
so yesterday we call up Help and enquiry anout this UOL stuff.

the Help counsellor said it will shows on the cert that this UOL external degree programme
and will show that we took this course in Malaysia.
so my interest towards this college soon disappear.

i'm starting my a levels soon and i am dunno whether should i take 3 or 4 subs. i am in science stream the subs that i am taking are chem, bio and maths. i am thinking of taking the 4th sub just to be safer, the subs that i'm considering are ICT, eng lit and further maths . my friend advised me not to take eng lit, while i don't think i can handle further maths. so, i am still considering should i take Ict as the 4th subject? and advice?
oh, does taking 3 subs in a levels lessens your chances to get into the uni you wanted?
thanks .
