Hi guys, quick question. If I connect a USB hard drive to my network (via a Multimedia/Print Server), will I be able to access the videos and MP3s on it from my PS3?

Have tried using some Media Server software on my PC and can access that stuff on my PS3, just want to know if this will work instead. Thanks!

Your 1080p signal will be converted to 1080i with 720p monitors (HD capable).

Why not just get an LCD TV?

720p LCD TV so cheap nowadays, 32" can get just above 2K what.

It will work if your fileserver is DLNA-certified

need some help guys..i noticed that few games like heavenly sword and assassin creed will ask you to patch your game when the patch is available.
my question - is there any way that we can copy the patch files to let say to our PC or usb drive? i usually stores my pc game patch on my pc so that when i need it, i will just run it without having to download again from the slow internet. is it possible to do offline patching without having to connect to PSN? currently downloading patch for assassin creed, already 20 minutes, filesize 25mb 80% complete.
i am thinking this way because im afraid when i wanted to play the game in future, the intended patch is no longer available and will have to settle with unpatched copy of game which contain some issue(exp unfixed framerate ,etc). there will be a time that a game will no longer will be supported and patch will not be available any longer sweat.gif

u'r right bro, last night i first time updated the PS3 version to 2.10 n waited quite long using ethernet cable. Then i have to wait for another 10 mins for COD4 patch to get updated... rclxub.gif

I would like to know whether can save a copy of the patch as well.

How do i create the server thingy? where i 1 2 view my pics, video and wallpaper from PC --> PS3?

Thanks

yes you can playback file larger than 2GB other than avi like mkv files but you must remux it into a vob or trancode/convert it into mpeg2 and transfer it via network to PS3 hdd....

Remux mkv into vob :-

Pros
- Only take 15-20mins.
- file size remains the same.
- picture quality remains like the original source.

Cons
- you can't ff/rw while playback.
- you can't stop in the middle and continue, once you stop, you must Play it from the beginning. You can only Pause the video.

Transcode/Convert into MPEG2

Pros
- you can ff/rw, stop in the middle and continue.
- picture quality remains like the original source.

Cons
- takes a longer time, 3-5 hours of transcoding (depends on the file size and how powerful your PC is).
- the file size will be almost double from the original file.

Most of the guides I saw on the nets show how to extract streams from MKV sources into MP4 container. Do you know if remuxing into MP4 container will have the same FF/RW/bookmark restrictions as VOB? I didn't bother to try as I don't have any MKV files yet tongue.gif

Yes, same problems if the file is bigger than 4GB. Smaller than that, OK for both VOB and MP4.

Remuxing to MP4 has one less advantage, you can't have 5.1-channel audio, it will be converted to 2-channel AAC.

You don't have to go around the net for the guide, I already wrote one for us, it's posted by acougan on the first page of this FAQ. wink.gif

Okay thanks for the clarification. At first I thought the FF/RW thingy is related to the container. It turns out that filesize is the culprit here notworthy.gif
