yes you can playback file larger than 2GB other than avi like mkv files but you must remux it into a vob or trancode/convert it into mpeg2 and transfer it via network to PS3 hdd....

If you read carefully my post, you can playback a mpeg2 or vob with h264 video and AC3 5.1 audio larger than 4GB. Only Divx coded files are restricted to 2GB filesize.

You installed MKV splitter?

The GOTSent program is the easiest and most reliable one for me. Just one click, no need to do it few times.

Don't do anything to the audio section, it will automatically choose after you browse for the file, depending on your input MKV.

Except if the MKV has more than one audio stream, only then you have to select the main stream.

If you want the audio to maintain as 5.1 channel, you need to toggle on "Mux to VOB", this because the MP4 container doesn't support multi-channel audio. And in the "AC3filter Options" choose output as "3/2+SW 5.1 channels". This only if you remux to VOB with 5.1 audio. If you don't select VOB, the program will convert the audio to 2-channel AAC remux it with the video.

Remember, this remuxing process never touch your video, so the picture quality will remain the same. That's why the process is so fast.  

For me it always work with 720p MKV movies, but for 1080p it mostly don't work. Which is fine because every remuxing program I know doesn't work for 1080p on PS3 either.

Make sure you have free harddisk space at least double the size of the original MKV. The program needs that space to work, imagine it takes apart the raw video and (converts if necessary) audio, and then getting them back together as a new file but in different container. If you're splitting, I think you need 3 or 4 times free space.

The split option is for FAT32 external harddisk you use to transfer to PS3, which can't hold any single file bigger than 4GB. But if you use a media server such as TVersty (http://www.tversity.com/home), you can use a single file up to 10 GB, no need to split.

The DTS audio it chose indicates the input audio stream inside the source MKV file, not the output. The output will always be AAC (MP4) or AC3 (VOB). Don't have to worry about that.

If ps3 80GB says that my harddisk is corrupted and it keep on trying to reformat it forever....it means the harddisk is dead rite?

sigh~ I hvnt even play it yet..and my brother told me that the harddisk is corrupted...
