yes you can playback file larger than 2GB other than avi like mkv files but you must remux it into a vob or trancode/convert it into mpeg2 and transfer it via network to PS3 hdd....

Remux mkv into vob :-
*
ooh..just read through your post...so..that means its possible to play files that is larger than 2GB, but smaller than 4GB ya? thought firmware 2.10 limits to 2GB...thank bro..

If you read carefully my post, you can playback a mpeg2 or vob with h264 video and AC3 5.1 audio larger than 4GB. Only Divx coded files are restricted to 2GB filesize.
*
haha...kinda blur here... divx/xvid coded files are .avi, which is limited to 2GB....while others such as mpeg2, mp4 can be in greater than 4GB ya (after remux from .mkv)? i got it right?

i just notice something...when i play HD movies/mtv (downloaded) on my tv (LG 32LC7R), two different things happen.

1) when i play in 1080p mode (actually 768p), when the screen moves fast, details like hair, or fast moving objects tends to have lines within them, which is especially apprearent at the edges..

2) when i play in 1080i mode, i dont have the lines..but the screen gets bit jerky when there's fast moving objects/scene...

is this normal?

You installed MKV splitter?
*
yeah..installed the mkv splitter and the ac3filter too..but i did uncheck "Split > 4GB"...and changed the audio from DTS to AC3...i need to convert a few times is it? i do notice after the first time i clicked on convert and progress done, the audio was set to DTS (but the output folder still empty), so i changed it to AC3...

The GOTSent program is the easiest and most reliable one for me. Just one click, no need to do it few times.

Don't do anything to the audio section, it will automatically choose after you browse for the file, depending on your input MKV.

Except if the MKV has more than one audio stream, only then you have to select the main stream.

If you want the audio to maintain as 5.1 channel, you need to toggle on "Mux to VOB", this because the MP4 container doesn't support multi-channel audio. And in the "AC3filter Options" choose output as "3/2+SW 5.1 channels". This only if you remux to VOB with 5.1 audio. If you don't select VOB, the program will convert the audio to 2-channel AAC remux it with the video.

Remember, this remuxing process never touch your video, so the picture quality will remain the same. That's why the process is so fast.   rclxms.gif

For me it always work with 720p MKV movies, but for 1080p it mostly don't work. Which is fine because every remuxing program I know doesn't work for 1080p on PS3 either.

I hope you can get it working this time. Good luck!  thumbup.gif

hmm...no idea what happened...it just crashes after progress 100%, and also after the mkv file splitted into 2.. (few times already)...anyway, so that means that after i choose the mkv file, and the audio was set to DTS, it's ok to leave it as DTS ya? cause i heard ps3 couldnt play dts...i must split the file?

Make sure you have free harddisk space at least double the size of the original MKV. The program needs that space to work, imagine it takes apart the raw video and (converts if necessary) audio, and then getting them back together as a new file but in different container. If you're splitting, I think you need 3 or 4 times free space.

The split option is for FAT32 external harddisk you use to transfer to PS3, which can't hold any single file bigger than 4GB. But if you use a media server such as TVersty (http://www.tversity.com/home), you can use a single file up to 10 GB, no need to split. nod.gif

The DTS audio it chose indicates the input audio stream inside the source MKV file, not the output. The output will always be AAC (MP4) or AC3 (VOB). Don't have to worry about that. wink.gif
*
hmm..yeah..i tried couple of times...one is a 4GB file, and another is a 2GB file...both crashed GOTsent after the split mkv file was created in the output folder, along with the .h264 file and .ass file

i'm going to try with mkv2vob...you think it'll work?

huh? by means that normal crt tv can display 720p/1080i/1080p? hmm...sounds fishy. isnt it that crt already comes with a standard amount of lines it can scan through?

as long as you could get into PSN store, your ps3 is connected. just get any games that support multiplayer and you're on your way.

no, you dont have to pay to play online, just get the game you wanted (i.e. Burnout, COD4, Warhawk, UT3, etc) and choose multiplayer in the game.

thusfar from what i know, only UT3 supports keyboard and mouse. you can also use both of them for web surfing and on Linux (if you installed one).
