I would say wait for the announcement this week by deputy head of MITI.

AP function to control/limit car import (or abused to enrich certain parties).

The government would also introduce a mechanism to prohibit the import of used parts and components effective June 2011, said Mustapa.

soo, with all the taxes involved, how much would i need to spend to bring in the 67 Camaro SS from America??
the current value of one in America is around USD 19,000
that works out to around RM65,000. pls note that the car will be 42 years old..
what are the taxes would i have to pay? and how much??

its still hard to understand the current situation on the importing of cars and the tax and excise duty apply to it... anyhw the gov is encouraging foreign car maker to open or invest car factory in m'sia... which is a good sign... sooner or later the issues of AP and duties will resolve..

If you qualify for personal AP.... tax will be a few K .... (RM 2 to 3 K)...

Best to wait till 2011 for the tax then .... monitor tax and gov policy changes from 2011 to 2014. Purchase 1st or 2nd hand cars (car age) accordingly. Present AP, you'll have to own the vehicle for more than 9 months and live abroad for more than 1 year. With the present tax/excise duties, best (lowest) tax is for vehicle more than 5 years, which commercial AP cannot use (only for personal AP).
