QUOTE(Painey @ Sep 18 2009, 12:32 PM)
Ok so here is the situation...

I am in Sydney and will be going back to Malaysia to work for a few years and my company is paying for my relocation costs.  I want to ship my 2002 Civic back since I have only clocked up 40K on it and I bought it brand new in Sept 2002 (just over 7 years now).

I have a few questions:

a) Can I apply for the AP in Australia or do I have to apply in Malaysia?
b) Where is the easiest place to get the AP form/JK form?
c) How long to apply for AP because I'm coming back in 4 weeks.
d) If I have to apply in Malaysia then can I send all my documents to someone in Malaysia to help me do it or do I need to apply in person? (do they need originals like passport etc or can I send certified copy via emails?
e) My driving license has expired - do I need to renew it first before doing this process?
f) Alternatively how about I send the car back to Malaysia first then only apply for AP???
g) Anybody got a sample letter to MITI that I can use for my application for AP?
h) Can somebody other than me clear everything in Malaysia (since I might have be travelling around for work) when the car arrives (do I need to be there?)
i) Is the discounts quite easy to get?
j) I'm assuming that the tax is going to be probably under RM15K - does that sound right? I'm assuming the 2002 Honda is around RM100K?

Sorry about the many questions but I tried asking MATRADE here (they dont know anything) and I have been trying to call MITI AP division (no reply)

Thanks!

Possible... but you'll have to proof that you wholly own the vehicle for at least 9 months while you were in UK. passport/visa/plane ticket used as proof date of return. By right you should own the vehicle for at least 1 year + 3 months already. Or at least 3 months before you left.. but you may need a short trip back to UK for the return proof.

yeah.. plus the insurance policy cover letter

FAQ:

Q: If i buy a car on my final year in overseas, when is the best time to buy a car/backdated?
A: Let say u are flying back to Malaysia on the 31th Dec.. (boarding pass) u should then buy the car at least at the end of march that year. Duration from the vehicle transfer date (vehicle reg cert) and the boarding pass must atleast 9 months with the insurance.

Q: How long the AP application processing time?
A: They said it will take only 7 working days if u submitted the JK69 Form with the completed supporting docs. And my AP completed about a month because of holiday season. (Christmas and New year)

Q: What to do if my AP application were rejected?
A: U can ask them why.. But most of the cases they will ask u to send any supporting docs that missing or if the car doesnt fullfill the 9 months ownership period, u could write a letter tell them why. They will let u have the AP but will makes u suffer a bit. *TIPS: keep calling them everyday.

Q: How much the port handling & forwarder (runner) will cost me?
A: Northport (Port Klang) will charge u RM860 for port handling and the forwarder is around RM600-700(Jan 2010)

Q: How much the storage will cost me at port?
A: If the car has been unloaded from the contena, it will cost u RM8.00 per day.

Q: Can i ship the car only without hiring the contena from Uk.
A: Yes u can. If u dont have any stuff to be sent with the car. U can choose to ship the car only. U'll be paying around GBP500; GBP200 less from the 20 foot contena. They will put ur car and someone else car together in one 40 foot contena. (info@malaysiacargo.com)

Q: Can i make a refund of the road tax in UK after i shipped the car?
A: Yes u can. But u should complete the specific section (i forgot which section) in the Vehicle Reg Cert aka V5C or declare SORN and send it to the DVLA. After u have the acknowledgement letter from the DVLA, u should pick up the V33 form from the post office and make a refund.

1.5 to 1.6k quite high for Port Handling and Forwarder (even for container), Charges for roll on, roll off the car without container should be cheaper....

My AP took 3 weeks..

quite cheap for a 20ft container 700 pounds to  Port Kelang. Sharing a 40ft container would be cheaper for the two individuals.

Seriously.. thats what i've received from northport D.O recently.. am i cheated? and for the forwarder, i've been asking many of my friends that using diff forwarder and mostly the price is around 600-700.. how much do u pay for it beastX? or best price u can get?

How long generally for car to arrive in KL from UK? Can you recommend any company in UK from experiences of members in this forum?

So, I tried to understand the tax system as you described, plz correct me if I am wrong,  if my car S2000 retail price is 27000. Than minus 17.5 vat which is 4725, left witrh 22275. As the car is over 5 years old, allowing for 70% reduction, left with 6683, thats when I get confused and do you times 120%? Is it the same for japanese car even if i bought in Europe?

Thanx!!!

When ur car manufacturing date? Mine was in sept 1999, the docket price is €25000.. And the exchange rate was 4.8.. U should check the docket price 1st matey..

The shipping duration is around 5 - 6 weeks..

There's no diff if u bring in the s2k from eu, i brought my honda from uk too..
