Just doing a survey on sleep patterns as I noticed some people have less sleeping less hours. Young people in their twenties or early to mid thirties may cope better in the sense that they do not experience any headaches or health complications even if getting less sleep or no sleep at all. If I have less than 6 hours of sleep I will usually get headaches and don't feel good throughout the day, so I'm curious how do other people cope.

As the title of the thread suggests, how many hours of sleep do you require for a night to not get any headaches.

You need good 8.hours.with balanced deep, REM and light sleep. Early night sleep is the best to follow your cirdcadian rythm grandmaster hormone.

The lesser sleep effect will show in the later age of life. That time, you want to sleep to recover also your brain wont allow.

Yes, that is the reason I am curious to see how different the answers would be. How I wish I could sleep up to 8 hours these days. I don't touch 8 hours already these days, at most it would be 7.5 hours.

7 hours would be best.

Yes, that is ideal, early night sleep between 9pm to 10pm. Though I presume many people sleep a lot later. I usually go to bed around 10.30pm and get my eyes shut before 12am. I get to sleep at 11pm on average. Yes, agreed deep sleep is best and important, deep quality sleep. Even though one gets 6 or 7 hours of sleep but it's not deep sleep, when you wake up you won't feel good as it's poor quality sleep.

Not sure whether some of you have experience that you will wake up around the time when you usually wake up even though you stay up quite late & less than minimum 6 hours of sleep.

Regularly auto awake early & will take short naps in the afternoon to recover the sleep shortfalls. If not, will feel like zombie for certain period of the day...

Waking up around the time one usually wakes up, yes that happens to me, and that is the reason I try not too sleep too late or else I will get less sleep if I wake up around the time I usually wake up. I usually set alarms on weekdays, but sometimes before the alarm rings I have waken up already. If it's on weekends, I don't set alarms and most of the time I will wake up later but it won't be too far off from my 'usual' wake up time.

As for afternoon naps, I rarely take a nap during lunch time but if I take a nap, it would be around 30 minutes or up to an hour. Honestly, it feels good after a short but good nap. If one has enough sleep during the night, usually afternoon naps are not required. If afternoon naps are required, it indicates that the person does not have enough sleep at night.

Have you checked for OSA (obstructive sleep apnea)? I have OSA.

Before using CPAP, sometimes even 8 hours is not enough

After using CPAP, 6 hours is OK. 5 hours once in a while OK, if everyday cannot.

Not sure about OSA but good to know.

Yes, I guess everyone is different, 5 to 5.5 hours once in a while is still Ok. I will surely have headaches and won't feel good throughout the day if that happens to me. biggrin.gif

Above 6 hours would be good for me. Average I get about 6.5 hours a day which is considered good enough. Others will have different requirements since everyone is different, hence the poll since I noticed in other threads people getting 4 or 5 hours of sleep as they play games late at night, or do other sort of activities.

get a garmin watch or something that can track your sleep

I noticed if I sleep lesser than recommended, (6hrs<), if the REM sleep is high, then no issue .

The problem if even you sleep long long, but no REM sleep . Malay say "tidur ayam" . Then sure u wake up headache.

now , to increase the REM sleep, that is another long story

I think late or early makes a difference. Normally, I go to bed around 10:30 pm, which is fine. However, if I sleep after midnight after 12am, even if I get 8hrs of sleep, I still feel tired and have a headache

try take creatine in the morning and magnesium supplement before sleep.
it will help you get deep sleep and get full sleep with shorter hours too.

Less than 6 hours felt like brain fog to be honest.
