Just noticed that Maxis' 2600 MHz has been reduced to 10 MHz, at least in the KL Sentral area.

Thought it might be some MOCN but it's being aggregated with ARFCN 1300 which I believe is their B3.

Will report back if I observe the same reduction elsewhere.

Moved around still only getting 10 MHz of B7. Around KL.

Also 10 MHz in Shah Alam.

Speeds are worse too. Meanwhile folks on Celcomdigi get to enjoy 2 20x20 MHz of B3 + 20x20 MHz of B1 + 2 20x20 MHz of B7. smile.gif

Not much difference for speed...maybe about 30~50mbps...before this can get 300mbps easily during off-peak hours...and, they still got split 4G/5G data usage for Hotlink user...While, Maxis no split data..atleast, 5G no 100mbps speed capped like CD...but, U is win bcoz got their own 5G network now...

This is last month test...evening usually 150mbps speed...now with 10mhz bw...for sure much slower...above speed test max i get just 280mbps...im on fiber... don't mind anyway...now many company cut cost... encourage user use 5G...that is not exist inside building... laugh.gif user posted image

Guess like the reduction is a nationwide thing done on internal system - I was on Paradigm JB right now, and the bandwidth is also reduced.

As you said, the capacity is slightly reduced (by around 75Mbps - it depends on the modulation Maxis is using) - but for those who live in already congested areas and using 4G, even the slightest reduction of bandwidth is going to be felt, very significantly. But yeah, as with you, I also have fibre at home - this doesn't really matter me - unless I am outside.

Actually CelcomDigi only have 35MHz max on B3, and 20MHz on B1 after bandwidth adjustments - they will still have B7 via Altel only (they will no longer own that spectrum). That's why they have to cap on 100Mbps

Speaking of which, does Maxis lease spectrum from another entity? If they have to drop to just 10 MHz, does this signal (hah) the expiry of the deal or are they just test test.

Berjaya huh? Not sure how it works but, are they going to repurpose it for U Mobile or something? Last time I had U Mobile they also only have 10 MHz of B7.

Another possibility - Maxis, U Mobile are going to get that released CelcomDigi spectrum (?)

In fact recent developments (for example being awarded as the company responsible of second 5G network) has resulted on U Mobile become the largest holder of mobile spectrum in Malaysia.

Interesting haven't thought of that, also I remember CD having B7 at EARFCN 3150 & 3350, I guess they have relinquished 3350 as I haven't seen it for a while, just 3150 (which I think was Celcom's?).

EARFCN is like a channel number. It's the exact frequency, 3150 is 2660 MHz, 3350 is 2680 MHz, I guess it's just my area then.

That spectrum is not useful U Mobile, repurposing that spectrum will require U Mobile to move its spectrum as well.

I use uplink for easier depiction
MHz Owner
2500-2510 Redtone (Was leased to Maxis)
2510-2520 Maxis
2520-2530 U Mobile
2530-2540 Celcom
2540-2560 Altel (Leased to CelcomDigi)
2560-2570 Digi

I personally do think U Mobile might stand a chance to grab the Celcom B7 spectrum and widen its B7 to 20MHz, Maxis or Redtone decision to not continue leasing on the 2500-2510MHz will just be a spectrum wastage, can't do anything about that.
