QUOTE(shaun_kok @ Sep 28 2025, 10:50 PM) Another possibility - Maxis, U Mobile are going to get that released CelcomDigi spectrum (?) That spectrum is not useful U Mobile, repurposing that spectrum will require U Mobile to move its spectrum as well.In fact recent developments (for example being awarded as the company responsible of second 5G network) has resulted on U Mobile become the largest holder of mobile spectrum in Malaysia. I use uplink for easier depiction MHz Owner 2500-2510 Redtone (Was leased to Maxis) 2510-2520 Maxis 2520-2530 U Mobile 2530-2540 Celcom 2540-2560 Altel (Leased to CelcomDigi) 2560-2570 Digi This post has been edited by jasontanky: Sep 29 2025, 05:27 PM |

I personally do think U Mobile might stand a chance to grab the Celcom B7 spectrum and widen its B7 to 20MHz, Maxis or Redtone decision to not continue leasing on the 2500-2510MHz will just be a spectrum wastage, can't do anything about that.

QUOTE(shaun_kok @ Oct 4 2025, 04:09 AM) https://www.thestar.com.my/business/busines...trum-assignment Either they'll need to upgrade equipment to broadcast 2x15 and 2x10 respectively, or just use the 2x20MHz aloneMaxis will soon have 25MHz X2 on 2100MHz. Maxis already have pre existing 15MHz X2, and recent news have reported they have accepted/secured 10MHz X2 from MCMC. This probably explains why Maxis stopped renting spectrum from REDtone. It is likely that Maxis gets the spectrum that was released from CelcomDigi - resulting on contiguous 25MHz spectrum - Maxis will very likely soon expand their 2100MHz to 20MHz X2 and 5MHz X2 (or 15MHz X2 + 10MHz x2). |

QUOTE(NagaK @ Oct 4 2025, 11:08 PM) So that means finally Maxis going to offer better indoor coverages? Which is where lacking for many years This spectrum will not bring any improvement to 4G coverage, but speed. Based on such spectrum portfolio, they could finally offer 5CA 4G+ |

Personally, I do hope U Mobile 5G is able to ease out some DNB congestion. However, it seems this is still barely the case because U Mobile 4G coverage is still not as good as Maxis and CelcomDigi, so most still refrain to switch despite able to access to its own 5G + DNB 5G.

My personal experience (In Northern Puchong and Subang with Southern PJ)
Other than my uni's faculty in Cyberjaya (where Celcom 4G signal worsen significantly after using Digi infrastructure, the site location is not optimal), Celcom basically have improved quite a lot in both average signal strength and speed. Maxis has decline very little overall but still very usable. Indoor commercial building coverage wise, CelcomDigi has really shine except like Summit USJ (Maxis indoor carpark better), pretty much everywhere I get better CelcomDigi signal, (either CelcomDigi 4G+, Maxis 4G or CelcomDigi 4G+, Maxis No Signal) But in terms of high-rise residential, they both are mixed bag, alongside with U Mobile, some CelcomDigi better, some Maxis, some U Mobile. No clear winner, by it is almost surely that your home fibre Internet is the winner. IOI Putrajaya, I somehow get better speed on CelcomDigi than Maxis despite Maxis having pRRU (except some parts of ground floor where Maxis deployed pRRU). Pretty much any places else CelcomDigi tends to perform better with its MIMO DAS. |

I think Maxis had shifted its focus to prioritize more on fibre expansion nowadays, u do see Maxis has started to pacak its own DP and not relying on TM DP in more and more places now
