a) deny China’s claim and confront them by force (ie. Pinoys choice)
b) to support China's claim and cede territory to them meekly

If you don't know what is the third option, it is to negotiate with China and come to a compromise/agreement. I have not seen any evidence that say China is unwilling to come to a compromise with regards to the SCS issue. Whether you like it or not, the strong eats the weak in this world. Sure the weak may band together to kick the strong, but there will be casualties. Do we want to be the casualties? I can tell you with 100% certainty the Americans will never be the casualty of this confrontation.

i understand peaceful settlements are preferred. in negotiations, there are red lines for each party. our claimed borders are our red lines. if the other party crosses that line, then there's nothing more to discuss. it's ICJ or war. we will always pick ICJ. china won'r dare to meet us there. they know their claim has no merit.
