eager to buy this to replace my 2nd phone

Thinking to replace my mom’s SE3 to this model since the screen sometimes has visible lines which we have no idea how it happens.

SE4 has a bigger screen which is good for her as she has been complaining the current screen is too small for her. She uses its for communication purpose now and other things are done on her old Samsung Android phone.

Let’s see how much it will cost once it’s here. I got her SE3 back in July 2022 for RM 1969 - 128GB.

Damn man. I needed a phone so went for the S25. But if this launches at around RM2.5k for the 256GB model, I'm gonna be regretting it!!!

Plan to get one for my mum. She doesn’t care about 120Hz or dynamic island. She has also, to my knowledge, never ever used the telephoto lens on her current 13 mini. I think she doesn't even know how to switch the focal lengths. This SE will likely be more than enough for her.

Will likely wait till May though. Must see if got any issues with Apple’s new in-house 5G modem working with our local kapchai telcos. Plus, in May I also can use Mother’s Day as the occasion to present it to her. If I buy it this month, then in May I will need to spend money on flowers again.

Planning to get 13 as its the cheapest iphone rn. But had to wait to see how’s the pricing for the new SE since the internal is so much better. I guess no launching this week.

lightning port is not really a con if all your devices use lightning port.

My only concern with the ip3 is does the green line issue already fixed? If the price gap between the ip13 and the new SE is more than 600 bux, I might get the 13. Still considering.

i bought the iphone 13 (non pro) for my dad 3 years ago, around the 10th or 11th month, the phone developed the green line / rainbow screen problem. Sent it back to machines for warranty and the phone came back after a week with a new screen... used it for another year and the same problem came back... had to trade in to compasia for rm300 only and bought the iphone 14 instead...

I'd go for iphone SE and avoid the 13

Buy this SE4 is better than iPhone 13 because Apple guarantees 7 years of iOS updates. iPhone 13 will not be able to update anymore in a couple of years if you are considering to use the phone for long terms.

Now this issue still happening on 14 and 15 pro models. Not sure about 16.

I think if you change the screen with third party OLED, will solve the issue. The issue lies with the crappy screen quality from Apple's supplier. Could even fetch a higher resale value with a working screen.

I think this would be the most best selling iPhone release in recent years

Just these few transition alone is more than enough.

- OLED
- 6.1 inch screen
- USB C
- 48mp single lens

But when added on with

- A18
- 8gb RAM
- AI enabled for down the road updates
- Same back glass manufacture process with iP16

Then it becomes really compelling value, even if when its priced at ~10% higher than its predecessors

Was considering this for my mum, but at RM3499 for the 256gb variant, seems like a bad deal when the standard iPhone 16 is just RM1k more with the same storage. Might as well wait for the 17 and see first. She can still manage with her 13 till then end of the year.

Not enough value at this price point and waiting to have the review of the new 5G modem as well. Previous non Qualcomm modems tends to have higher heat and power usage, I doubt it's as efficient as those.

RM3k is painful. I don't see that many buts to that statement.

Apple AI is kind of useless at this point (Feb 25) compared to chatgpt as a standalone free app and if they delay the additional AI function packages then it becomes even more useless to buy it now, by Oct / Nov 25 you can literally buy the IP16 outright for the same price as the 16E when the 17 is launched and the 16 is reduced by $100-200.

I really cannot see how SE customers are going to get a dollar for dollar replacement of their current model. Apple is pure greed here. Its like Airlines removing 10 economy seats and replacing them with 8 Business class. Just because it will nett in more revenue.

So what about the A18 chip inside the iPhone 16e? According to Apple, it has a 4-core GPU – two less than the A18 Pro and one less than the A18 in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Does this mean that the iPhone 16e is slower or will perform worse? Not for most users. Was hoping for a RM2400 ish phone for my parents to use with AI and Apple Watch but this price kinda difficult to swallow. I might still buy it, it’s not too much but I am tempted to avoid ip16 and just get the 15 or heck the 14 and call it a day.

I think you can get that price during some of the double digit promo. But still, have to consider spec wise of getting the 16E or the non pro iPhone 15. I would say just sit back and observe how the 16E is going, especially with the new Apple 5G chip and battery life.

Ya, agree. But in real life, even the very "poor battery life" Iphones of recent years can actually do the job of 9-5. Other wise i dont see issue with charging in the middle of the day also. As example I used Iphone 12 mini (considered the worst in the last 5 years excluding Iphone SE) as my work phone with IOS18 just 2 months ago for 3 weeks. It had 91% battery health and yet I managed to survive the workday by just charging it as I go. Frankly speaking no real issue for me. Just a bit lag and it was fine.
We are very far from the days of past when Android phones deplete the battery at 5% per hour with no usage and you panickingly search for the wake timer, wake event, install greenify, deepsleep whatever nonsense. I mean even recent android phones dont need such micro management.

Nowadays telco contract is really not worth it. There's plenty options to get it cheaper than RRP. And with a bit of patience we can get better deal.

And based on history for previous SE model was never a hit, many people don't even recognize the SE series.

Meh I got my Galaxy S25 512GB for cheaper than this. I was considering this to replace my secondary phone but that price with the removed/nerfed features is just ridiculous. Not even diehard applefags would consider this good value for money or even worth considering when you can get a 15 or topup a bit more for the 16. Any AI at this point is a useless gimmick.
