ive read about how one assume a pit would be a very dangerous dog ...
ive had 2 pits in the past and expecting my 3rd pit in a month...

well, thru my experience, ive had a shitzu before my pits..
and believe me, my pit is human friendly and somehow, knows how to respect my shitzu...
he would shy away when my shitzu is around, but my shitzu is the one acting all pit while my pit act all shitzu....

to me, its how you bring the dog up..
ive walked in to pits and rottweilers compound without a prob, as the owner is there to command.. & i too have been to my friends house and got bitten by a chihuahua and a .... that mini doberman dog....

in most cases, its often how one brings up the dog..
and its sad to say a lot does not know how... especially those who dont have access to internet...

a very simple thing would be.....
people often go hit the dog trying to correct them when bite foot wear..
but how many would know, you need to teach and correct them as off the moment they do it or they would forget what the punishment is for...

simple said, all dogs can be dangerous if the way of bringing it up is wrong..

Any Vet will do that i guess, try to ask your Vet will they do the crop job, if not you have to find another one.

Pitbulls are sweet dogs, they are not as fierce as people think they are. The bad reputation created for pitbulls is not true, ask pitbull owners here!

if u r talking about american pitbull terriers, then its ok. they r more loyal and friendly than u can guess. but they need more care like other pets.

Try calling up MKA for some breeders' contact.

It's not as simple as that. In general, both breeds are good with kids but pits especially can be very aggressive towards other small animals. The issue is with the bloodline, whether show, working or guard types. For a pure breed GS registered with MKA or similar body with papers, you may be able to track its ancestry through several generations. Show dog types tend to be real pussies, they are relatively docile. However, for an american pit which is non-registrable with MKA, you can't check their ancestry. My experience is that pits have higher prey drive and energy; need closer supervision and a firm hand to avoid accidental dog fights.

I am confused. Why would a dog suddenly attack someone they familiarized in the home?

Zero in on key facts to throw some light on the tragic episode

1 The family had the dog for only 4 weeks, not a long time to be familiarised
2 The dog is a French Mastiff cross ; mastiffs are a large, strong breed
3 The dog's previous background/history is not revealed
4 The circumstances under which the attack took place are not disclosed
I am also not sure how the pitbull tag came into the picture unless the dog is a cross between a mastiff and a pitbull. Pits get undeserved bad press and many dog attacks are wrongly attributed to pits even when it's another breed.

Never let young children play with an aggressive breed dog without adult supervision. Kids can be rough with the dog eg pulling its ears, hitting it, and it may react by biting back. Some temperamental dogs lose control easily under such provocation.

Dog can live with you is 1 thing, whether they respect you or not is another matter....

and where the dog lives, that is his territory... not yours....
proper up bringing is a must....

owner of 3 pits in the past and 1 pit now...

This was Taken During Chinese New Year. This is Benji Enjoying the Fireworks on Chinese New Year Eve. My other 2 dogs are hiding during this ordeal. But Benji seems to enjoy it.

This is Benji's expression when he sees me all dressed up going visiting.

And you should have seen him with my guests during CNY. He was so welcoming of everyone. Even some people he never saw before.
A good example of a Pitbull who is extremely friendly and does not have a vicious bone in his body.
