QUOTE(kamikazwe @ Dec 9 2007, 01:38 PM) lol...i dun understand how the maggot got in there...i didnt give them any fresh food...i was like WTF!!...straight away cleen the tank...the tank oso just been clean 1 week ago...damn la...not funny at all...guys...whats the brand of anti bacteria spray should i buy for them eh? any recomendations? Ah..... I tell you why.... coz it happened to before to me too. It is when the bedding becomes damp. It can be from a leaking water bottle, it makes the bedding wet.... then the pee and poo also become wet, and small flies are attracted to the smell, coz it smells of rotten wood. You do not need to be so worried about it. The maggots will not harm your gerbils and they are from the fruit fly species, not those big dirty flies.... so you just wash the tank normally, it would be alright. No need to buy anti-bacteria spray... those contain aerosol, which can actually harm your gerbils' breathing. |

Main difference is gerbils are better at climbing, chewing, destroying anything chewable. They pee less than hamsters but dig more.

Can anybody answer my quiestion,...? Is Gerbil bite? Becoz I plan to rear Gerbil but I"m scared that they will bite, becoz before this I rear a hamster and they always bite even I wash my hand first to make sure that dont have food smell.

Becoz I plan to rear Gerbil but I"m scared that they will bite, becoz before this I rear a hamster and they always bite even I wash my hand first to make sure that dont have food smell. They don't bite but they do nip if your hand smells funny (shampoo, soap or food).Make sure to rub your hands with their bedding to get their own smell At least it works for me..... Oh yeah.... one more question, what happens if my gerbils are picky of food? They tend to finish all the kuaci and left all other food untouched Or do i just leave all the food until they finished it all? This post has been edited by yuying1: Dec 10 2007, 10:08 PM |

QUOTE(sOuLx @ Dec 10 2007, 08:15 PM) as a beginner which one do u guys suggest me to start with, Well it depends la. After all syrian hamsters are solitary, so keeping 1 is easier than maintaining a gerbil clan. Then hamsters do not chew and destroy the water bottles as much as gerbils. Cost is about the same unless you go and buy those expensive cage for hamsters, then gerbil is cheaper because they just need a plastic tank. However cleaning wise gerbil is easier because they dont pee so much as hamsters and stink less.hamster or gerbil? gerbils look kind of cute.. which one easier to take care.. how about the cost of taking care of them?coz i was thinkg of getting the glider at first but then its better to start with something easier.. |
