Hi onemilimeter,

Based on your threads on London Weight Management, liver biopsy, side-effects of Omega-3 supplements and your diet post, I say that you're one anxious fella.

Try to relax.

Relax.

Relax.

I bet you've been reading the Internet till your eyes bleed. Take a break from it for while and chill. Regarding insulin resistance, dont worry about it so much. I myself have it due to genetic & my previous lifestyle, on meds for it but good God man you need to calm down a bit smile.gif

Based on your diet posted here, http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry13883658
I say that you have a BIG problem with your eating habit. Switching your rice to quaker oats will only be of little help in the long run if you dont watch other things that you put in your mouth.

For example, you have oats for breakfast. Most of us eat it with honey or fresh milk. You, my fren, opted for powdered milk, milo and sugar. Can you see the problem there?

Oh there's another thing you can do to help lower your insulin resistance risk - exercise. I bet you dont even think of doing it, just want to diet them out. Exercise has more benefits other than weight loss. I'm sure you can read on the Internets for it's benefits wink.gif

Thanks for your advices. Really appreciate... I did read the Internet till my eyes bleed... Ha Ha!

Ya... I was anxious when found out something wrong might happen to my liver.
Is honey good for people with insulin resistance? I thought honey (something sweet) is not good for diabetic patient or patient with insulin resistance. By the way, what do you mean 'fresh' milk?
I tried to reduce weight (exercise + diet control) last few days and I found it's very difficult. It's really not an easy task...

1) Honey? In moderation, yes. But better to avoid. I take oats twice a week with Splenda (sugar subtitute, no cals biggrin.gif) - most of the time I avoid carbs like the plague. No rice, no noodles, no bread.

2) Fresh milk = non powdered milk. A lot of skim milk were powdered first, added water and sold as 'normal milk'. Good fresh milk includes HL, GoodDay, Farmhouse etc

3) It's difficult. Today I did 40mins cardio in the morning and 30 in the evening WITH weights AND diet. Trust me I know how hard it is.

The difference between the two,is Rolled Oats is not processed and nutrients are still intact,as compared to Instant Oats. This also makes Rolled oats longer time to cook than instant oats. Between the two, choose rolled oats. This is just like choosing between brown flour (use to make capati etc) and white flour, brown rice and white rice, wholemeal buns and white buns etc.

Don't mind if I tumpang thread ah..

Is Quaker in M'sia selling any other kinds of oats other than instant and quickcook? I just realized instant oats has a rather high G.I. I went to the Quaker website and found out they sell Old-fashion and steel-cut (Scottish) oats.

So, I went to the supermarket and found out there is only instant and quickcook cry.gif Where can I buy steel-cut oats? icon_question.gif

If you want to gain the benefit of eating oats, first make sure it's rolled oats. The oat is a health food source, high in fiber, lowers your cholesterol level,so don't spoil it by adding Koko Crunch, white sugar, condense milk etc. If you have to, pure honey is better, adding fruits like raisins, strawberry, kiwi and have it with sugarless soy milk or low fat milk, add cinnamon to taste.

Else, the cholesterol reducing capability of oats have been spoiled by adding Koko Krunch etc, might as well just have Koko Crunch. It's like tea drinking, a very healthy thing to do,the English and the Japanese does it with style, but we here in SEA,ruin it,tainted it,buy adding condensed milk, sugar etc etc.

Check out Carrefour, they have a section for Organic Food.
Giants also stocks 'Rolled Oats',brands like Sanitarium, Quaker etc.
Sanitarium is the maker of Wheatbix - OZ's favorite breakfast.

Looking at a Nasi Lemak or Roti banjir, now that's disgusting.
Just get Rolled Oats if you can't find Steel Cut Oats here in Malaysia.
Between the 2,it's how you prepare it that makes the real difference.

Else,if you're just too lazy to cook or your momma or 'Neng' won't make it for you, just have 3 Wheetbix biscuit.

why would koko crunch reduce cholesterol? koko crunch has more fiber than cornflakes.
did i say i use white sugar, condense milk? doh.gif don't like to add extra sugar in my food cos koko krunch can sweeten it up a little. besides that, i don't really have koko crunch everyday. sometimes just oat+cornflakes, cos koko crunch is a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE than cornflakes.

I saw Quaker Rolled Oat in Giant today...

now,is that disgusting?  rclxms.gif

At least, nasi lemak n roti banjir are not as disgusting as bak kut teh, lagi disgusting..

Anyways, last week i went to Midvalley on Friday, there was a health screening expo or something on the 3rd floor at the midvalleys exhibition center. I went there n did a health screening, blood pressure, body fat, weight, height n ect.. Then the expert gave me some advices la dont smoke, dont this, dont that n she also mentioned that, if you wanna eat oat, eat the rolled oat, not instant oat la, quacker oat la.
The rolled oat has more nutrients and better in lowering your cholestrol.
Is this true?

N she told me also , dont have to cook the rolled oat for hours, just pour in the hot water, wait for 5 minutes, n u can eat already, is this true as well?
I afraid sakit perut later.

To be not boring with the oats...i sometime will add banana, sometime use raisins and sometime add in honey...with one scoop of milo....at least it won't taste so dull and plain.....

Plain oat is hard to swallow. Prefer to add them into hot drink.
