I think it probably has not enough stamina.
It would be advisable to start slowly, take it out for daily walk for about 10-15 minute first and gradually increase the time to increase its stamina.
Don't over exercise the dog, coz it may collapse. -> see below:

i just spend one week holiday to toilet trained kero. What i can say now is he is about 50% success only. Kero also like to pee on my floormat all the time.

Let me know if the training is good. I might consider, but i think i will really miss kero if he is away for 20 days

maybe goldy is getting familiar and comfortable with you all so she is showing more of her naughty side.

Sigh, Monday have to start work - holiday finished for the year. I am going to miss the time playing with my furkids.

Shushu is not allowed to go up the sofa but kero always sneak up and push all the pillow down. Then, both of them will chew and carry the pillows all over the room...

Yah, it is fun to see them together, but recently I am having a headache with shushu. Dunno he is copying kero or not, since kero is here - my "normally crazy about food" shushu has become very picky in food - he is refusing to eat his kibbles!!
I am giving him the "don't eat, no other treat or food" treatment but it doesn't seem that effective. Probably there is another partner in crime and both of them just continue playing with each other.

p/s: Wah, so nice can see lots of doggies in UK and Europe - they must have very nice coat, since the weather is much more cooling.

Tomorrow i am bringing Kero for his last vacination. Then can go kaikai with him liao....hoho
Shushu just finished his shedding season - now at least i don't see that much of fur bunnies flying all over the place.
I am thinking of getting a new vacuum cleaner (those with blow/dry/wet function) though. Since recently it keep on raining - very hard to get shushu's fur to dry. However, he is afraid of the noise, even small hair dryer he will run when he sees it. Luckily kero small size, easy to bath & dry. If 2 also GR, I think i will pengsan.

How's the trip?

On Tuesday night, dunno how shushu injured one of his hind paw (there is a small bleeding wound at the area between the toes and some swelling too).
Yesterday check the wound like a bit wet but not bleeding - so put some yellow lotion on it. He keep licking on it. The morning see the wound dry up liao but a lot of crust there. Maybe will bring him to the vet tomorrow to check on it. (today his vet not open)

Originally, prince pappy wanted to organise a overnight trip to Cameron Highland but dunno why suddenly no news liao.
Dunno it is now cancel or defer also......

I also dunno. I just finished mopping the floor and let him out to the porch.
When he come back got some drop of blood on the floor, then we check is from his leg.
Now drying up but still very red, a bit purple colour - i just put some yellow lotion again during lunch time.

No lar, not cny gathering... just wondering how is everyone preparation coz some may bring their furkids balik kampung mah. I am bringing shushu & kero back to my grandma house in kuala kangsar but not staying overnight there. Too crowded and it is malay area (kampung). Hard to take them out for walkie.

Shushu is still 30kg the last time he weight, and the vet said his weight is optimum wor?
Recently he has become picky in food somemore... both of them fighting to be the pickiest.

Hmmm, he was licking on it on thursday nite but now like nothing liao. But he doesn't like me checking on his leg though.
This morning a very funny thing happen. I put kibbles in their bowls and as usual, both of them smell it, just look at me and wouldn't eat.
Then kero started picking his kibbles and I quickly praised and sayang him so he continue to eat his kibbles. When shushu saw it, he got jealous and started eating his kibbles too. Then i praised and sayang him also. Shushu ate a bit, and keep looking at kero whether he is still eating or not. Everytime he stop, i sayang kero and he will continue eating again. Both of them finished their kibbles today.

walao! You should see the biggest one that nezumitaro have for Momo's batch. Then you will said my momo is a wee tiny thing

Shushu getting more manja ---> becoming a drama dog now.
If i sayang kero, he also will come and want sayang. If kero sit on my lap, he also must sit on my lap.
He also whine even i leave him with kero sometimes. However, he never bite kero / show jealously toward kero. More like disatisfaction to me coz I have divided the time spend with him previously for kero also.

his wound is clearing
Shushu is active day and night. He is a very alert watchdog, he even patrol the whole house and is always awake when I come downstairs. He even bark at the big tanglung my neighbour hang at the border of our house today when he went out to the porch.
Surprisingly, kero is not jealous of shushu. I think he look up to him as big brother. He even watches the way shushu bite his bones and follow. My sis and I was laughing when we saw that everytime shushu changes the end of the bones he was biting, kero will follow suit. Yah, I think shushu is a more emo dog than kero.

I think kokifung means coming into heat / period.
I am not very sure (since all my dogs are male ) but I think they come into heat every 6 months and last average 3 weeks.

There is still some swelling on between the toes but other than that, it looks ok.

oh, he got detained for 2 days. It is good to hear that Abu likes agility, coz when i see him last time he was quite passive/introvert type as compared with his other siblings. Maybe at that time when i visit, he was sleepy.

I wish I got more time to train kero and shushu too.
Shushu started doing jumping last Sunday. His trainer handmade some gate for them to jump on and it was quite fun.
However, at the moment we only have jumping for agility here, coz there is no other equipment available.
His obedience still sucks! He only listen according to his mood. I need to train harder on my handling skill.
Kero unfortunately I have no time at all to start training him yet.
He still doesn't know how to walk with leash. He only knows the sit command, coz i practise that everytime they eat.

Welcome to the retriever thread! It is good to know that your are doing some research and asked around for further advice before getting a puppy.
Chibi_tenko has given you some very good advice there. I will just add a little bit more.

Firstly, make sure you are financially ok before getting your puppy. There are lots of expenses after the initial cost of acquiring the pup, as being a big breed - GR ate a lot! A 15kg dog food can last shushu (my GR) plus minus 1 month only while my kero (ckcs) only need <3kg /month. Besides food, there are expenses like treats, toys, leash, collar, shampoo, cage / crate. Be prepared to fork out $$ if they fall sick. Depends on the illness, vet bills may range from RM40/visit to >RM100/visit. I have spend more than >2K just for shushu medical bills!

Secondly, make sure you have time to take care of your GR. GR are very sociable creature. They are most happy being with people. They don't do well being left alone, especially for a long period of time. If being left too long, it can develop seperation anxiety and may also destroy your furniture or stuff because it is too bored.

If can, bring your GR for training / obedience. GR is a big breed and though very friendly, may be hard to control once they get too excited. Basic obediance will be helpful to both owner and dog. Furthermore, it is a good way to spend time with your GR too.

There is one question I would also like to ask. GR shed a lot! I repeat - really a lot! There will be fur flying around even though you clean the house everyday. Are you and your family ok with it? This is important as some GR owner actually give them up because of this reason. If your family and you cannot accept this, please do not get a GR.

My house is a double storey one also and shushu does fine in it. It doesn't even have a garden (I wish I could get one but $$ doesn't permit )
what I do is I let my 2 monkeys run free in the living room for exercise and space. I also bring shushu to walk daily. Oh yah, once you allow them inside the house, they won't do well outside anymore. Shushu will scratch my door and bark like crazy if i leave him at the porch area too long.

I bought shushu to the vet this evening to have a look at his paw. There is still some swelling and as it has not subside after a week - I am getting a bit paranoia about it. The good news is the swelling is from some pus at the wound ( vet said something like "pimple"). He clean the wound and put some ointment on it and assure me that it will clear up in no time soon....

While at the vet there, he ask me whether i would like to get another GR as a pet.
He has one male GR about 2 years old for adoption, which has been abandoned by his owner. Something bit / injured the GR at the testicle there until it swell. (I think Ben has similar case). As the owner neglected the poor fella, he never realised it until the swelling become extremely bad. By the time it reaches the hand of the vet, removing the testicle aka neutering was the only way to save its life. However, when the owner hear about the surgery, he/she just abandon the poor fella at the vet there. The vet decided to keep him, performed the neutering process and he is now on his way to recovery. Once he recover fully, the vet will put him up for adoption and he is looking a dog lover and a good owner to take care of the fella.

I have a look at the GR - very handsome, large head and soulful eyes.
He barked at me initially - i think he is very a bit nervous with people. However, he quiet down when i talk softly to him and give him my hand to sniff. He allow me to pat him and scratch his ears too. He even try to squeeze his nose through the grille to get close to me and look very sad when i leave. i notice that there are signs of neglect by the previous owner. I can feel large chumps of matted fur at the ears area as the fella has not been groomed properly. The nails are long and the toes a bit spayed - signs that he is kept in the cage for long hours and not exercised properly.

I am very very tempted to adopt him. If I have not gotten kero, I would have immediately shouted yes to the vet. However, 2 dogs is my maximun quota set by my sister whom I am sharing the house with. She threatened to kick us ( my furkids and i ) out of the house if I dare to get one more dog in. Sigh, I am still very tempted now....I keep seeing the poor dog face.

What i am angry is the behaviour of the previous owner ...how could he/she just abandon the poor fella? It is not life threatening desease...neutering can easily save the fella. Is it because of the $$? Neutering is not that expensive also. What is the reason? I am wondering now whether the dog is being kept for breeding purposes (stud dog) and once it is neutered, it serve no purposes and hence there is no reason to keep it anymore. Doesn't the owner feel ANYTHING for his/her dog????? He/she has been living with the dog for 2 years!
