Hi guys,

sharing my first 3D render here.

[attachmentid=5191182]

[attachmentid=5191183]

Rendered using Maya Vray.

Please advice which field should I go with if I'm interested in rendering still image.
And also is it necessary to pick up 3DS MAX if I'm going for Interior design?
*
wow, respect you guys work. may I ask what field is your work? looks like it can be used for advertising.
and what computer you guys use for this?

i myself have been playing around with SketchUp only and a little bit of 3Ds max on my friends desktop.

wow good work here. I do 3d also but for engineering without using rendering. Maybe I need to study rendering features in the software. It worth it.

UE4 - Barcelona Pavilion (WIP)

Most of em are stock material, some are textures imported to and from sketchup.
Testing the workflow from Sketchup > UE4 without UV mapping/texturing, so default lightmass setting etc in UE4.

Your works are amazing, guys! I want to learn 3D design too. Where should I start?
*
It depends on what direction of design that you wanna make.
As for me (architecture), I started with AutoCAD, modeled with Sketchup, and finally using 3rd party programs/plugins for render. Different with character modelling and rigging, you better off straight to 3ds Max even though it has a pretty high learning curve. It will pay off for a long run.

Update for Barcelona Pavilion (still WIP).

UE4 is quite an attractive platform and thought about learning it myself so can do those cool live-walktrough.
However with the recent release of Skatter for Sketchup, it actually makes me want to stay more in Sketchup.
Plus, the thought of UV mapping every assets we have to port it to UE4... nightmare... rclxub.gif

The trend nowadays tends toward interactive presentation. UE4 saw that and make it free.
I personally like Lumion cuz of fastest and easiest tool of all, but now I'm migrating to UE4 as rendering clips in Lumion takes lot of time and not really rendered "real-time".

As for UV mapping, its so easy after you get the hang of it. Heck, you can even directly export object to UE4 if your model is super clean. Texturing and creating more detailed polys are much harder than that, cuz sketchup low poly made me urgh, end up have to smooth and subdivide in blender sweat.gif

the material editor is almost like blender right?
is it a good idea to use internal materiel editor?
or better import from 3ds max or blender?

Thanks~
Since I just started recently, I can only help a little bit. Btw I used to work with vray mat so I couldn't say the same with blender. But from what read and tested, basic flat mat is easier to use UE4 own contents since the templates are there, just need to replace texture n uvs. But for complicated object such as curtains, cloth, carpets etc or with tesselation are better baked 1st hand before imported to UE4. Seems like UE4 handle two sided/thin object so bad with its own editor. 3ds Max works like a charm with nvidia gamework support for physx.

...and I need more cores. 12 isn't enough. sad.gif
