I am going next April 2012. I just wondering i have to purchase JR pass or not if the places i planned to go are Tokyo, Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka. Worth to have it if i am going to those places?

By the way, 1 day is sufficient to go Disneyland & Disneysea or not?

Thank you very much!! notworthy.gif

How many days will you be there?

For Disney, you'd need to allocate 1 full day for each park.

How much should I budget for a trip to Tokyo, Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka? Is it safe now after the Nuclear Reactor meltdown earlier this year?

I would suggest taking the Shinkansen tongue.gif

But if you're on low budget, check out the overnight bus services from Tokyo. Good to sleep over and reach your destination the next morning.

Osaka will be cheaper gua. But if u go Osaka u can go kyoto, where u can really see the jap culture. Tokyo is a metro city. I went to tokyo this early march where tsunami happened, and came back with additional flight.
I manage to get the rm174 one way, w/o taxes. 2 person round trio come to 1k plus some meals and begs come to 1.4k.
Can't believe 2 years berturut-turut go japan. Never think of going other place, but japan is just a wonderful place to visit.

5 days will not enough better make it 7 days or more. Since u travel so far better spend more time. Maybe this time u visit most of the place in osaka then next time u can go tokyo or else where. The flight actually is tiring, u will need rest next day then only got energy continue. Free and easy compare tour, u can't cover much place bcoz u need walk and take transport. While those tour just pick and go with tour bus.
I prefer free easy u can move around freely and enjoy the society there. U eat wat u like along the way, see what u like while u go around. Of course u will spend more time. For me, going to oversea country, is not just see but to feel the society and the environment there. If u go tour is more like stop see stop see. U don't have the chances to mix around with ppl there, taking public transport, asking ppl around for direction, looking for signboard, walking around. Sometimes u might sesat rclxub.gif . haha.... I sesat once at the tokyo tower where they are having renovation. My bust stopped there looking for the subway..... jln jln around around. But great experience. That reason we paid for the experience. Best is once in the life time is the earth quake. Man... thank god most of ppl are safe at tokyo.
Tried not to crash with the golden week. I was mistakenly choose on the 5th may where they still having their golden week until sunday, 7th may. But after that should be ok. Nvm feel the sardine effect...

Hi everyone.

I'll be travelling to tokyo on January via airasia (landing in haneda).

For accomodation, I'm looking for guesthouses around tokyo. I'm looking for those that provide transportation from and to the airport, and within walking distance to public transports.

Anyone had experiences in staying in guesthouses? Care to share some tips on looking for one?

Give you a general idea (exchange rate now 41):

Tokyo-Kyoto (Return bullet train ticket) = JPY 26,440
Narita Airport-Tokyo (Return express train) = JPY 5,880
Above total = JPY 32,320

Japan Rail Pass 7 Days ordinary class = JPY 28,300, see the difference?

If Golden Week, yes please follow Regentcid's advice. All transportation modes will be very busy, especially land. Though IMHO, one just wasting money visiting during that period, unless you're hardcore weaboo laugh.gif
