Thanks for tip. For 1Gbps user Asus AX6000 Tuf gaming is good ? I'm eyeing for goof Asus router since lot of functions compared to my trustworthy TP Link routers
*
Excellent CPU and produce very little heat compare to Broadcom or Qualcomm.

Hi, currently I got Skyworth GN630V combo router, may I know why the buffer bloat for upload latency is higher than download? Isn't that the buffer bloat for Fibre Optics should be lower on both download and upload?

user posted image
*
Bufferbloat got more to do with QoS and congestion control at the router. That's why I recommend to turn the GN630V to bridge mode and use your own router.

Bad congestion control can lead to ping spike, laggy WiFi calls.

This is an example of a Unifi 500Mbps speedtest over WiFi with a good router.

Hi guys, planning to downgrade my current fibre plan with maxis 300 mbps RM129/month when contract ends in December 2024 to Unifi RM89/month 100 mbps for savings.

May I know what is the process for switching fibre provider?

Is there any better budget deals than RM89/month 100 mbps unifi?
*
Just apply at any TM agent and call Maxis Fiber for termination.

But, Maxis retention team is amazing and they can always price match and come out with super good offer.

1gbps user with black dlink combo (set to bridge mode) + asus ax3000 router. having issue with speed drop to only 200download/100upload (both lan and wifi also same speed) + tested with laptop with wifi6E. Have to keep restarting modem to get the usual speed after 2/3 hours everytime.

Anyone experience similar issue ? any solution to this? thanks.
*
Already few users reporting same problem

The only solution is to use back your old modem and live with 940Mbps for now

Assuming I don't care if I can reach 1 or 2Gbps or not. If TM provide combo router for 2Gbps, can I request the technician on the spot to set it to bridge mode and make the PPPoE dial-up from my Sophos XG-210?

Or need to do it like TIME, call them to change it to bridge mode?
*
TM technical team are mostly outsourced contractors these days

Most of them have very limited IT knowledge and won't do anything that's out of their SOP

You can try asking but they will probably reject or they straight up have zero idea what you are talking about

If that's the case. Possible to call TM to change it? Or we can change it ourselves depends on which model they provide?

You will need to do it yourself.

Guys....just want to ask any1 have same experience as me....recently TM Unifi just help me upgrade to 1Gbps from 800Mbps with no extra charges (of course bond 2 years again lar)......Then the technician comes & inform need to change new router which I saw is D-Link punya....

Since then....I have encounter frequent auto disconnect issue & sometimes will not auto connect back......I try to manual connect also cannot even though I can detect the SSID is there in my wireless searching....MUST restart router only can reconnect back the internet....This problem already happen >10x since the upgrade data (Around 1mths now).....This Sunday they will send technician to check but I doubt they can detect anything since it's happen randomly and if on the good day, basically cannot detect any abnormal.....

Just wonder any1 encounter same problem & have solution for it....Thx
*
You are not the first one with this problem, been a lot of other users facing this slowdown and stability problem

Change to the old modem and use your own router should fix it

having frequent disconnect/reconnect issue for the past week. Port reset by TM didn't do anything. like every day will have sudden disconnect at random intervals, sometimes stable for hours or just few minutes. Router didn't overheat, didn't reboot itself, fibre cable looks fine but I asked TM to send their tech anyway tomorrow to just double check the fibre & maybe BTU.

im not very good at troubleshooting but looking at the logs below from my router, i would think it's on TM side that's the issue is. it's on the PPPoE session ('handshakes' i guess? is it the right word for it idk), like maybe this TM's device ibse04.wmu here just dropped the session, then unable to reach my router or not responding to my router's PPP initialization.
though I've no idea how to explain to the tech. Not exactly sure what device ibse04.wmu is, but from the logs i would hazard to guess it's the PPoE peer for my location. my networking skill is rusty.

The truth is, I doubt MCMC can do much

blacktubi had their experience fighting with them regarding Maxis 1Gbps

Though, 940Mbps is the limit for Gigabit Ethernet
So, if you're not using 2.5Gbps Ethernet, 940Mbps is expected
*
Well, TM is not doing anything wrong. MCMC rules is 90%.

Even for UnifiBiz they won't care as long as it's 90% since there's not really a SLA.

is normal, because TM limiting the traffic from others causing congestion.

all local ISP dont have peering with TM and all traffic are exchanging at MYIX

If BGP HE is accurate, both Maxis and TIME peers with TM.

use other DNS servers . so many to choose from.
*
They can just apply this to all DNS eventually

Easiest way is to enable secure DNS in chrome settings, there's something similar on every major browsers

Alternatively, get a router that support DNS over TLS. This will apply to all devices

Or, just use a VPN

This will bypass the sinar project block?
Can we reuse Google/Cloudflare DNS afterwards?
*
Yes DoT will prevent the DNS interception by the ISP/regulators. ASUS router for example will let you to use any DNS server that support DoT.

I believe most if not all major public DNS providers support DoT these days.

However, there's a minor performance hit on DNS resolving performance once DoT is enabled. It's mostly unnoticeable on a high-end ASUS router (BCM4908 and above).

More info about this on ASUS router: https://www.asus.com/my/support/faq/1051428/

actually no, i remember sometime in may and june TM did a testing
basically they just block port 853 and dot was not working anymore

dot over port 443 is still working but only only a few test server
*
They can implement a blanket block on both DoT and DoH for public DNS if they want. But for now, DoT works.

If they enforce a strict block, just get a cloud instance in SG for $5 a month and VPN everything there.

Any recommended model to upgrade.

Currently using TP-Link Deco X20 v1.

The WiFi speed is slow even beside the deco.

Estimate 150 - 300 Mbps

Currently plan 800Mbps and soon upgrade to 1Gbps

ZenWiFi ET12 if you serious about getting full WiFi speed on whole home

Asus brand better then TP-Link ? I remember back old days using Asus Router very fast spoiled

If you prefer TP-Link, you will need the Deco BE85 for 1Gbps consistently on mesh node coverage.

Fast WiFi doesn't come cheap.

Yes agreed, fast wifi doesn't come cheap.

If compare Asus and TP-Link high end model which is better ?
Coverage estimate 10k sf
*
10k sqft probably need 3 pack to have sufficient coverage.

Both have their pros and cons. Specs wise, the Deco BE85 is much faster due to WiFi 7 and it's future proof. Deco roaming is always better too.

Not sure if you notice this but Deco on wireless backhaul take a few seconds to reach full WiFi speed, quite obvious on speedtest.

ET12 will reach the 900+Mbps peak speed the moment you run speedtest. It is better at burst performance which is more relevant to my day-to-day usage of browsing or scrolling things quickly.

May I know the reason why I use stock Skyworth router, the upload latency only 1ms and if I change to Asus Router, the upload latency went up to 100ms++? The download latency is fine for both but upload latency is huge different. Any Asus router settings need to adjust to lower down the latency for upload?
*
If you are not using PPPOE mode on your ASUS router, that means you are still using the router mode on the Skyworth combo router.

Ideally you should change that unit to bridge mode and setup PPPOE on your ASUS Router.

If not, you are still bottlenecked by the slow CPU on the Skyworth combo router.

PPPOE.
PPPOE and Skyworth set to Bridge Mode.

Even I use my ZTE modem + Asus Router. The upload latency also went up.
*
Try to enable AdaptiveQoS in your settings and set your upload speed and download speed properly.

Unless you're lucky else it's just 900++

And, 60Mbps isn't that much of a difference on a 940Mbps connection

Just use the old modem for a more stable connection
