Here you go, this should explanation better from Unker comment.

I think one reason why Proton S70 need to have that Horsepower and Torque --> mainly because the car weight is >1,300 KG

No Perodua Bezza ?

Adjacent to the Akashi Kikai plant at Sendayan, Perodua and Daihatsu are investing a further RM600 million to set up a new engine plant co-owned in 49:51 equity between the two companies.

On 7 March 2012, Akashi Kikai Co Ltd of Japan entered into an agreement with Negeri Sembilan’s Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and developer BSS Development Sdn Bhd; to acquire land from Negeri Sembilan to construct the E-AT plant.

The land area acquired in total is 113,000 square meters and the plant’s initial size would be approximately 13,000 square metres, while the plant production capability is 200,000 units per year

“Akashi Kikai Industry (Malaysia) started a small volume production on March 3 last year, exactly 2 years after the signing. It (the new plant) expanded the production volume from last summer (August) and achieved stable and full-capacity production status this year,” Mr Noriyoshi Matsushita, President of Akashi Kikai Industry Co Ltd of Japan said at the launch.

“During this period, we supplied more than 180,000 units of E-AT to Perodua. We also started the production of manual transmissions (at the request of Perodua),” he added.

Newly established Akashi Kikai Industry (M) Sdn. Bhd. is an automotive joint venture between Akashi-Kikai Industry Co., Ltd (JAPAN), Daihatsu Motor Co. Ltd (JAPAN) and Perodua Auto Corporation Sdn. Bhd.

Our new “Electronic Control Automatic Transmission” plant located in Sendayan Tech Valley, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan will start operations from 2013.

The production of Automatic Transmissions for today’s car requires highly advanced manufacturing technologies.

Another thing that i think you maybe overlooked...

Geely have their own BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) platform.....

This BMA is B-Segment platform...

and they apply this BMA in Geely Emgrand....but the wheelbase is 2650mm not 2627mm in proton s70...

https://global.geely.com/en/models/emgrand

Unker also check the proton S70 brochure....proton didn't specifically mentioned they use BMA in S70...

So unker think proton S70 probably not built on BMA platform...

Below is the BMA platform....

From sources emgrand/s70 just piggyback on the name of BMA, actually still using FE platform aka modified from Toyota MC/old corolla platform

BMA is just the fancy name of FE platform that have been used since 2009 on geely emgrand ec7 (1st gen)

If know Chinese and do some research on x50 (BMA) aka binyue as well as others platform mates binrui etc, actually you can see that BMA platform is a bit sus one.

BMA is just blanket for geely 3.0 subcompact/compact models (2016-2020 era). BMA can also consist of older FE platform spiced up under BMA name like binrui sedan (that was originally the base for s70 before switching to emgrand 4th gen middle of development). Binrui sedan was also delayed in development cycle (suppose to launch around 2016 but ended up launched in 2018 just before binyue x50)

If you curious about FE platform. It was evolution of FC platform from 2006 (yuan Jin sedan , basically carbon copy of corolla Altis e120), then FE debuts in 2009 on original EC7 emgrand.
NL platform on boyue (1st gen) aka x70 was a development from geely gleagle gx7, which was RAV4 XA30 carbon copy . The sideways fuel tank layout was carried over to boyue aka x70
CV platform (jiaji, haoyue, x90) is yet another development from NL platform, basically stretched version of NL platform

S70 dimensions seems shrink from emgrand. Some black magic or maybe either party faked the spec?

Impossible to see the localized version shrinking from OG version. It's more common for other way around (lengthen the dimensions is easier to do then shrinking)

How proton measures the dimensions actually until got different from donor car? Idk, black magic?

china version use CVT 8-speed....malaysia Proton S70 use DCT...hahaha

CVT is better...DCT is a nightmare if the DCT oil-leak and noise....not yet say the crunky feel during traffic jam

yea....should go and give it a test...but somehow owning a car is kind of a long term for many people....so it is more than just "Feel good" when purchase...

We all know the way to do sales nowadays - is EXPERIENCE and make customer 冲动. a bit...then they will made their decision to buy

In 2016 when geely partnership with proton (took over 49% stack) proton licensed 3 platforms from geely (NL, BMA and CV)

NL boyue is ended up as x70
BMA binyue is ended up as x50

However for larger 7 seater based on CV platform (x90) originally wanted to based on jiaji, but due to changing market conditions, proton swapped the base to haoyue middle of development

For the sedan that follows above 3 SUVs models, originally wanted to based on FE6/A06 binrui, but as I said also swapped the base to emgrand 4th gen due to various reasons. Binrui was found out not viable for LHD to RHD converting development as it was developed way before the geely-proton deal. Instead geely and proton opened yet another similar project to replace emgrand ec7 and preve of respective makes called SS11 that ended up as S70. Logically speaking, sharing same BMA platform with binyue/x50 is more efficient for SS11/S70 development and manufacturing. While SS11 for china was to be affordable entry sedan that directly replace both emgrand ec7 and yuanjing (corolla Altis clone), so different power train was being used for cost cutting measure (also no Adas and lower equipment level)

S70 for Malaysia was to eventually replace Preve that discontinued in 2020. So S70 undergone more localisation for ride and handling and made a bit more upmarket for equipment level. Yet to save costs it shares same power train with X50 (1.5 3g15t and dct) because localisation has been done for such power train.

Of course if already share the same power train, also more logical to share same BMA platform as X50 right ?

Why proton didn't say BMA so loudly? Well maybe their marketing decision is more to sell on value (price per performance) rather than selling technology that we already known since 2020 X50

https://www.automachi.com/2023/11/why-proto...t-geely-binrui/

Edit to add source and fix autocorrect typo
