To sinplify things.

U have two meter. One for energy consumed. One for solar generated energy.

(Energy consumed) - (energy generated) = nett difference.

If u generated more than u consumed. The extra will carry forward to next month and so forth. But it will be reset beginning of each year (31st December) .

So if u r away for the last 3 months of the year, all energy generated will be wasted?

AFAIK, not worth it if your TNB bill is <RM170 per month, especially if it's RM60 per month.

Eg a 7.2kW solar PV system costs about RM24k to install, and will mostly generate about RM300 worth of electricity (= about 700 kWh) per month. If your TNB bill is RM300 per month, you pay nothing to TNB = you save RM300 per month or RM3,600 per year.
....... So, the ROI is about 7 years if your TNB bill is RM300 or more per month, ie RM24,000/RM3,600 = 6.7 years = worth it.

If your TNB bill is RM60 per month (= RM720 per year), the ROI is about 33 years, ie RM24,000/RM720 = 33.3 years = not worth it.

Eg a 4kW solar PV system costs about RM16k to install, and will mostly generate about 400kWh of electricity per month = RM170 TNB bill per month = saves RM2,040 per year.
....... So, ROI is about 7.8 years, ie RM16,000/RM2,040.

If your monthly TNB bill is RM60 per month (= RM720 per year), the ROI is 22.2 years, ie RM16,000/RM720.


Seems, this is mostly a T20 problem, same like buying the more expensive EV cars (>RM100k).

No, NEM Rakyat has a clause that says must be mounted on roof top!
1 guy already offering 9.5k before the 2k rebate for 2.3kW but am not going to share here because many of us feel he LCLY.
2kW inverter average about +-200kW/month based on KV but north will be slightly better!

Why must be on the roof?

My system has been running since 2017. No issues. Call in the inspection and cleaning team every couple of years, that's all. A few hundred ringgit is all.

Why don't you called SEDA tomorrow? 1001 reasons but I think should be safety, a small 6x450W string will total 2700W or more at it's peak.

All excess energy will be exported to grid which will be recorded in ur tnb bill, must use within 1 yr
Tnb wont give cash money for the energy, only recorded as a credit. After 1 yr, credit back to zero.
