the trend now is that pro series is always the best selling series than pure no series.

so technically the existing of pure no series are for those who really have budget constraints or those really do not need pro functions and to push ppl to go for pro series.

technically no one is interested in pure no series any more...

Even if there is, it makes sense to get the older versions due to the price difference. The 15/15 Plus price is too awkwardly positioned - if you can get a 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max now before they run out of stock it’ll make more sense!

After all, it’s the same chipset and you get more benefits like the higher refresh rate screen, the telephoto lens, the stainless steel frame…

Yes, indeed 14 pro series better buy than 15 except usb-c port is missing.

Still recon anyone to go straight to 15 pro is budget is not a constraint.

Apple is out of their mind to launch an iPhone 15 without promotion at such price again! Please don't buy the phone guys. Go for PRO or android lol...

Hot take/unpopular opinion:

If you're upgrading from iPhone 12 Pro or older, just get standard 15/15 Plus instead of Pro models. You'll already be satisfied, plus the weight of 15/15 Plus still cheaper than Pro series whilst 15/15 Plus also now have ceramic shield with the new frosted matte glass back.

Even standard models now have 2x optical zoom (using Apple's advertising terms here). And the screen of 15/15 Plus is a significant improvement from 12 Pro already.

iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 15 comparison:

iPhone 12 Pro Max vs iPhone 15 Plus comparison:
https://www.apple.com/my/iphone/compare/?mo...,iphone-15-plus

A lot of 15 Pro exclusive features this year are nice to haves, but not really life-changing. If you are currently on iPhone 13 Pro or later, then no motivation to upgrade this year at all.

If your current iPhone is either iPhone 14 or older, or iPhone 12 Pro or older? Then it's not a deal breaker, because your eyes are used to 60Hz on these iPhones already.

In fact, iPhone 15/15 Plus has the same high quality peak brightness and Dolby Vision display as iPhone 15 Pro, the only difference seems to be the soft-locked 120Hz only available on 15 Pro.

The iPhone 15/15 Plus this year also got the same 48MP sensor as last year iPhone 14 Pro series, in addition to 2x optical quality zoom, the first optical quality 2x on iPhone non-Pro series.

I basically see iPhone 15/15 Plus as a better 14 Pro (except for 120Hz) since Apple managed to add even a optical zoom to a dual camera setup (main sensor+ultrawide)

Not really, spec wise 14 Pro and 15 Pro use the same camera
Main: 48MP, ƒ/1.78 aperture
Ultra Wide: 12MP, ƒ/2.2 aperture
Telephoto: 12MP, ƒ/2.8 aperture

while the 15 has a slightly different 48Mp camera with different aperture

Main: 48MP, ƒ/1.6 aperture
Ultra Wide: 12MP, ƒ/2.4 aperture

14 Pro still has the Always on display, 120Hz, longer rated battery life, Macro photography, night mode portrait,ProRaw, ProRes, LiDAR and etc

The only upside of 15 is probably the USB-C and software locked SmartHDR 5 and the new portrait feature.

15 vs 14 Pro upgrade for 12 Pro users or older? I would recommend 15 lah because overtime 15 can last longer with USB-C port and because of USB-C port, resale value of iPhone 15 long term is also better than 14 Pro.

Can't deny that 14 Pro has the better camera hardware but 15 has the latest marginally better camera software than 14 Pro (and much better than iPhone 14), like the new Smart Portrait depth info feature whereby you can adjust focus after you take a shot (for situations where autofocus didn't work or you were in a rush and want to adjust focus later).

One example showcased was when user taking a photo of her and her dog with the food on the table, the camera may have accidentally focused on food and blurred the user and the dog, but with Smart Portrait, iPhone 15 can change the focus back to her and her dog when editing the photo later, because depth info of the photo was also saved at the same time.

Anyways, back to iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15, which to buy? For general users, iPhone 15 is really enough (assuming your previous iPhone was iPhone 12 Pro or older). Save that money for maybe AirPods Pro 2nd Gen with USB C.

And for camera geeks, skip iPhone 14 Pro entirely since iPhone 15 Pro has a lot of meaningful upgrades that are important long term like USB 3 USB C and the better camera hardware, ProRes, ProRaw and all those high storage camera capabilities.

Each person has their own opinion then, to me if 14 Pro (heavily discounted right now) and 15 is about the same price at RM4.4k, then the 14 Pro is much more value for money and also same time superior even though it’s still on lightning port. All the other specs from: Always on display, 120Hz screen, better camera hardware are all quality day to day improvement.
Unless you absolutely want the USB-C and portrait of the 15 then go for the 15.

Apple still sell the 14, SE, normal AirPods 3/2, and several other items with lightning port, so it is not entirely dead yet. The whole iPhone user base right now is still lightning. And many general users don’t really care about the charging port, USB-C or lightning, as long it is small and provided in the box, and can charge their phone they are fine. In fact the USB-C transition is going to cost a lot confusion in existing iPhone user base who invested heavily in lightning. Like why their old cable suddenly cannot work etc. or why their husband/wife iPhone with lightning and yours is USB-C.

If they can top up to 5.5k for a 15 Pro then of course I’d recommend the 15 Pro cause it’s the latest and greatest. But for those budget conscious, the 14 Pro is still great.

Still stuck at 60Hz PovertyMotion in 2023. bangwall.gif

Doesn’t really affect me since I don’t plan to get any 15 variant, but I’m a huge fan of the iPad Mini and this kills any hope of a 120Hz display for it anytime soon. sad.gif
