but colours wise actually the iphone 15/15 plus looks not bad...
*
Wdym not bad? Literally best colours they released in years! ๐Ÿ˜

If the 15 Pro colours were the colours of Standard 15/Plus, I would definitely buy them in a heartbeat

Unfortunately, 15 Pro colours I don't like, and 15/15 Plus spec not good, so this year devices not attractive overall to me.

Hot take/unpopular opinion:

If you're upgrading from iPhone 12 Pro or older, just get standard 15/15 Plus instead of Pro models. You'll already be satisfied, plus the weight of 15/15 Plus still cheaper than Pro series whilst 15/15 Plus also now have ceramic shield with the new frosted matte glass back.

Even standard models now have 2x optical zoom (using Apple's advertising terms here). And the screen of 15/15 Plus is a significant improvement from 12 Pro already.

A lot of 15 Pro exclusive features this year are nice to haves, but not really life-changing. If you are currently on iPhone 13 Pro or later, then no motivation to upgrade this year at all.

Screen RR still at 60, not a deal breaker?
*
If your current iPhone is either iPhone 14 or older, or iPhone 12 Pro or older? Then it's not a deal breaker, because your eyes are used to 60Hz on these iPhones already.

In fact, iPhone 15/15 Plus has the same high quality peak brightness and Dolby Vision display as iPhone 15 Pro, the only difference seems to be the soft-locked 120Hz only available on 15 Pro.

The iPhone 15/15 Plus this year also got the same 48MP sensor as last year iPhone 14 Pro series, in addition to 2x optical quality zoom, the first optical quality 2x on iPhone non-Pro series.

I basically see iPhone 15/15 Plus as a better 14 Pro (except for 120Hz) since Apple managed to add even a optical zoom to a dual camera setup (main sensor+ultrawide)

Not really, spec wise 14 Pro and 15 Pro use the same camera
Main: 48MP, ฦ’/1.78 aperture
Ultra Wide: 12MP, ฦ’/2.2 aperture
Telephoto: 12MP, ฦ’/2.8 aperture

while the 15 has a slightly different 48Mp camera with different aperture

Main: 48MP, ฦ’/1.6 aperture
Ultra Wide: 12MP, ฦ’/2.4 aperture

14 Pro still has the Always on display, 120Hz, longer rated battery life, Macro photography, night mode portrait,ProRaw, ProRes, LiDAR and etc

The only upside of 15 is probably the USB-C and software locked SmartHDR 5 and the new portrait feature.
*
15 vs 14 Pro upgrade for 12 Pro users or older? I would recommend 15 lah because overtime 15 can last longer with USB-C port and because of USB-C port, resale value of iPhone 15 long term is also better than 14 Pro.

Can't deny that 14 Pro has the better camera hardware but 15 has the latest marginally better camera software than 14 Pro (and much better than iPhone 14), like the new Smart Portrait depth info feature whereby you can adjust focus after you take a shot (for situations where autofocus didn't work or you were in a rush and want to adjust focus later).

One example showcased was when user taking a photo of her and her dog with the food on the table, the camera may have accidentally focused on food and blurred the user and the dog, but with Smart Portrait, iPhone 15 can change the focus back to her and her dog when editing the photo later, because depth info of the photo was also saved at the same time.

Anyways, back to iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15, which to buy? For general users, iPhone 15 is really enough (assuming your previous iPhone was iPhone 12 Pro or older). Save that money for maybe AirPods Pro 2nd Gen with USB C.

And for camera geeks, skip iPhone 14 Pro entirely since iPhone 15 Pro has a lot of meaningful upgrades that are important long term like USB 3 USB C and the better camera hardware, ProRes, ProRaw and all those high storage camera capabilities.

This battery test results cements my decision to get the 15 Plus! Yay!

Great choice bro. For General users, the Pro Cameras are kinda over the top for general use, and something like battery life is more important.

In addition, this is 1st year that standard non-Pro iPhone get 2x optical quality zoom, so having 2x optical zoom camera puts it on par with iPhone 12 Pro telephoto with iPhone 15 series better main+ultrawide, which to be fair is already enough for General users. ๐Ÿ˜†

i dun think it is 2x optical zoom at all, iphone 15 does not have telephoto lens, the 2x zoom is just cropped image from the 48MP photos like how they did it for iphone pro series last year to add the 2x.
*
Oh I know, Apple is purposely calling it "optical 2x" zoom to show that it has significant upgrade for portraits, even if the device doesn't have a telephoto lens.

Just like iPhone 15 Pro Max doesn't have 7 telephoto lens, Apple still said that they implemented a 7-lens camera system on iPhone 15 Pro Max (implied through softwate)

Still "optical" quality 2x zoom is a big leap in camera performance for standard models

been thinking to replace my mom iphone 6 plus with either iphone 13 pro max or iphone 14 pro max , because she love to take a picture and short video plus already get used to iOS -- so i will check those iphone 14 pro max later onย  tongue.gif
*
Bro she's using iPhone 6 Plus and switching to Pro Max? The weight difference going to shock her for the Pro Max models.

My recommendation is either iPhone 14 Plus or iPhone 15 Plus, but more leaning to iPhone 15 Plus due to 15 Plus much improved camera and USB C.

A lot of elderly don't like using too heavy phones (from personal experience). But I also see that your mom already decided on a colour for 14 Pro Max so good luck to you ๐Ÿ‘

Standard non-Pro iPhone 15 photo taking is better than S23 Ultra in normal scenarios ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Holy shit

Suddenly PLUS way better than pro/max and became relevant back laugh.gif rclxms.gif

Dont know if APPLE deliberately nerf the plus or not hmm.gif icon_idea.gif
*
I won't say nerf Plus, more like 15 Pro Max too experimental with its experimental titanium build and experimental A17 Pro processor, which currently made the 15 Plus with A16, better battery life and aluminum build the better buy this year.

Though I doubt anyone with 15 Pro Max will regret their purchase, most probably they'll just charge the phone more often and put on a case for better protection.

And for anyone who waited out for reviews to come out, they know that 15 Plus is enticing buy this year ๐Ÿ‘€

imo 15 Plus in my eyes is like the best upgrade for users on the 12 Pro Max or older.

Hmmโ€ฆ I would still argue if you donโ€™t mind the lack of USB C port and the slightly heavier weight, the 14 Pro Max on discount would be a better option than the 15 Plus, but yeah, in terms of battery performance, itโ€™s hard to argue a case against the 15 Plus.
*
Yeah, the "slightly heavier weight" kills the Pro Max for me actually.

The 14 Pro Max (240g) vs the iPhone 15 Plus (201g) weight difference is like having another pack of AA battery in your pocket. ๐Ÿ˜…

And I want the bigger 6.7" screen but lighter weight body so iPhone 15 Plus seems like the best of both worlds in terms of size and ergonomics.
