The previous 601 expired dy after having fund times there so planning to do another trip end of the year

I got instant approval on my last round. Gonna apply next month and see.

I think they have an algorithm to pick out any applicants that holds malaysian passport and belong to certain age groups for further checking.

currently working in SG, assumed it was auto approval too, but nope, still received the request to submit further info almost immediately after my 601 submission.

Like you, i have a similar long term visa(albeit its the 491) lodged and sitting in their system. That itself should prove to them there is no incentive to overstay. Not sure why their system do not do any cross checks in the database.

Anyway, received my 601 grant couple days later after dumping the docs to them.

I submitted ETA application on 8th April and until today there is no update. Is the time frame normal? it's has been more than 2 week since last application?

Both the sales market and rental market are going crazy, especially Sydney. In some areas the queue to view units for rental is like people queuing up for concerts. Don't think it's gonna improve anytime soon that's why also dilemma if and when I get my 190

Melbourne square  by OSK now actively promoting from AUD$590 for 1 bedroom apartment (with blocked view ) and with skyline view can cost around AUD$700k.  And the 2 bedroom with skyline view cost AUD$1M

It is very true indeed. It's pretty easy to cover the basic necessities here in Malaysia and once those are covered, everything else really is depending on how one would live their lifestyle. The only reason I'm actively pursuing is only not to leave regrets at the later stage in my life - regretting for not pursuing something I've been wanting to try, for better or worse

Not gonna lie, but the potential downstep from T20 to M40 is indeed a scary one, but still doing everything I can in my capacity and play my cards to hopefully land at least a lateral move. Fingers crossed.
Yeah those backlogs are huge indeed, last I checked (in FB groups with agents and all) that they're still processing April 2023 backlogs. Lodgement after May 2023 should stumble as you said, and hopefully it'll be done before a complete year.

I travel to Aus quite often for the past 10+ years and almost every year also apply for ETA. But last 2 years also kena ask for supporting documents 

My mum who applied the same time as me got the 2nd eta without asking for documents.
