Hmm, yea maybe it's different for PR holders.

In NZ, PR holders can't use the autogates either  cry.gif We only get to go to the local immigration counter lol.
*
Side track a little bit… are you (I assume) still holding on to your NZ PR?

I heard for NZ, once you’re a PR, it’s for life unlike for Oz. Is that still true?

Don't you think the current Aussie ETA is more like a mini-visa?  laugh.gif
It's akin to a fake visa free access.
*
Sadly, from the sheer number of “additional documentation requested” that Malaysians are facing, it appears to be the case…

About 10 years ago, UK threatened to remove Malaysia's "visa free" (technically it's visa on arrival) status, but the Malaysian government appealed and they relented. It's not too bad now, as the visa abusers have reduced, and moved attention to Australia.

There is a risk Australia may remove Malaysia from the ETA list, they has already issued statements hinting at possible withdrawal.
*
Crap. If that happens, I would have to… oh, no. I won’t. The PR is still valid and attached to my passport. False alarm.

Is there still ABF officer stationed at the airport to check your credentials and ETA?
*
Usually that’s all electronic now. I can’t say about KLIA, but if you don’t have a valid visa attached to your passport, Changi won’t even let you board the flight.

funny thing, if u flying SQ they dont allow you to online check in, but Scoot on the other hand, ok though

I just came back from perth, my passport can't do the e-gate thing, dunno why, went to the normal counters, officers says its common, but the rest of my family members went thru the e-gate smoothly
*
Glitch on n the matrix haha. Hope you enjoyed your trip with your family! Did you fly SQ via Changi? And if so, did you make a detour to Les Amis hahaha?

Because the wages and currency difference is big enough to warrant the risk and trouble, and a reflection of how far Malaysia has lagged behind. The ETA is a loophole.

Of course many other countries are even further behind economically and would also love to also jump plane.

But they need the 600 visa pay $190, etc so that filtered most of them out.
*
I’ve never observed officers at the departures from Changi. Is this only for KLIA?

They are there at the boarding gates in Changi. Of course you will not see them, as you go through from the KF first class lounge straight to your seat in the aircraft.

OIC. Thanks for clarifying

I would think the visa should be pegged to your passport number, so as soon as you punch in the number into the check-in system, it should pick up your visa details.
*
That would have been my first thought too…

I give you my experience last year. Because of my KF name being different from my passport and visa name, I have to check in at the airport. They changed my surname to reflect my passport, but failed to delete my given name. I got my boarding pass with name "Tan Ah kow, Ah Kow".

At boarding, the system flagged again, because my boarding pass name is different from my visa name. (They knew before hand as they saw our boarding passes and asked us to stand aside and wait). The boarding agent then referred to an "officer", whom I realised is a DIBP person. She looked at our passports, made a call, and then approved my boarding. We were the last to board.

Btw, she looks like from the subcontinent.
*
I can’t believe SQ would cock up something as simple as our names.

And yes, I also notice that there’s plenty of these heroes from the subcontinent working in the airport at Kingsford Smith… esp in security roles.

it's an immediate move for me. I see no reason to delay.
Mainly due to my kiddo's education, and to kick start my aussie life/career asap. I am not a spring chicken anymore, the longer i wait the harder it is for me to adjust the new life and environment.
No doubt the initial transition period would be tough, might as well take the bitter medicine fast and get on with it.
*
Good luck bro. And while Perth is a bit far from Sydney it will definitely give me a reason to come pay a visit next time haha.

Already had issues when checking in on flights while I was in UK and Europe recently.  laugh.gif
I've learnt to always go early for flight check ins because there's definitely gonna be a delay due to our names.

IC is another issue. My name has a hyphen in it and passport doesn't allow hyphens. This was an issue when I tried to convert my Malaysian driver license into NZ driver license. They said it's not the same person because driver license and passport name does not match  sweat.gif
*
Because of a hyphen!?!?

How daft can this be?!

Wait till your passport is in the format of Anthony Loke Siew Fook, your drivers licence is in the format of Anthony Siew Fook Loke, your Medicare card is in the format of Anthony S Loke, your bank card is in the format of Anthony Loke, and you need to do a police check (for non-migration related purposes)
It depends on the country

In Australia hyphens can't be used for names

So you can't name your kid Jean-Pierre Bréhie

But hyphenated surnames are okay. Hence you get Mike Cannon-Brookes

Those who have hyphenated names and migrate to Australia, have very interesting experiences
*
It's already a bit of an issue when I had to verify my Medicare Provider Number one time to get new prescription pads printed. Couldn't do it online because of exactly the same issue you mentioned: passport & driver's licence discrepancy - although the way the names appear look the same, apparently the way the names were classified (ie first, middle, last names) were different.

Really smack my head moment.

Had to get the practice manager to help me sort it out manually. I told him to mass print my prescription pads so I won't have to bother him again, at least not for the next few years - so there's a whole carton of pads sitting in my garage storage at the moment.

Below are the reason given. I already attached all the document including my payslip epf statement, income tax BE form, asset I own, bank statement. Yet I was rejected

I have considered the evidence submitted in support of the applicant’s circumstances,
financial capacity and commitments in their country of residence.
Following due consideration of this evidence, I am not satisfied the applicant’s personal
circumstances are such that they have sufficient incentive to return to their country of
residence at the end of any stay in Australia.
After considering all the information provided with the application, I am not satisfied the
applicant meets the requirements of clause 601.212(a) or 601.212(b).

Geezus... honestly, that's quite an insulting reply. It's almost like they are insinuating that every Malaysian is a potential aeroplane jumper. Man, I'd be boiling if that happened to me...

Sorry I don't have any helpful hints on top of whatever else the others have said, but I can share that when I applied for a visitor's visa for my domestic helper to come over to Australia with us earlier this year, I submitted evidence of her employment (ie her employment contract with us), but also evidence of my bank savings in Australia as well as in Singapore. She got her visa within a week. It seems so random.

Good luck with your appeal or reapplication!

If your ETA is rejected, do you have to indicate that when the ask “have you ever had a visa application rejected”?

just because u have formal employment, family and mortgage doesn't mean u wont jump aeroplane..
u cud have quit ur job one week before travelling to jump aeroplane to earn money for your family and mortgage..

even travelling with your family there u could get rejected by immigration..
u can easily enter with ur wife and children then later they go back themselves..

basically it is up to the mood of the approving officer..
dont be surprised if u get rejected even though u earn 10k/month.. while u have 7k loan to pay and 2 kids to feed..

learnt this a decade ago while blowing water with an immigration agent/runner at the Australian embassy in KL.. waiting to apply for my australian TIN
*
Sorry, what is an Australian TIN please? Noobie here, thanks.

you intend to go for business training but wanna apply for tourist visa? that’s already wrong my friend. even if you got your visa, they will still stop you there and deport you if they find out you’re there for work.

You beat me to the post…. But perhaps he won’t be paid in Australia for that training session, and that may be acceptable?
