Now, students need to front up RM100,000 to prove that they’re not going to jump aeroplane….. I think it’s a real possibility that we may have further scrutiny on the ETA application moving forward….

I definitely am interested in stargazing. I was initially planning to do it during my Great Ocean Road @ Victoria trip with friend, but was abit tough as we had different priorities and since my friend was bringing me around I didn't want to trouble them! Still on my bucket list.
Thanks for the suggestions!! Haha I don't mind even if you're from the WA Tourism, gives me plenty of headstart already. I was struggling where to start.
*
Not say I want to kaypoh busybody, but have you decided on your destination yet, by any chance?

I'm headed back to HK to visit family (again) so if you're still thinking of HK as opposed to Perth, you could lemme know what you're keen on doing and I can ask my family for suggestions smile.gif

Yeah, definitely double whammy.

Frequent Malaysians Aeroplane Jumper + Plenty of Student Visa Abusers from Lower-Income Asia Region = more scrutiny for everyone
Haven't decided yet - plans might get distorted as Co suddenly announced some huge projects so I don't think I could take any time off in next 6 months  rclxub.gif  cry.gif

Oh dear... but, your visa is already approved and the clock is ticking!

Bought ticket to Perth on 19/4 to depart 5/5. Applied ETA on 20/4.Adults got the ETA granted luckily on 3/5 but the kids got theirs approved instantly. Really a scary experience and already prepared to burn tickets.

Congrats and enjoy your holiday… maybe next time book tix only after ETA is approved to save on unwanted heart attacks haha

For payslips that is in Malay, any idea who is authorised to do a translation?
*
Aussie high Commissioner staff, or commissioner of oaths or public notary should be a safe bet. In Australia, any one of a list of professions which include doctors, lawyers, Justice of Peace, teachers etc can also do the trick, but only sighting and certifying true copies, not for translation.

Is this for the ETA (subclass 601)? Are they asking for EPF statements now? Or are you submitting on your own accord?
*
I suspect he is just being pre-emptive.

This so-called ETA is becoming more and more of a charade.

Yes, for ETA. One of the items listed as proof of financial standing is superannuation (which is EPF in Malaysia)

Wow… that’s really digging into our financial history

It still got approved  smile.gif
I know right? I wasn't too comfortable to submit my EPF statement but what to do?
*
Not only that, I find it distasteful that they are almost labelling every Malaysian as guilty of plane jumping until proven otherwise…

I guess we have our fruit picking illegal overstayers to thank for this.

Well that's the most reliable piece of paper proofing employment, a true filter for reasons to return to home country (in a way)

I say, right move and probably DHA can make do omitting all other submittals ie payslips, co letter, co leave confirmation etc
*
Food for thought - what about those Chinaman companies that declare directorship and dividends post tax? Their EPFs might be measly or non existent but their wallets are bursting… and they are fat cats … so a bit hard to hop like a kangaroo and jump planes hahaha

Well, one segment to each.

EPF is manly for those under employment which I believe is the largest segment. It's statement is self explanatory to many other docs

Those you mentioned can always substantiate the likes of tax doc, audit, DHA also accept any form of assets declaration in your home country ie fd print-out etc etc

My niece ape pun taklak, just submitted 3 docs. 1)her current local postgraduate admission w/ next semester date 2)letter of invite 3)a small saving acc balance as her source of travel expenses.

DHA just wants to be convinced of 'reasons to return' to your home country

Your niece got secret weapon… uncle is a PR hahaha

It is still better than the visa subclass 600 process

Go and talk to people holding passports from the other ASEAN countries on what they need to do for a subclass 600 to visit Australia as a tourist

But can you fault Australia when Malaysian's abuse the system?
*
Actually I helped my helper apply for a 600 Visa and that approved after 3 days

The information required to be submitted for a 600 vs a 601 pulled for additional processing for Malaysian holders, compare the 2.

Also the cost of a 601 vs 600.
*
Yeah, but at least the processing time (at least for my helper who really didn’t have an option for an ETA) was determinable and didn’t require further input.

Well nothing stopping Malaysian passport holders applying for a 600 if the ETA is so variable
*
Yeah. I think the way to go if you’re desperate for an early reply is the 600 although that’s a lot more expensive. At least that one dispenses with the pretence and asks for all documents straight up

Have you decided on where you’re going yet?

I got my approval 2 days after submitting all the docs. I noticed that the dept of home affairs officer issuing the the approval has an unmistakably Malaysian name. Maybe an ex-Malaysian now working for the Aussie Govt

based on what u share i think its relevant as we are only there for a site visit and max we will make some general business enquiries to understand our overseas business operation.
*
Actually frankly speaking, as long as you won’t be paid locally, you can use your visitor visa (eg ETA) and you won’t be in breach, IINM.
