"During the Asus Eee PC announcements in Germany and Austria last week the German Asus press representative Holger Schmidt made a statement to a press agency called pressetext that the Asus 8G would come with a larger 10 inch display." Common sense. Will a 10 inch EeePC still reside in the economically affordable scale of point or will it be just another 10incher? This line of reasoning is what compelled me into getting the present 4Gb version. Getting the 8Gb version will mean jacked up price from the present RM1299 to a price up to and including RM2000. While im not short of cash or anything at the moment, i could financially cope with the 8Gb , hell, even the 10incher. But if you do it by Asus's philosophy, which includes affordablity in this case, all these criterias come to mind.
In short, buy only what you need, not what you want. I've already a Macbook, and going 10incher for this defeats the purpose of me getting the EeePC for portability. I've lived with the 4.5inch screen size of Vaio UX all this while, so getting the EeePC is an upgrade in screen real estate for me. The processor speed is a downgrade for me,when you consider it clockspeed-by-clockspeed, but im running the EeePC on a different platform altogether, on a different OS where clockspeed may not necessarily means much.
It all comes to what you intend to do wit this little marvel. If you're using it as your primary notebook, then you will be in trouble, and most definitely be disappointed. Going 10incher to the EeePC 1001 is a waste for me since this means sacrificing its key advantage in portability. The next reason why im inclined to accept the diminutive aspects of the EeePC, both specs and sizewise, is that i treat it as what it is intended, and nothing more. In fact, im excited about going back into dabbling with Linux, and not back to the bloatware (however trimmed down it would be) that is Windows. I want this thing to instant ON (XP? Good luck on that!), fast boot up, snappy response, and do what it was advertised to do without any side effects. Asus may say it is also compatible to run with WinXP, but not mentioning how pleasant it would be.
Life is about challenges, and going for the familiar = routine and boring to me. To each his or her own i guess, but going about at how good the responses were by users on the preinstalled Xandros, i cant wait to experience this myself.
Maybe when im really really bored, and want to submit myself to self-flaggelation and torture, i would consider going into the mess that is WinXP, but until then, im running this baby AS IT IS INTENDED.

well, i think the other way. it could be Asus marketing idea to create a new market in mobile computing. Using EEEPC as the starting point, create a few segments eg: low, medium, high end... market of EEEPC.
for a bit high end segments eg: 8G 10", it can potentially grap the market of other branded ultraportable notebook, especially for business/sales/corporate execs.
low end models for new comers. medium end models for light users/students.
when think of this, we can imagine what is the purpose of Asus creates the 8G 10".

I would understand if you dont have any laptops right now and wants the best speced EeePC you can get. But a lot of those getting the EeePC are getting this as an option to carry around than their regular laptop. That way, if you get the highest speced, their present laptops are more or less redundant.

I see a lot of people are still thinking of the eeePC as a regular notebok for everyday use, it is NOT! If you buy one with that kind of thougt, you're going to be very disappointed!
