I just finished the PR formalities at the ICA building.

Service: Collection of IC (New SPR)

The staff said I can only book the date of collection of the IC from tomorrow onwards.
When I keyed in my IC number, the system said it could not be found.
Just ask for info:
If I enter the SG casino now, do I need to pay the Day Levy of S$ 150?

My S Pass is still with me.

Bro, pls don’t mempersiasuikan us Malaysian SPRs ok… you seem to be one of those who will still try to goyang goncang isi hingga penuh meletup RON95 type of chap (that is if you ever end up driving a S-plate car) hahahaha.

Just kidding la… congrats again

We are basically banggala for SG, hanging around hardwarezone doesn't make sense. We will be stigmatised as parasite. At the same time, hanging around lowyat makes us a traitor. Oh waii ..
*
I’ve been a PR for nearly 25-30 years but I will never be found in HWZ because I’m still a Malaysian born and bred.

Singapore has around 500,000 permanent residents. I think Malaysians make up at least 65 percent of them.
To calculate the number of Malaysians in Singapore if they make up at least 65% of the population of permanent residents (PRs):

Identify the total number of PRs: 500,000.

Calculate 65% of 500,000.

Number of Malaysians
=500,000×0.65
=325,000

So, there are at least 325,000 Malaysians among the permanent residents in Singapore.

And if only 1% of them joined lowyat, you’re looking at 3,000 of us mucking around here hahaha

Feels like home but not quiet home uh

Funny you should say that.

I’ve just handed in my citizenship application about a month and a bit after I renewed my Malaysian passport earlier in May!

But this is for practical reasons and purposes. The bulk of my wealth and properties are tied to Singapore. I live in a freehold landed property bought with special permission in joint name with my Singaporean (ex Malaysian) wife, and as I will be retiring to Sydney, I need to be a citizen in order to hold on to that landed property, in addition to keeping all my other investment properties in our names. Otherwise, I’ll have to remove my name from our matrimonial home.

I will still be a proud Malaysian in my heart though.

Quiet diff choice of retiring. Different leagues ey. Many would be thinking to bring back as much as possible SGD back to MY and retire there
*
Well, we are both PRs and we already have savings, houses and cars in Australia. I also have a small medical practice there. This was a plan 20 years in making.

All I have left in Malaysia is a Harimau bank account… in fact I would have to start from scratch if we were to retire in Malaysia.

Luckily I still count my commitments based on 2.80, like 10 years back. So now i have more money after convert.

And big thanks for having SGPR. I manage to get a 250% increase by job hopping for the last 5 years.
*
250% is really no joke. Congratulations bro.

Wow finally .. After years of deliberation lol

It wasn’t an easy decision, and I don’t mind telling you now that behind the scenes, I’ve written letters to appeal to keep my freehold landed property to SLA and even the Ministry of Law, but the law was very clear, with no room for negotiations as my property was bought after they enacted the ownership law on landed houses.

Strangely, after I made that decision, I’m very much at peace and I feel it’s the correct one.

I had a run in with home ownership issue when 1st matrimonial home was enbloc., which force us to to buy a replacement unit. However, as wife's name was linked to a HDB shophouse + living quarters, the living quarters were deemed a residential unit. Thus, any replacement unit was deemed to be 2nd residential prop. Thus ABSD will apply. Lots of back and forth with taxman but eventually, we managed to change the living quarters classification to commercial but with many caveats, such as cannot be rented out for residential purposes, must fulfill SCDF requirement, cannot apply for residential conversion in X years... Had to also give notice to our tenants that they can't stay there anymore since it's now a commercial unit.
*
I’m luckier than you then. We actually have a couple of shophouses (HDB types) with the 2nd floor being let out for residential use, but we were classified as commercial from the word go. The argument my lawyers put forth was that the shophouses were purchased without the use of CPF, ie, bought as a wholly commercial entity, and thus should be treated as such. We do not get residential rates on the property taxes - we pay commercial rates, but because of this classification, I was free to buy (with permission) our freehold landed property and keep the rest of our shophouses.

Wah.. you're definitely luckier as getting a commercial tenant for upper unit is tough. Took us a while but eventually managed to find one that's willing to rent both upper & lower units.  rclxub.gif
*
It’s pretty stupid … if your shophouse is anything like the ones we own, then you’ll know there isn’t a front entrance to the 2nd floor and the back entrance is the one that faces where they throw the trash and the trash collection is… how to let out to commercial entities that can only access the space via a back entrance!?

Yup, the exact same setup. The back entrance is both the entrance for upper unit and back door of lower unit bangwall.gif

Ah, we modified both our shophouses - they have separate back entrances, but the front entrance is still not accessible to the unit upstairs.

Another Malaysian PR has come out on Lowyat Forum.

May I know when you got your SG PR?
*
I told you, there are so many of us.

And soon, perhaps in a year, perhaps in 6 months, you’ll even have a Singaporean on these forums…. And I bet that won’t be the only one either.

Singapore Citizens should use HardwareZone Forum.

But if they want to know well about property in Malaysia or some politics or Malaysian stock investments or insurance, they should visit Lowyat Forum.
*
Why? You mean there’s a requirement that only Malaysians can use lowyat?

No.

But many museums charge SGD 10 or more for non-Singapore citizens or PRs.

I like Peranakan culture and I have about 15% Baba Nyonya ancestry.
