Every person will have a different opinion and perspective on their own journey. What works for one cannot be translated to another.

Personally, Singapore has been good to us and for that we are grateful.

You're right on this. Everyone thinks that coming over is better, but in fact it may not suit for everyone. Some may prefer a merit based environment, some may prefer to flatter others, some may prefer a laidback life.

Do what's best for yourself.

As a rough and rather approximate rule of thumb, migrants who have skills or knowledge or talents that fit well into what Singapore needs (eg finance, medicine, sciences, technology, pharmaceutical, engineering etc) to grease the gears of her economy and who don’t mind hard work for the promise of merit based reward regardless of creed, colour, religion or connections will do well and prosper in Singapore.

Low skilled, semi skilled workers who are here to fill a job that the locals shun, well, you’ll make a decent living, but your upsides are limited.

You can visit many national parks or the botanic gardens.

You can also visit Pulau Ubin, (Every year on Wesak Day, there is a free boat service from Singapore to Pulau Ubin and back due to the temple celebration.)

Pulau Kusu (which has a special temple celebration event for 30 days in the lunar month of September),

and St. John's Island.

There are many museums available as well, such as the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and the Peranakan Museum.

I agree, there are a lot of attractions that Singapore has to offer. Botanic Gardens, Gardens by the Bay, the treetops walk at MacPherson, the Ridges walk at Henderson, Pulau Ubin, the southern Islands, Sentosa, MBS, Sembawang Hot Springs, even Jewel at Changi, the back lanes and alleys along Arab Street, Lorong Haji, Prinsep Street ... so on and so forth.

But, unfortunately, you cannot escape or avoid the fact that Singapore is a very small island, and it's geared up for money, work, success ... and all the rest is secondary. Good place to make some money, carve out a career and be successful professionally and financially, but what are you going to do after that?

In your case, you've already mapped out your eventual return to Malaysia.

Many Singaporeans are jealous of the fact that Malaysians have that "backdoor" to retirement where the perception is the houses are bigger, the land is bigger, the air is fresher.

SG is small. Not being an outdoorsy person, I'm left with going shopping or perhaps drive to Ikea Tampines.  biggrin.gif

Talking about returning to MY, they changed rule again for MM2H. Doubt it matters to you or those of us not intending to retire back in MY.

*
Yes, I'm not planning to retire in Malaysia. I might apply later on, but perhaps as an ex-citizen (under Category 5) for wife and myself (if my Borang K gets accepted).

IT Sector. The thing is I only have the contract with revised salary. If payslip with latest pay is required, then i would need to wait for 3 more months.

My dilemma is should I email them with the new annex form, and risk my application being re-evaluate again from start, end up waiting for another few months.
*
As I said to plouffle789, the longer your application has NOT been rejected, the better chance of it being approved smile.gif

I just submitted mine this week.  Seems they have re-vamp the application since 26th June 2024.  Now, no more forms to download; everything is fill-up online and we just provide the employment letter from employer, no more annex A form. The rest is just upload photo, certs, payslip.

After submission, there are only options to ; Download submitted form (valid for a few days after submission), update Employment details and Withdraw submission.
*
Wow... simplified the process ... excellent move. Good luck with your application bro!

Updates:

PR application turned 4 lines on 1st July 2024.
Received email notification on 7th July that there had been changes to PR application status.
Logged into ICA and PR application changed to Approved!

Noticed that the PR IPA is dated 4th July, which means PR status is actually approved 4 days after 4 lines appeared.

The email from ICA actually gave me a heart attack as it only mentioned changes in status, without stating success or fail. The reason for that is my EP was cancelled on 7th, as i will be issued a new EP on 8th. For a moment I thought my PR application was rejected immediately because my EP was cancelled. That few minutes to login into ICA website I was feeling so anxious.

Congratulations bro!!!

Now i have some confusion too. I applied PR under company A, now I have just changed to company B, but to complete the formalities I require my employer letter stating I am employed with them, but i didnt update ICA on the change of employer.

It seems like ICA is pretty busy, my appointment with them is last day of the month. And the employer letter cant be more than 2 weeks from my appointment date. I probably should write email to them about this and see what is their reply on my case.

Unlikely you’ll be “dispossessed” on a technicality but a good idea to clarify

Soon this thread is going to easily exceed 50 or 100 pages.

As you can see, many Malaysians are still keen to secure Singapore PR status

Updates :

Managed to secure a slot last Friday for PR formalities.

Things to note :

1. Your passport size photo cannot be the same as the one you used for your PR application. ICA office asked me to get a new photo taken, there are few shops behind ICA building at residential HDB block.

2. They accept old EP card with previous employer. As my case was a bit special, PR approved while I was still employed by previous employer, and I was converted to permanent staff at employer B during the week of my PR formalities appointment. The EP card with new employer has not reached me yet, but ICA officer did not insist to wait for the new card before processing my PR formalities.

3. Another special case for me is that I was not required to undergo medical checkup with MOM for my pre-employment previously. So MOM did not have a record of my medical, i was asked to get a medical checkup at assigned clinic, near Aljunied MRT.

Finally got everything sorted out by 1 PM. Now waiting for IC collection.  icon_rolleyes.gif

Frankly speaking, I'm hoping I don't have to vote if my citizenship application comes through before I leave for Australia. I find it meaningless, since I can't relate to any of the parties here (or back in Malaysia, for that matter).

If I don’t vote, apparently, I get my name struck off the voters’ roll but that’s all.

Yeah, she converted decades ago and never felt any affinity for any political party. I think my cynicism must have rubbed off on her….

To me, all politicians are in it only for themselves….
