Been using UC7 225/45/17 to replace my ageing MC6 for a week now, done about 600km city drive plus outstation trip, all dry drive, sadly no rain while driving to test its wet performance. Initially want to test PS5 but price factor which is RM150 extra per piece prohibit me .

Overall satisfied with UC7 comfort and low noise which is my top priority albeit 600km rides isn't sufficient to gauge UC7 true capabilities. Hopefully I made a right choice and will serve me well until my next tyre change.

By the way I got it at RM400 per piece

Current car had Toyo TR1 all round, the front set have worned down to unusable level while the rear set still quite new over 95% thread.

Changed to UC7 and decided to follow the advice of putting the new tyres at the back and old tyres infront, what a bad mistake, the TR1 was so noisy infront compared to the silent UC7 at the back..

Hi bro,

So far how is your experience switching from mc6 to uc7?
I’m still deciding between both at the moment.

Thanks.

previous tyre toyo proxes r50. recommended pressure 210 front 200 rear. i pumped 230 front 220 rear because pumped lower felt underinflated and more wear on the sides, pumped higher felt harsh.

changed to UC7 and driven 600km to date. my review;
- pumped 220 front 210 rear to get the sweet spot.
- a bit louder than the toyo.
- slower acceleration at the traffic lights compared to the toyo
- dry grip, i feel toyo better
- cant comment on the wet grip yet since no rain until only yesterday
- the road surface dampening, UC7 much better than toyo. rough road surface and small holes, i felt like deep thud. not harsh bang.
- at 220 kpa, the sidewall didn't bulge under the car weight as much as the toyo at 230 kpa.
- fuel consumption on uc7 is higher maybe due to nore effort to accelerate. Fuel level drops faster than before on the same driving routes

i guess the less bulge due to the stronger sidewall. the slower acceleration maybe due to heavier weight of UC7. the UC7 is rated for Extra Load

I feel that UC7 is noisier than my previous Yokohama BlueEarth GT (AE51) in term of tyre cavity resonance. I can hear the high pitch echo ying ying sound when driving thru the brick road.

No difference in normal road and highway driving. 2000km tyre age at the point of writing

That's good to know. As the size of the tyres of my vehicle is high profile (205 60R16), performance tyres could not be considered so there is no opportunity to try pS4 or the likes. Having said that, similarly like you I find all my previous and current tyres to be perfectly adequate in terms of handling, braking and wet performance. I value both performance and noise/comfort so a good balance between the two is more important than outright performance. Also, I don't drive fast as if I'm racing in the race tracks so that plays a part as well.

From few reviews on YouTube, the UC6 was said to be not very lasting due to soft rubber. One video by a guy from Sarawak suggested that it only lasts 12,000 km driven at speeds between 30km/h to 100km/h. Not sure if true as it sounds a bit illogical. Having said that, I have made up my mind to go for the uc7 as my next tyres.

What's the threadwear rating for this tyres?

Hi guys, im writing this inside my car on a highway just to help others who’s looking to know how does it perform and not doing the same mistake as me.

Well.. with a bit of regret, Continental UC7 is the noisiest tyre i had ever used the sound rating for this one is like 9/10 noisiest. I used cpc2 before and thought that was noisy too but this new fella supposedly with new n improve thread is better but it is NOT!

My head hurts from the loud bass humming inside the car coming from the tyres, i thought only when driving slow it’s noisy… lo and behold! the faster u drive the worst they get. I cranked up my music also tak boleh counter weh!!!

Grip is good but doesnt compensate with the sound it produce! My biggest regret is this. RM320 for each too! Should have gotten me a bloody falken which is far more quieter!

TLDR: Everyday you drive the tyres will remind you of your disappointment in loud humming ambience almost mocking you to eternity.

Anyone knows if tyre shop allow for exchange?

you might want to check the wheel bearings before changing the tayar. damaged bearing can cause loud humming sound, it gets louder if you go faster.

if bearings are OK, tayar shop will consider exchange like trade in. meaning you will lose out a bit of $$$ even if your tayar is relatively new.

May I ask how is the UC7 on your car holding up? I went to tyre shop yesterday looking for UC7 and the boss is still checking on the size for me. There are some UC6 at the shop but the UC7 is said to be a clear improvement to the older UC6 particularly in terms of noise. It is said to be quieter. The UC7 is said to be a good all-rounder with decent or good handling in both wet and dry, and also good comfort and quietness. Sounds good to me. The Goodyear Assurance Triplemax 2 currently on my car is rather noisy now and the tread of the tyre looks a bit worn although it's only 2 to 3 years of usage, probably about 20,000km to 25,000km only.

I suspect something else is wrong with your car rather than the UC7 being noisy? The UC7 is confirmed to be quieter than the UC6 with slightly improved handling in both wet and dry.

this is how the tyre looks like after 2744km. drove long distance balik kampung recently on highway in both conditions; dry & rain. i find that UC7 is fine in both conditions.
i've never used UC6 so i cant judge whether there's any improvement. but what i can say is it's bit louder than Toyo Proxes R50.

Thanks for the response and photo. Surely useful. The Proxes R50 is said to be a quiet tyre in some reviews but not so good for handling. UC7 which is noisier should be good all rounder.

Here is the review I found on the Toyo Proxes R50 on Wapcar:-

"Cabin quietness is also remarkable, as Toyota has fitted more soundproofing materials to the new Vios. In fact, the factory-fitted Toyo Proxes R50 tires does a swell job of keeping noise levels low. We do wish grip levels provided by these rubbers were better though, as the Vios had a tendency of going wide into turns when pushed hard."

Have you replaced your tyres? If yes, which did you go for in the end?

If not, I'd take VP4 as it has been proven and tested globally, whereas UC7 does not have many independent test results.
