Hi guys,

I'm driving a VW Tiguan,4motion(AWD) SUV with 235/50/R18.
Front is MC6 and rear is Hankook S1Evo3.

The S1Evo3 was newer compared to MC6, but currently it was touching the wear indicator and only managed to travel around 11k km. The wear for all tires were even. I was surprised why the S1Evo3 wear out so fast.

BTW, the S1Evo3 and MC6 Treadwear indicated as 300 and 340 respectively.

Anyway, is about time to replace the S1Evo3.
What is the next better tire or equivalent performance with S1Evo3?

closest one probably falken FK510. and there is michelin ps5.

S1 Evo3 is UHP tires, the nearest from Korean side with similar UHP & SUV rated should be Nexen RU1.
Other brand to consider Goodyear EfficientGrip SUV, Falken FK510 SUV.

UC7 is quite good in interior noise but Turanza T005A actually is just slightly better overall in noise . You can see my tire test results below

APAC Touring Test

Larger width means more noise, so what you are doing is counter productive.

Rolling resistance difference between the 2 sizes are negligible.

TS, have you heard of this Thai tire company, OTANI?

What is your opinion of the passenger car tires from this company?

Personally felt overrated for Thailand made budget tires.
As the pricing is almost similar or more expensive compare to like local Toyo & even Maxxis tires.
If the price is cheaper maybe can consider, if similar or more expensive better just pick Toyo or Maxxis tires anytime over it.

Guys, comparing Michelins primacy 4st and PS5, comfort wise, is it differ a lot? Currently on Turanza T005a, which one would be a better upgrade? In term of performance and comfort. Not a spirited driver btw.

Toyo CR1 is my goto alternative for comfort and quiet. But no where near quiet as Primacy.
Do they still have NE3?
*
Bro, your taking a mid brand tire againts top brand tire, the cost also difference so much and you expect similar or better results?

If just want very quiet tires can consider Yokohama Advan Db series.

FK510 out of stock already and has been replaced with FK520.
FK520 for size 235/50/R18, 1pc RM680. More expensive than S1Evo3.
Looks like S1Evo3 is the value for money tire.

First of all did you knew about tire category?

Primacy = Premium touring tires
Pilot Sport = Max Performance/UUHP tires

When you knew about tire category than look into it

Turanza = Premium touring tires
Potenza = Max Performance/UUHP tires

Use this website as reference, plenty of test report available in it.

But you feedback short lifespan, not sure how to be value if it keep on changing in short period.
You need to consider calculate the money to like how much per km it last

Now in market, Local Toyo almost similar price. Why not support local made Toyo tires compare to those Thailand made China tires?

If that is the case, you can try Maxxis Victra I-Pro.

They are also available in 235/50R18. They should be cheaper than S1Evo3. Less than RM450 per piece.

I believe Maxxis Victra I-Pro also quite short lifespan, if he is looking for budget without considering short lifespan should be no issue.

Would be better to go for HP5 from Maxxis Premitra, it beats Michelin and other big brands in term of dry & wet braking. icon_idea.gif

You are right. However, 235/50R18 is not available for this tire. Which is a shame.

Thanks for the recommendation, I have another tire in my wishlist

Without any access to the detailed numbers, the wheel alignment on the rear is causing the excessive wear problem which requires re-adjustment, by a differrent alignment guy.

I'll take the VP4 if these are the prices.
Downgrade in terms of performance. Upgrade in terms of comfort.

Been reading some of your replies about VP4.

Need to change my civic tyres.

If UC7 is RM400 and VP4 is RM300-325, go VP4 too ?

Is it pretty much identical ?

I notice Continental on shopee has like huge discounts on UC7 making it RM400 per piece for my 215/50/17

But,currently the rear tires reached the wear out indicator already. Should I just re-do the alignment or replace with new tires? BTW, I can still drive my SUV with these rear tires, since only be driving it during weekends.

According to tyre manufacturers, one is supposed to replace/change tyres when or after tyre wear indicator is 'touched' (not with hairline cracks or 'rubber hardened' kind of thing as often advocated here).

In your scenario, I would go on as usual until the rear tyres wear marks are touching the wear indicators, meanwhile take your own sweet time to shop around for good deals on new tyres as well as identifying a really good alignment shop (obviously NOT the kee hin in old klang road).

When comes to a time to purchase new tyres for rear, tell your preferred alignment shop to measure and check your rear wheel alignment for problem and get it rectified!

Note: If the alignment shop tells you the as-is rear wheel alignment is ok and good requiring no adjustment - walk away from him and go find another 'real' shop.

Of course the front wheel alignment needs checking and adjustment as well.

Hence, this calls for a '4 wheel alignment' (not any other typical 2-wheel/Front wheel alignment) and this will be pricey.

Walk away from any shop that charges RM25-RM30 for that kind of (scam) wheel alignment would not help in your context.

Edit: The accelerated rear tyre wear problem will not be resolved by itself and keeps happening time and again until and unless the rear wheel alignment is adjusted 'correctly', by a real pro - base on wear rate-reduction performance.

I know that UC7 is better than VP3.

Considering VP4 is a huge improvement over VP3, it would be safe to assume VP4 has similar performance over UC7, albeit I'm more inclined to think that UC7 is a bit better overall.

https://klinikar.com/continental-showdown-u...e-of-two-tyres/

https://klinikar.com/title-continental-uc7-...-of-the-titans/

However, based on the price that you've mentioned, VP4 seems like the best value between the 2 tires.
