Opinion needed here,

Should I change my 2021 Vios rim from r16 to r17?
Currently using stock 195/50/R16 tyre and am planning to change tyre soon so am also thinking whether to upgrade r17 or stick to the stock r16

Thanks in advance

First of all, your car still got warranty or not. If your car still maintain and service in SC and still got warranty (Usually 5 years or 100k) better stick to original size. Any changes to non authorize part from outside SC will consider as warranty void/gg. I got friend just upgrade from steel rim or sport rim (non original from Toyota) also warranty gg for just 1 year car when want to claim for steering rack. laugh.gif The tire shop some more tell him warranty no impact 1, now the tire shop help bare 50% of this repair job (steering rack issue), but condition is to fix at his shop. (Mostly still chop him, since steering rack repair cost quite a lot.)

Need some opinion. Currently using myvi g3 standard rim and tyre. 185/55/15 goodyear assurance tripplemax V1.

I think because of the tyre noise, passenger feel like im driving faster than im really am. So i’m thinking to using a quieter tyre.

After further research i think continental UC7 to fits my need of having quite tyre without having too much compromise on performance or wet safety.

My only concern is below:

1) would it void any warranty coz UC7 smallest size for the standard rim are 195/55/15. While the original tyre are 185/55/15

2) if i turn the steering at full left or right, would the tyre hit the fender?

3) does the slightly wider tyre increase fuel consumption by alot? Or it’s minimal for example less than 5%?

4) would it affect the various ADAS feature?

No la tyres have lifespan of 5-6yrs,so see the date on tyres, better change for safety sakes even if threads are thick

The timing is really bad, plan to change after CNY if the condition is still usable since it is not the main vehicle to use daily.
Many things to repair and no news on bonus yet, stress....

Thank you for this recommendations. I thought some time to research about them and came down to these 2 final contenders

1. Michelin XM 2+ - Great all around usage and come with fuel efficiency feature but the pricing is on the high side

2. Continental UC7 - Quiet, comfortable but the fuel usage is gonna be higher.

If I'm looking for a tyre which is quiet and fuel efficiency, is there any alternative to the above

It is a bargain.

Some user paid about RM725 per piece in 2022, when new.

2) if i turn the steering at full left or right, would the tyre hit the fender? - No, coz the increase is minimal +1.7% in diameter size

3) does the slightly wider tyre increase fuel consumption by alot? Or it’s minimal for example less than 5%? Yes, for sure will increase but depends on your feet/fuel padel control

4) would it affect the various ADAS feature? - Yes, coz vehicle height got changes. If strict need to recalibrate = more money waste.

Bro, so many tires in market which can provide quiet experience with original size.
If you want quiet and good in wet safety can ask for Michelin XM2+, Yokohama Es32 tires for comparison.

Besides that, did you really confirm is tire or bearing issue? Coz usually bearing is the one which is louder.

If you ask michelin, max 10 years. After 5 years, check yearly by professionals/experts.

I been using other brands tires, if did not expose to extream sunlight & went thru pot holes like nothing it can last easily 7~8 years or more. My father's classis VW bettle some no brand China tires been OTR for more than 10 years still no crack or hardening feel coz always kept under shade.

UC7 is quite good in interior noise but Turanza T005A actually is just slightly better overall in noise . You can see my tire test results below

APAC Touring Test

Larger width means more noise, so what you are doing is counter productive.

Rolling resistance difference between the 2 sizes are negligible.

Most important is tread depth due to wet braking/aquaplaning. I would say give it about 5 years more, should be fine.

What is your main driver in the rim change? Looking nice? From there I could advise you more directly. But from a tire engineer point of view rim upgrades are totally unnecessary.

Hi guys,

I'm driving a VW Tiguan,4motion(AWD) SUV with 235/50/R18.
Front is MC6 and rear is Hankook S1Evo3.

The S1Evo3 was newer compared to MC6, but currently it was touching the wear indicator and only managed to travel around 11k km. The wear for all tires were even. I was surprised why the S1Evo3 wear out so fast.

BTW, the S1Evo3 and MC6 Treadwear indicated as 300 and 340 respectively.

Anyway, is about time to replace the S1Evo3.
What is the next better tire or equivalent performance with S1Evo3?
