It's really hard to not discriminate when even 'I' themselves warned me against them.

I spoke to 2 close 'I' friend of mine on this discrimination matter before. One told me to avoid at all cost while another said to be extra vigilant and careful.

Yup. During the early years of my property investment journey, i rented to them because i wanted to rent out my place fast without caring who the tenant was.

How wrong was i to do that. I had nightmare after nightmare with these ppl. They seem to have drinking parties everyday. Making so much noise till multiple complains were lodged against my unit. And then there is the smoke and smell from their prayer items. The whole house would smell and look like a temple .

Then the worst part is they started defaulting on rent. Asked my agent to chase rent from them. They sent their gangsters to harass my agent.

In the end, had to get a court order and bailiff came to remove them. Even then, my unit was left in a mess , dirty and alot of spoilt items. That was the first and last i would ever rent to these ppl.

Im also racist. My airbnb whenever i get the booking from some blackies without proper fb fame or linked in profile, i'll straight reject, even if he sounded can afford the studio suite im selling.

I do profiling alot, since i always believe in got money doesnt mean you got class mentality.

Also, if I have the choice, I wont bother renting my suites to the arabics too. Too many sand on them.

And then, these people started to make a noise like house owner is very racist, stereotyping, picky, sorta sorta.

At the end, we give them chance to rent our props again because we kesian sama them. Then, they redo the same thing aka balas dendam and carik balik mukak for their race.

Honestly saying, I would rather make a bet with 10 chinese lousy tenants, also wont try giving chance to indian tenants or melayu. Been there, felt that, heard them, and sked of them. Not like angmoh expats is any better, but so far in my experience...

In this scenario, if the tenants defaulted on their rental payment, who is going to help the landlords?

Are you going to help them pay? If no, you are just another keyboard warrior talking so much about what is ideal without offering help at all.

Hmmm it is not uncommon to give an agent a list of conditions because that is what an agent normally would ask.

For example, if you want to rent out a property, an agent would ask what kind of tenant you would prefer or if there are any preference.

As a landlord, you would prefer a responsible tenant who is financially stable, would like to stay long term, and also someone you can communicate with. Especially for any major maintenance or issues regarding the property.

For example, there is a lot of discrimination against foreign students mainly because they may not be as responsible as their tenure can be short (don't think of long term consequences to their rented house), their financial situation is not clear (late payments or non-payment), possibly unruly (due to peer mentality, culture), etc.

Why race is involved is due to cultural differences, racism, ignorance, etc. An Arab student can be as unruly as a student from China for example.

A landlord may not wish his house to be rented to a certain race, is mainly because he believes that certain race is more likely to be troublesome or there are conditions that may require them to be cautious to do so. For example, a landlord might be taking his neighbours into consideration. Or the landlord is a racist who believes his house shouldn't be 'stained' by the other race.

Is it racist? Yes it is.

Is it illegal? No.

Ultimately, the landlord has the final say who becomes his tenant, as at the end of the day he would need to deal with the tenant once the papers are signed. So if the landlord doesn't want to deal with a certain race, then it is better to be stated earlier than later.

How do we change this in the future?

As most of us grown up with less racism in our blood, we will be tasked to teach our children to let go of this mindset. Over a few generations, we will be rid of these type of policies and thoughts. Don't forget, the current parents of this generation was still taught by their parents who just went through Merdeka and are well aware of the systemic racism that still exists in the country. It takes a few generations and hopefully newer generations of government officials will also adopt more inclusive policies to get rid of this mindset.

Super difficult ppl to deal with. Renting my house but acting like they own the place and act like a boss.

Arabs are historically rough & rude ppl. Thats why middle east there non stop fighting and war.

They follow their archaic law where women have to be slaves to the husband. I once brought an arab couple to view my unit long time ago. The lady wanted to go toilet. This lady then proceeded to ask the husband permission to go toilet in front of me and the agent. We were like WTF, go toilet oso need ask permission. Thats why i wouldnt want to deal with these type of ppl.

other countries authorities are firm so nobody mess around
tenant or landlord are equal.

you pick up the phone, call the cops and say they are a nonsense
and default in rent, cops are already at the door way of your property
and will issue eviction notice so on and will advice tenant to move on in a few days if
not they will come nabbed them away.

tenant wont have a chance hence no worries on racial profiling
as authorities are in place to assist the course properly

back here...cops say buat report pergi settle sendiri !


ah...so all no assistance from authorities hence landlord
have no choice but racing in the future tenant selection.

if you guys have a chance to experience rental in singapore
you will know how far behind we are , they have a setting
to prevent almost all this issue! landlord and tenant are peaceful
in many ways.
