I think I’m like you, I am mainly just using it for personal consumption. But you know la, we are at tropical country, super hard to accept the device without fans ler. I mean looks at windows laptop, even with so many fans, the main breakdown reason is usually due to heat. Hahah! And I don’t use it in ac room. sad.gif

You are right about the dated design, that’s why I’m considering my option.

Cannot compare windows laptops with macbook le, the arm based chips tend to produce less heat compared to intel and amd.

I’m considering this between the 13 inch pro p,since 14 inch one is way too expensive.
Any issues with heat ah?since they don’t operate with fan, and I’m not in air one room 24hours/7.

I think can pass the 13 pro la.. too old. Im using just productivity apps eg cloud/ms 365..youtube, browsing. Very light photo editing on LR, no issue with heat. Back to back batch process hdr etc prob will heat up a little. mine is on a laptop cooler, i think it helps to dissipate some heat. Im not in aircond room too, just fan mostly.

You are both talking about MacBook Air M2 right? Seriously no heat issues y’a? I’m considering MacBook 13 because of the fan, but 14” one is way too expensive for me to stomach especially I don’t even use it for any rendering work. Just wanna watch shows and surfing….. I think MacBook Air seems like the best choice for me. I guess if I use a fan blowing at it, should be ok? Lol.

if u just surfing and watch movies/YouTube, then the MBA M1 is enough for u. Actually the MBA M2 and M1 performance is quite similar, u pay more $$$ for the MBA M2 new design only which I think it's not worth it.

Either u buy MBA M1 or wait for the MBA M3, the MBA M2 is just not worth in anyway.

I don’t have a laptop now except work one so I need one soon. So I really don’t want to wait for the next one, technology is always changing anyways, how do you expect to chase every single version? at that rate might as well wait for m3, m4, m5…

Also how long does the update support for each device? I assume that M1 Air will have only 4-5 years lifespan left?

By the way, what ram are you all using? It seems like 8GB is more than enough for the tasks that I have. But 16GB seems like a better choice.

Yup M2 MBAir. Very happy with it so far. It's very efficient, hardly even heat up for normal office productivity tasks, browsing, content consumption and sips the battery. Even if you want to do some light photo editing shouldnt be a problem. I think there are a few comparisons on youtube 13 pro vs 13 air, the fans are mostly useful for sustained loads eg rendering big files.

I bought 16gb 512gb because i intend to keep this for a while. 8gb is enough. But M2 air with 256gb has the slower SSD compared to previous M1 256gb because using "single channel" ssd vs dual 128gb on M1. In real life you wont notice it, only when rendering/transferring big files.

I intend to keep it for a long time too. Hopefully more than 5 years, if I want to get 16GB I have to order right? Can’t even buy from Switch?

I am using M2 512GB with upgraded RAM to 16GB.

Using it for work and productivity like emails, excel, word, PowerPoint sometimes YouTube and browsing on both Safari and Chrome.

Will run Parallel Desktop on Windows 11 and running macOS at the same time because some office task that I do needs to run in Windows OS.

I've been working from home since last year and I didn't on air condition in my living room and so far my M2 are fine. Don't even feel any heat at all.

Mild warm maybe yes but really barely feel it and won't makes your finger or palm discomfort, but for sure the weather these fews days are much much hotter than my M2. laugh.gif

Hmm… ok ok. Now it’s just a matter of the ram.
Those old MacBooks that you all mentioned are probably like 4GB ram back then? And still smooth as butter now?
