Testament as well to the original American designers' thinking. I think they used the autonomous targeting capability built into the missile's design. Would not have been possible if the Americans didn't consider the scenario when they first designed the missile.

well, the AGM-88 HARM consists of an add-on module, and it was designed to be integrated quickly on various different platforms from F-4 Phantoms to F-16s, so inherently it is less work than say a radar-guided AMRAAM

but in the case of the Ukrainian Mig-29 they performed a very ingenious software hack to trick the Russian avionics into thinking it is a Russian Kh-31 HARM, example below biggrin.gif

on the HARM end they set it to use an independent active seeker mode so the HARM uses its own acquisition sensors rather than depend on aircraft radar, as it would if for example connected to an EA-6B Prowler

in the cockpit rather than use the HARM computer module which is rather bulky, they launched it off some kind of iPad-like touchscreen biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif now that is truly ingenious!

(note also the Garmin tacked on the right)

Translation:

For the first time in our history, we won an order for the integration of an air defense system and a set of ballistic missiles. Our EXCALIBUR INTERNATIONAL won this order for the army in Indonesia. The cost of both projects exceeds 500 million euros.

I've great admiration for the conduct of the UAF. Fundamentally using same designs as the Russians, but obtaining operational results far beyond the normal operation envelope, in direct contrast to the Russians. Shows the importance of doctrine, logistics, and training. The MiGs are being used exactly as they were designed for, which is short field take off from rough, dispersed airstrips and they have denied Russia air superiority consistently for 9 months. The planes are clearly being operated close to their engineering limits and are still operating fairly well it seems. The Americans will be studying them for years after this I imagine.

NATO training, that makes the biggest difference.

NATO troops are taught to think decentralized command on their own. So they can fight in small teams of 8

Russian troops all rely on their commissioned officers for command. Imagine if your CO is dead, 100 headless directionless troops running around as sitting targets or canon foders.

TUDM & TLDM adakan latihan pengguguran ranjau laut dari udara

user posted image

The design will be similar to this PT PAL 143 meter frigate:

TLDM to buy second batch of Gading Marine G2000 Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC)

A formation of TLDM G2000 FIC

New FICs on track. It appears that the new batch of Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) from Gading Marine Industry (M) Sdn Bhd is on track. Thirteen FICs are being procured from Gading Marine, with four of them scheduled to be delivered next with the rest to be delivered in 2024. Gading Marine also built the first batch of six FICs procured under Op Benteng.

It is unclear whether the second batch of the Gading Marine will be the same as the first but from the Gading Marine website, it is likely that it will be slightly different. From website, the first batch is now described as the G2000 FIC 18m class. The second batch is likely the G2000 Mk II FIC 18m class which is also featured on the website.

The Mk II FIC cabin is placed further forward than the batch 1. The line drawing also revealed that the Mk II FIC is equipped with a single RWS on top of the cabin with two-gun mounts in the rear deck.

Netherlands to integrate its last brigade into the German army this year

user posted image

The Netherlands and Germany have taken a big step towards combining their armed forces with the integration of the last Dutch brigade into the German army, NRC reported on Thursday.

The 13th Light Brigade, based in Oirschot, will come under the command of Germany’s 10 Panzer Division, creating an infantry with a combined strength of 50,000 troops. The total manpower of both countries’ armed forces is 89,000, of whom 24,000 are Dutch.

NRC said the merger was part of the Common Army Vision, a confidential agreement between the two countries’ armed forces, signed off on November 30 last year at a meeting in Dresden between Martin Wijnen, commander of the Dutch armed forces, and his German counterpart Alfons Mais.

It would represent the closest partnership between two countries in Nato and is part of a large-scale restructuring of the German army, which is due to take effect on April 1. Jean-Paul Duckers, the Netherlands’ acting commander of operations, told NRC: ‘Many people don’t realise how unique what we are doing is.’

The coalition agreement published last January and the defence department’s policy statement in June mentioned closer co-operation with Germany without going into detail.

The policy statement said the two countries would strengthen their combined operations, firepower and other capabilities, while the ‘further digitalisation’ of their armies in the coming years would play ‘a big role’

new world order.
end is near.

so basically the dutch army joined the german army to defend the eastern front from which ever enemy.

since their western coastal area are cozy with the brits in the west, Scandinavians in the north.

Tok Mat: Govt to buy two more submarines under navy transformation plan

KOTA KINABALU: The government is planning to acquire two more submarines under the Royal Malaysian Navy's 15 to 5 transformation plan, says Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan.

The Defence Minister said these new submarines, on top of Malaysia’s two in-commission submersibles, were vital for the country's maritime security.

He said submarines were strategic assets which elevated the naval fleet's capabilities in line with maritime protection strategies to deal with regional and global issues, particularly regarding the South China Sea.

"Through its 15 to 5 transformation plan, the navy is planning the acquisition of a submarine under the 14th Malaysian Plan 2031-2035 (14MP) and another under the 15MP (2036-2040).

"This long-term modernisation of the fleet includes the acquisition of other surface vessels which will most surely beef up the navy’s capabilities in facing the new dimensions of warfare," he said after visiting the navy base in Sepanggar and the Fifth Infantry Division Camp in Lok Kawi here on Thursday (Feb 9).

Given pla is almost at our door steps, mindef need to conduct strategic review before decide what weapons to purchase and priority. under bn gomen, platforms were largely chosen by the whim of the minister often against services recommendation.

rmn primary role should be securing the straits of malacca and scs.
