Mid life upgrade to the Formidable class frigates

Most of the new developments and ships will be ready circa 2030. Meanwhile, all 4 Type 218Sg (2 awaiting commissioning and 2 more ready but undergoing tests) + 2 Archer AIP equipped submarines would also be in operation. The Archer class may be replaced by more Type 218Sgs.

RSN also revealed recently that it will be replacing its 6 Fokker 50 MPAs armed with harpoons and torpedoes on external wing pylons:

Likely to be P8 Poseidon or some derivative as ST Engineering has signed a P8 Sustainability agreement with Boeing;

Finally, RSN has announced that the service will be replacing its Bedol class minesweepers and Endurance lpds with new ships.

RSN has stated that the Bedok class minesweepers will be replaced by unmanned systems which it already has in the form of Venus USVs with minehunting equipment. But these USVs need motherships for carriage and it could come in the form of Odense Steel Shipyard cube system ships:

The Endurance class lpd replacements will be the largest ships built by RSN at estimated 17000 tons to 20000+ tons. I doubt it will be a totally ST design with RSN opting for some sort of hybrid design like the MRCV heavy frigate/destroyers.

Ships in this class include the Endurance 170, Hyuga, Dokdo and Mistral class LHDs.

I won't be surprised that Sg selects Juan Carlos class LHDs and orders 2 of them. It checks all the boxes. Proven design. Low manpower and high automation. And F35bs can land and take off from it. RSN has seen it and operated from it thanks to the RAN. My guess is that it'll be a Juan Carlos derivative.

It can be configured to carry a variety of rockets in two sealed pod containers: 40 (2 pods x 20 rockets each) 122mm Grad rockets; or 26 (2x13) 160mm LAR-160 or ACCULAR rockets; or eight (2x4) 306mm EXTRA rockets; two (2x1) 330mm Delilah missiles or four (2x2) 370mm Predator Hawk tactical ballistic missiles.[1].

The Extra rockers have a range of 150km. Predator Hawk tactical ballistic missiles have a range of 300km. Puls can also deploy the Sky striker loitering munition.

Gewiz... wonder who is IAIs defence partner.

Second tranche of 18 Rafale for Indonesia enters into the order backlog

(Saint-Cloud, France, August 10, 2023) – As part of the contract signed by Indonesia on February 2022 for the acquisition of 42 Rafale, the second tranche of 18 Rafale came into force today. This follows the entry into force in September 2022 of the first tranche of 6 Rafale, bringing the total number of aircraft on order to 24.

The acquisition of the latest-generation Rafale for the Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara (Indonesian National Army Air Force) includes a complete “turnkey” solution as well as a substantial industrial return for the Indonesian aeronautical sector. Educational projects will also be launched as part of the technical training of aeronautical know-how.

The “omnirole” Rafale is a unique asset that will ensure Indonesia’s sovereignty and operational independence and reinforce its role as a major regional power.

“This new step consolidates the beginning of a long-term partnership with the Indonesian authorities, whom I would like to thank once again for their confidence. It testifies to the strategic link that unites Indonesia and France, and will be reflected in the growing presence of Dassault Aviation in the country”, said Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation.

Indonesia Announces Commitment to Acquire Boeing F-15EX

- Indonesia signs a Memorandum of Understanding to procure up to 24 F-15EX advanced fighter jets
- Indonesian Minister of Defense tours F-15 production line in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 21, 2023—The Republic of Indonesia and Boeing shared their commitment to finalize the sale of 24 F-15EX aircraft to Indonesia, subject to U.S. government approval, during a visit of Indonesia’s Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto to the United States.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Air Vice Marshal Yusuf Jauhari, Head of Defense Facilities Agency, Indonesia Ministry of Defense, and Mark Sears, Boeing Fighters vice president and program manager, took place today at the company’s St. Louis facility following a tour of the F-15EX production line.

“We are pleased to announce our commitment to procure the critical F-15EX fighter capability for Indonesia,” said Minister Subianto who witnessed the MoU signing. “This state-of-the-art fighter will protect and secure our nation with its advanced capabilities.”

The F-15EX is the most advanced version of the F-15 ever built, with digital fly-by-wire flight controls, a new electronic warfare system, an all-glass digital cockpit, and the latest mission systems and software capabilities, which will all be leveraged in delivering the new F-15IDN.

“We have invested years of expertise into developing the F-15EX capabilities. There is no other fighter like the F-15 in the world, and this platform will put Indonesia at the top of air dominance capabilities,” said Sears. “Boeing is ready to support this effort and remains a committed partner to the U.S. government in advancing international security objectives with allies and partners around the world.”
