go626201 when Unifi first launched. 60GB download quota for VIP5 plan. LOL Though it was never enforced, always “no cap” until further notice.

Ic. So ultimately using Tri-Band is a better choice.
*
Yes, definitely. Fully wireless mesh setups much better with a 3rd band. Of course, the best is a cable. Even cable now also got higher specs. Start to have mesh units with 2.5Gbps ports. Eg: Deco X90.

My apologies, after reading afif92 reply, I realise I was testing only at 2K. Safari only displays VP9 encoded resolutions for Youtube. This is on Mac mini M1. Apple M1 does not have hardware AV1 decoding.

Tried again in Chrome. No problems.

Try this video. 8K 60FPS. This is bad. Neither my Macmini M1 nor my 12400F/RX6600XT can play this.

My IP when asking google is 60.x.x.13 (example).
Tracert dns.google.com
1. 60.x.x.254 (always noticed the first hop is going to the last address of my IP 254, is this TM's first exchange / switch device??)
2. 10.55.x.x
3. 10.55.x.x
4. 10.55.x.x

So this means I am on Private IP aka CGNat right?
*
Looks like u r on public IP. Can't you just post the whole traceroute?

This one is Webe's old address space. Last time check always 1 extra hop more than TM's.

Sounds like your router is configured to drop ICMP.

Can you ping 8.8.8.8?

I can ping 8.8.8.8.
Traceroute from router can.
CODE

Is it this one?

That above setting set to NO will allow only your router to traceroute and ping. Could be another setting in your firewall that is blocking ICMP forwarding to your LAN.

Not so sure about Asus but on Mikrotik, if I want to block ICMP, I will have one rule to block ICMP to the router (input chain) and one more rule to block ICMP to my LAN (forward chain.)

If you can ping then you should be able to traceroute also.

No.

ping and response  involves ICMP Type 0 (echo reply) and Type 8 (echo).

traceroute uses ICMP Type 11 (time exceeded).

able to ping-pong does not necessarily mean you can traceroute, and vice-versa. a firewall can selectively block exact ICMP Type, or block altogether.
*
Is the Asus firewall that granular? I’m sure he didn’t go and block specific ICMP types. Did you prokiller1199 ?

No I didn't, there's no setting like that in the firewall page. UniFi blocked traceroute...

Just tested to 8.8.8.8 using different protocol (eg: -P GRE) on macOS. Dunno if Windows tracert can change protocol to use. traceroute on macOS uses UDP by default.

UDP: OK
TCP: nope
GRE OK until hop 5
ICMP: OK

Tested a few other random protocol. Most cannot, some stop at hop 4 or 5 or 6.

Just tried to traceroute with mikrotik Winbox.
And i tried to use the traceroute tool to 8.8.8.8 by UDP and it does not respond correctly, but i reroute it with VPN and it traceroute without problems.
I think some network does not allow to traceroute with UDP

Same here with Mikrotiik traceroute and udp.

No idea why but macOS -P UDP can while Ubuntu --udp cannot.

LOL, sorry, I also dunno. Using UDP Mac can, Ubuntu cannot.

But here is tracert on Windows 11. Seems to be ok. I look at the traffic. tracert (at least in Win 11) is using ICMP.
CODE
> tracert 8.8.8.8

Tracing route to dns.google [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

 1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  router.lan [10.0.1.1]
 2     2 ms     2 ms     2 ms  1.32.33.254
 3     3 ms     3 ms     3 ms  10.55.49.1
 4     4 ms     4 ms     4 ms  10.55.48.18
 5     5 ms     5 ms     5 ms  72.14.204.208
 6     6 ms     5 ms     5 ms  216.239.63.159
 7     6 ms     6 ms     6 ms  72.14.234.89
 8     5 ms     6 ms     5 ms  dns.google [8.8.8.8]

Trace complete.

Try and see. Usually the speed cap is also set at your modem. If so then cannot. You'll need to borrow their modem also. But if not set at modem, then can.

Or you can login to your modem to remove the speed cap.

Ya, I was looking also. If RM80 or thereabouts, can get one to try. Nowadays during Shp or Laz sale, got many AX routers around RM100.

I think I will go renew contract, see if can get one.
