The E-series welcome a new member in the face of Nokia E51. Featuring a classic metallic design, it has all the features you would expect in an E-series model, plus some extras on top.

The phone will be quad-band GSM and will support GPRS and EDGE. In terms of third generation networks it is equipped with HSDPA, providing speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. Other wireless connectivity includes Infrared, Bluetooth 2.0 and WLAN. Regarding wired connectivity Nokia E51 includes microUSB v2.0 full speed and a 2.5mm audio jack.

It seems as if it doesn't have much in common with the Nokia E50 and when it comes to functionality it resembles more the Nokia E65. Regardless of the fact that the Nokia E51 is totally business-oriented, it is not completely depraved of multimedia capabilities. It has a 2 megapixel camera that is also able to record video. There is also an MP3 player and FM radio, as well as A2DP Bluetooth profile.

The display on Nokia E51 is a 2" 16M color one that supports QVGA resolution. In terms of internal memory - the phone is doing well with a good 130MB, which is further expandable through the microSD card slot that support memory cards with capacity of up to 4GB.

The new E-series family member will be globally available during Q4 2007 with a retail price of approximately EUR 350.

Don't forget that the E51 as with other E-series phones can be managed centrally with the Nokia Device Management suite. You wouldn't appreciate it unless you're deploying them in an enterprise environment.

Comparing the 6120 classic with the E51 (and other E-series phones), the 6120c doesn't have native VOIP. The E51 is also heavier but smaller, indicating that it will feel more "solid" than the 6120c. Lastly, the 6120c has less RAM than the E51, 64MB vs 96MB, which is critical for multitasking.

donno why so many don't like the looks of the phone... i'm looking forward to this phone... drool.gif

if u check the pics in www.nokia.com.sg in the See it in Action
- the stainless steel back has bump dots... texture... cool!
- the keypad material also has texture...
- can only hope the trimming at the side wont attract fingerprints...

+ it's thin... and metal solid (weight) like the 6300...
+ wifi! FREE VOIP...!
+ extra shortcut keys
+ very business like... (that's why E series la...)
+ interesting battery life (1050mAh)... bigger capacity, can last longer then usual

hope the price wont be sky high notworthy.gif

i dont think it has a front camera... not really built for video conferencing...

similar like the 6233... the connectivity (HSPDA/3G & Wifi) capabilities all for business applications...

Read a few reviews and they stated that the battery life is very good.

Many commented that it looks cheap, but somehow I feel it look elegant.

And with the features it offers, it's just the E90 minus the GPS, which is pretty redundant in such a device with such a small screen.

Some traders in Garage Sale have already listed the E51, retailing at around RM 1,300 +/- authorized set.

HI Guys,

Need advise before I go out and splash RM1,399/- on the E51. I am currently
using a Moto V3x + Ipaq 6365 (ya I knw its old) will the E51 suit me better? I thought
of just getting all my contacts into a single phone, is this model advisable?
I hve previously checked out the Ipaq 512, similar features as the E51 but I dont plan to
get another Ipaq, so what say the SIFUz here, thanks in advance notworthy.gif

yup, at first i don't really like the design, but after seeing the crome version,
i'm starting to like it smile.gif

its classy and quite elegant..
at first prefer the e65 but then later focus on this one as it feels more solid as it is partly made of metal and not so plasticy like e65 smile.gif

E65 is not plasticky at all. The battery cover's rubbery texture makes the phone feel very solid when holding in the hand.

The 6120c on the other hand is very plasticky.

But yeah I went to Nokia The Curve and actually held the actual unit of the E51. The metal casing really is solid, and feels good. smile.gif

Too bad they only had the black version.

1. It's free. Just get the password from the counter.
2. It's up to individual preference. I prefer my phones to be in its original state, ie, without any wrappings / crystal casing. smile.gif
3. Definitely the chrome / silver version. I've seen the Black in real life, held it, but still prefer the chrome silver version.

hi everyone,

i'm a long time "lurker", this is my first post after some months of silence smile.gif really like this phone. someone said earlier it's available at Nokia The Curve? Gonna check it out there.

But so far after looking at the pics at various review sites... I think this is the next nokia phone i'm gonna buy. I really love the whole "functionality over bling-bling" philosophy.

The only thing that's making me hesitate right now is whether it wil work with Ubuntu or any other GNU/Linux.

So, finally got my answer after some hard knocks..and I wish to share it with u all...

so, if u still have a programs/ files / data inside ur nokia e51 which u cannot remove even u set to factory setting...

goto to nokia website and download the firmware of this phone into ur PC/notebook...then plug in ur usb cable..

HOI!!!!! why this phone is not popular???? so little people using it meh?

in penang i've asked several shops they don't even know what is E51 model. if the shop got also. they said the sale very "cold". i found a shop got sell CLS ap set which carries 15months warranty for RM960.

ahhh... my xphone2 is dying. i'm looking high low for a windows mobile smartphone but it seems like nothing come close to this E51. price and feature.

i've put my hands on this mobile. it's very solid and feature packed! i guess i'm gonna migrate to symbian. godammit.

rich8833, i guess you can't listen to radio using bluetooth handsfree. as of what i know, most mobile phone requires a wired handsfree earphone to on the radio. it's because of the wire act as an antenna.

slingwish, i asked one of the salesman. that fella said the phone can only charge very little bit when you plug it on a computer usb for data transfer. LOL i'm very doubtful of his knowledge. hahaha... maybe you can check for us. see whether the battery percentage got go up or not when you plug on the usb.

E series normally very "cold door" one lah. sweat.gif Like my E70 so useful but so little people talk about it. sweat.gif

Maybe E61i and E90 is more popular maybe because of the size lol. Nevertheless, E51 is one hell of a great device, I wanted to buy for my father but he said he kinda fedup with smartphones, try to convince him that this phone has very good features and no more slow like old nokias la but he wanted a simple phone enough.

Still, if I want a small and powerful business phone this is definitely the one to get.

E51 users !

Let's share essential apps to make this neat little device even better.

Currently I have/or have tried/want to know:

1. Google Maps
2. Yahoo Go! (will not install, sent an e-mail to Yahoo tech support, they said to check back often as they add new phones regularly)
3. Any freeware notepad app better than the included one ? With the default notepad app, I can't seem to move down a line. Need to press space many times for it to go down to the next line.
4. Any recommended media players ? Haven't played around with audio/video playback yet, but I think for my simple needs, the inc Realplayer should be "ok".
5. Any app to display the battery in percentages ?

Will list/request more as i play around.

p/s: How long does the battery last typically for you ? I get about 3 days with normal wifi/calls usage.

i just got my phone today, mixed feeling, not biasa with s60. as i'm using windows. maybe i'll take sometime to master the phone. but the thing i'm satisfied about it is the solidness of the phone.

i've been searching for softwares. there is this website that i came across with when i'm searching E51 forums. alot of good stuff there.

anybody here is a windows mobile user last time? i'm sure you know what i'm talking about.

i'm miss the search contact style at my windows mobile.
you just have to type the contact's name using t9 style (like sms dictionary like that) on the front page/ desktop. then the name will come out. that one very useful.

is there any s60 3rd party software that is similar to that?

Hei thx katopunk ! PhonetInfo works great. Neat little app. thumbup.gif

Just transferred some stuff to the phone last night, Painfully slow ! (800KB/s to phone mem, a Toshiba 1GB mSD) Is it meant to be this slow ? I just used the data transfer mode, although later I used Nokia PC Site, about the same oso. ANything I'm doing wrong ? Also seems to take a lot of power, from almost full (2 bars missing) to 2 bars left !.

Hi i'm new here...

Just got my E51, and also my brother did as well.. it's such a powerful phone. I can do anything that my previous O2 Zinc could do, but faster and in a much more compact platform. this is my first symbian phone, and my first nokia for at least 6 years. the interface is comparable or maybe a bit faster than my w850i, which has been a key point of phones for me. I hate the lag of motorola and nokias of the old.

so far the wifi and 3g connections have been impressive, very stable. voice call quality a step up from the O2, and the slim form factor is very well appreciated compared to the O2 of course.

installed office suite (document editor) as well some games e.g. need for speed, tower bloxx etc. just to test the functionality of the system.

i will post further long term review of the phone, as well as input from my brother.

Hmmm.. I'm not sure about it. Still waiting for my 4gb to come. Hopefully will reach this monday. For me if i were to transfer large capacity of files i'll use the card reader. Much more faster i believe.

1. The E51 performance is pretty zippy thanks to it's speedy 369Mhz CPU.
2. 3-4 days for me. A bit of wifi, mp3s, average sms & calls.
3. Haven't timed it yet, but I'd say around that.
4. Should be able to display most websites with no issues (LY.net works fine smile.gif )

remind you 1st, this is not n series phone. so don't espect much from the media playback quality. i don't have any problem with the volume. it's sufficient for me. maybe the mp3 song that you used isn't suitable to be a ringtone. that's why you can hear is sometimes. try something like daft punk's song. i bet you can hear it. hahahaha...

about the crackling sound i think you increase the volume beyond the speaker capability. that's why crackling gsound. perhaps you can lower down the volume for the ring tone.

ok, found out what the problem was, I had used the 3D Tone(a feature in E51) and deactivated it, now it rings
perfectly. rclxms.gif mp3 plays really well in this phone flex.gif BUT battery life not more then 2 days for sure for me.
I make alot of calls as well as send out numerous sms as well as listen to music, so so far battery lasts only
2 days. SO time to get a car charger(lucky same with my wifes N73) thumbup.gif

Now transfering Word, Xcel files into it, will check out how it performs and post reply. Have a good week alll.....

lets share some nice programs. what's yours?

here's some of my must have programs. some programs you have to sign it yourself. it's a little bit pain in the ass.

handy taskman (task killer and etc)
fexplorer (file explorer, i find it better than y-browser)
conversation (threaded style of sms)
emtube (youtube)
resco photo viewer (e51 gallery sucks!)
skyequikey (search contacts and programs using t9 from main page)
nokia device status (you can get it from nokia website)
google map mobile
windows live messenger (you can get it from nokia website)
coreplayer (media player for all shitz. mp3, flac, divx, xvid, wma, and etc)

hint:

price for ori is about rm1250 and for ap is rm980.

Battery life with a lot of phone calls, sms, internet, bluetooth handsfree - i have 1-3 bars left at the end of the day, so have to charge every night... not sure if its the battery or i'm a heavy user... will need to check with service center soon if its the battery...

the phone gets hot during long phone calls/internet sessions... kinda annoying but cant beat its performance...

anybody know where can get nice casing/silicone case for this phone? no one in low yat seems to have it...

internet phone. is a very pain in the ass process setup. you have to register for a SIP account. go to www.voipstunt.com or www.fring.com

most voip provider gives free calls to landline. you have to pay for mobile. another thing is, you gotta have credit in your account. before you have phone for free.

another thing I found out yesterday, when i placed my Moto V3x next to my E51, seems like the E51
battery by the end of the day will show 2 bars!! and I jus did my normal calls, sms and wifi'ing....
today(now 4 pm) seems the same thing again.....anyone has answers to this phenomenon? shakehead.gif

Performing a compare with normal E51.. no camera but two new (?) features:
- Nokia Intellisync Wireless Email
- Exchange mail
GSMArena compare

perhaps the price higher

from gsmarena
"The camera-free Nokia E51 is expected to begin shipping as early as Q1 2008 at an estimated retail price of 250 EUR, before subsidies or taxes. Strangely enough this is more than the camera-enabled version of the phone currently costs."

Certificate error:

If you get certificate error when attempting to install the program or themes on your S60 3rd Edition smartphone, it means that you haven enabled installation of unsigned SIS files. Go to Tools -> App. Manager, choose Options -> Settings and set Software installation to All and Online certif. check to Off.

CSL is the 1st tier AP company which service centre around malaysia n its service nearly as good as ori phone...nway, its still an ap company...

if u go to shop, the sellers surely n confidently say CSL is ori (but its not)..even last time when i wanna buy my p1, the seller mention CSL is ori (what the heck mad.gif )..the reason they say ori coz CSL provide warranty for 1.5 years n 12 monts lcd warranty (for nokia) n they simply wanna make extra profit by selling the CSL unit at ori phone price...(they are seller like this)

u can check CSL price in this forum via hairul
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=270218&hl=

nway, CSL is one of the best ap company phones, n with that price is quite ok perhaps

the shop will not give rm1280 price becoz they hv to pay for the shop rent n while the forumer here no need to do so, thats why, at here forumer who sell mobile phone can quote price cheaper than outside shop price.

Just to share, I had my first symbian phone, e51 last weekend at 1400 with 2GB card. Very impress with the performance. perhaps need time to play and get used to the symbian stuff.

Short battery life sometimes kina frustrated. I'm having normal voice call/sms, some wifi stuff, very less in camera/music .. 2bar batt at end of day.

other than this issue. i'm loving it... rclxms.gif

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. Loving it! To the haters, you have valid arguments, but for the likes of me, it's perfect. Small stuff, I use my E51, larger stuff, I'll fire up my laptop.

Anyway, anybody managed to get a screen protector for your E51? Mine's pretty natty, so gotta get it replaced. Novacell doesn't have it, found many on eBay, but it's pretty expensive, figured I can save a bit by buying locally.

I'm also looking for an external case/condom/etc for the E51. Something stylish la. ehe. Any recommendations ? (in PJ yah).

Also, any good stereo bluetooth sets you guys recommend ? tired of the wires already. something in ear, coz my ears are weird and the bundled headphones slip off easily.

Thanks in advance. smile.gif

What do you guys think of EXiM screen protectors? They cost USD12.24 (with shipping) from eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/EXiM-SPUC-Screen-Prote...1QQcmdZViewItem

There are cheaper ones out there too. Shall we gather some folk for a bulk buy? I noticed a cheaper 10-in-1 pack going for AUD10.05 (with shipping). I doubt it will make much of a difference between the two, but I might be mistaken so opinions are welcome. Novacell sells their house brand ones for RM15, IIANM, so this 10-in-1 might be a little cheaper.

Eoma, IIANM, the E51 doesn't support A2DP, better to check it out further before plonking down cash for a stereo headset.

Eh, i tried it on my friend's motorola set and it worked. It's the set you get with the limited edition Jay Chou phone. That's what sparked my interest actually.

I paired the phone with the device, it entered headset mode iianm, then played a song via the default media player. Could have been in mono though (maybe) but there was audio from both sides. Hmmmmm. hmm.gif

edit: Eh it's supported wad....

Eh? Can YouTube ah? Right, I just tried it with the built-in browser. I came as far as RealPlayer launching. Then I got a "Disconnected. Try connecting again?" error message. Running it via Wifi on my home WLAN.

If it's any consolation, I got my Avaxx set from Hello Station for RM1,388, no microSDHC included. If I may promote, I got my 4 GB microSDHC from George for a very good price. You can find his thread on LYN here:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/514973

Ah, just checked, prices just went up, but he told me that his prices fluctuates according to market rates, so one might hang back and wait for a while for the prices to drop if it isn't really urgent.

Ah, you know what? I tried Googling for the link where I supposedly read about the E51's lack of A2DP support but for the life of me I can't get it, so please discount my views.

So, did you notice if the audio was stereo?

Added on March 12, 2008, 7:21 pmHave you guys seen this video? After seeing the torture they put it through with the screen emerging relatively unscathed, I'm tempted to plonk down some money for this eBay item.

Yes, I do managed to get the Nokia original black socks for it.
However, I don't recommend it as you should be able to find alternatives that a lot cheaper.

I'm using the black one currently as I can't get the silver one.
Anyway, I'm still fine with the black version but I just feel that it's not that eye catching as the silver one.
By the way, I'll post my review on the MFOP screen protector for E51 here as soon as it arrives on my doorsteps.

Alert to all E51 users,

A weird problem has struck my E51 which is less than 1 month old. During this evening, my phone suddenly failed to read my SIM card all of the sudden. So, I thought that was just some problem with my SIM. Then, I proceed with swapping my SIM with my brother's. To my surprise, it works as it should on my brother's phone. The real nightmare comes when my phone failed to read his SIM. I'll be sending in my phone for a repair or try to request for a 1 to 1 exchange if possible as I've never come across such problem for newly bought phones. Anyway, I'm interested in knowing is there anyone facing the same problem especially those who bought their phone on Nokia Store Low Yat.

After owning this phone for a week, I like it very much.
Still looking around S60v3 (sisx) programs to load into the phone. Anyone can recommend good sites ( preferable free ) to add more usage to the phone?

I found the text SMS is not user friendly, is there a better feature SMS program, like
- use up key to recall previous contact when sending message
- use up key to recall previous message when writing message
- set default contact user

You're in the minority here J.J, mine works pretty well. Also, I doubt they'll give you a 1 for 1 swap deal. The Malaysian market ain't that mature yet.

Seems that I'm the only one with no luck here for getting a defective/inferior unit of E51.
Anyway, I visited Nokia Service Center at Plaza Berjaya. As I've expected, they denied my 1 to 1 exchange request on the spot.
According to them, their top priority is a repair, then a circuit board replacement and finally a 1 to 1 exchange which is the last resort.
So, I guess there's nothing I can do except to accept my tough luck... cry.gif

You should see me when I was shopping for the E51 at Subang Parade. I made the poor guy jump through hoops trying to sell me the CSL E51. Finally, we agreed on a price and package. When it came time to inspect the goods, I found the first unit with a stuck/dead pixel, so I immediately rejected it. He then went to a neigbouring stall to grab another CSL unit (do these guys all work for the same company?) and that one had a dead/stuck pixel too. In the end, he was forced to wrap up two units which I refused to purchase.

Needless to say I left Parade immediately after that. smile.gif

In the end, I just bought an Avaxx set.

I guess I'm really having a tough luck when I made my purchase at Nokia Store LYP. sweat.gif
The sales person demonstrate the unit to me and it works perfectly and flawlessly.
I seriously can't find any single thing that I can reject so I tell the sales person to wrap it up and made my payment then left LYP happily.
Everything is pretty good and I enjoyed using the phone all this while until yesterday night where this stupid problem struck my phone. vmad.gif

service provider. BTW, mine is AVAXX set notworthy.gif ok i guess...no major problems so far(touch-wood brows.gif )
*
I've tested the SIM on other phones. It works as it should. Other working SIM don't work when it's inserted into my phone. So, there won't be any problem with the SIM.
Just a side note, the SIM is inserted since day 1 of purchase so if it's problematic then it should be noticed on the spot during purchase. Well, now it don't really matters anymore as I've sent it in for a service.
Anyway, that post is just a friendly alert to all of you guys who is also E51 user since the problem can happen without any warning and I'm the 1st and most unlucky person to have experience it. cry.gif
I'm still clueless what's going on with my phone and still awaiting the call from Nokia to know what're they planning to do to my phone. rclxub.gif

Any luck getting an ETA on your E51? Also, I presume we won't see your MF screen protector review since your phone is in the shop, no?

Well, I guess I'm having a series of bad luck with my phone and phone related product.
The person that I'm buying from has informed me that his supplier is giving him problem so the orders didn't arrive on time.
Furthermore, he is considering a full refund to all buyers if things aren't going to be good.

Yeah, I just call Nokia Care Center just now and they told me the phone is ready for pickup.
So, I'll go to collect in either on today or tomorrow.

i've actually tried the WLAN capabilities yesterday while i was in sunway pyramid... i kept losing connection, but then again i was walking around the whole top floor...

in terms of surfing, it's ok... but the screen is still too small and can see that it was not designed to cater for web surfing... tested LYF and managed to post here as well... supports html.. full web capabilities... tried msn messenger as well.. problem is that it is difficult to switch between pages in browser as i only managed to open one at a time

as for the hissing sound, haven't experienced it... but then again, my hands are always on the metal part, which is the battery cover.

I guess, like Windows, if you load too much crap on it, it might cause some system instability. Me, I just use the apps bundled with the phone, as well as Windows Live, Google Maps and Gmail only. None of those problems happened with mine.

Wow, low light condition brings out the worse in the camera. Not that it functions any better in broad daylight. Check out my pics attached below. Absolutely crap.

Anyway, that goes to show, after 2 months of using this phone, now only play with the camera that I'm not the one to whip out his phone just to take snaps. I have my point and shoot for that.

uiks i've experienced it too this morning (auto restart)...hmm is it just a bug or it it just a way to free up memory? coz it didn't ask for SIM Password the way when you manually restart your phone.

[UPDATE] i noticed that the auto restart thing is not a model specific problem. it happens to other models as well, A lot of people had post the same problem in the E60-E61i-E90 and E65. Now i wonder...is it the Symbian OS problem?

Yay... Today is a very nice day. I've finally get my long awaited 4GB MicroSDHC Class 6 for my E51. Works great with my phone.

As for my MFOP still ain't going well... Hope I'll get good news from the seller. I rather get the screen protector than refund.

I can't think of any others to share as my experience with the phone is quite similar to the other E51 users here.
Well, except for mine is the first to be sent in to Nokia Care for a service... cry.gif
I was told that my phone circuit board is faulty and that's the root of the problem. Pretty lame... sweat.gif
Anyway, I would say it's user interface is responsive and easy to navigate.
Impressive features and functionality to cater most of your needs for business and some entertainment.
Namely, 3G, HSPDA, WiFi, VOIP, PDF and document viewers, Music & Video players etc.
The main reason I get the phone is because it's the cheapest WiFi phone I can find during my time of purchase.
In short, I think it's a really worthy buy for it's price tag and long list of features and functionality though it might not be the perfect phone for everyone but I think it's far more than enough for me.

Just a side note :
I've not been using a handphone ever since I lost my previous phone quite some time ago because I can't find a good replacement for it.
Once I get the E51, it's really a welcome sight for me as the interface is easy and straight forward.
Therefore, I've no problem at all navigating/figuring out most of the features/functions without the need of digging through the manuals. thumbup.gif

You know, I still haven't found a screen protector. My E51's screen is collecting scratches by the day. Let's hope the original screen protector that came with the phone can last a little bit longer.

Initially, I requested for a 1 to 1 exchange as my phone is less than one month old from the day of purchase.
However, they quickly denied my request and told me it must go through a series of tests and repairs before they even would consider for a 1 to 1.
I've no choice since I have paid so much for the phone and needed the phone so agreed to send in for the test and repair.
After that, the person added that it would take around 1 to 2 days for everything to be done and they'll call me for pickup once it's ready.
Surprsingly, they didn't even bother to call me after 2 days so I called them myself on Friday and was told that my phone is ready.
Therefore, I went to Plaza Berjaya to collect my phone.
Well, the phone works as usual at least after the repair and I did noticed they've removed my circiut board.
This is true to what they claimed because there're a lot of traces that my phone has been fully dismantled before.
In short, the phone should be ready since day 2 after I sent it in but they didn't call me after that so it's left there till Friday.

aww shucks.. yea... usually they won't allow 1-to-1 switch... so sometimes, it's really down to luck.

but as long as it is under warranty, then by all means, just send it it... 2 days, that's pretty quick biggrin.gif

anyone get a crystal case or pouch (horizontal/vertical flip) for your E51? I found a crystal case below from a website, but it seem hard to get in local shops with similar product.

E51 Crystal Case

from what I get from a review, there is a leather pouch bundled together. It is not inside my box, how about others?

Well, after such a long waiting period, I've finally received the MFOP for my E51. I'm abit disappointed with the packaging and overall finish of the product as it cost RM35 but it's giving the looks of RM5 screen protector that's being sold locally.

The measurements of the screen protector for the main screen and camera aren't as close to the stock proctector that come with the phone. Both are slightly shorter in terms of width. Anyway, it's still does it job as a screen protector, easy to apply and crystal clear. It doesn't collect bubbles during installation which is pretty amazing. It's very adhesive as I try to remove it with my finger nails because of some minor misalignent but to no avail. I haven't try the removal method stated on the guide as I can't find any scotch tape that's needed.

In short, if you don't really mind the slightly poor finishing and the expensive price tag, the MFOP will do its job.

That's true, at least there's some protection for the easily scratchable camera lens.
Well, if you don't mind the hefty price tag of RM35 you can order it from the BULK forum at LYN else you can wait for the cheaper release.
Anyway, sorry for not being able to show some pictures as the packaging is left at home.
I only managed to post this at my off-campus apartment since internet connection at my home is currently down.

If interested click here for ordering.

Hey guys, I sometimes receive sms's or calls with the +6 suffix and these will not show up as a Contact/Name even though I've stored both versions of that number (the regular non +6 and +6 number) in that respective Contact. Any way around this ? Thanks.

You meant prefix, didn't you? wink.gif

I am not sure about this, but I vaguely remember reading about some bug with 2 contacts with the same number giving problems to Nokia phones. I'm pretty anal about duplicates in my contacts, so I don't face that problem. Try removing one of the duplicates.

I have the same problem.. and so far it only happen to one of my contact. I only stored one entry in the contact. Still dumb-founded on the actual problem. Will update on any findings.. but great fone nonetheless.. thumbup.gif

Hahahaha! I think I terkena what you guys have been describing. It's like, I already have a person's details in my contact list. Then, every time I receive SMS or phone calls from that person, their name doesn't appear, correct?

i absolutely love my e51 to bits.... the shiny bit are a problem with fingerprints and scratches.. but my gf got me a cool black velvet type cover.. excellent.

love the e51

Yup, exactly like that, though for me it's mostly for those with the +6 prefix ( lol) that won't appear as a Contact. Guess will just have to live with it then....

No leh, funny thing is, ALL my contacts are listed in the form of +60123456789. The only difference is, with this problematic contact, I've added an additional mobile detail in it.

I use portable speakers,(ipod types) works fine for me thumbup.gif
u can slow down the volume yourself, after setting the alarm, either slow down your key volume
or jus make sure your ring setting is the 2nd lowest, works for me too.... rclxms.gif

i bought this audio converter from lelong but found that it is not really compatible with my E51. The situation is like this, if i FULLY plug in the converter and connect to a 3.5mm plug headphone, i can hear that audio sounds like in the water. If i pull it out a bit, the sounds is ok. what i suspect is the converter is compatible with other nokia hp like n95 but not e51. guys, any idea?

RM699 is if you sign up for Value Plan 150, RM999 if you sign up for Value plan 80. So if you did not plan to sign up to any of these plans, then there is nothing to sad of.

I would say the camera is pretty inferior. My 2-year old Panny VS7 took better 2 MP images than my current-gen E51. Anyway, that's isn't the E51's strong-point.

ekiddie, if you are looking for a cam-phone, you're reading the wrong thread.

I guess they had to skimp on a few details in order to squeeze down the price and the cam was one of the low priority areas. Apparently, there's going to be a no-cam version for those of us that work in secure facilities.

But apart from that, RM1k gets you WiFi, metal body, 3.5G, S60 3.1, decent screen, slim build, MS Exchange support, excellent build and layout.

anyone has comment on the adapter i'm looking for?

by the way, all the E51 users out there, how to adjust the phone so it wont go into standby mode (screensaver showing the digital clock), i found that the settings only allow to adjust 45 seconds to 90 seconds timeout. How to completely turn it off? this is useful when use certain feature like gps navigation. Thanks

PS: Was only kidding about the 1000-word review. Give you discount, 100-words only. biggrin.gif

Managed to get it on Saturday. Found a spot near the back. Got it for RM15. Installed it myself. Pretty ok job for an amateur. Nice and shiny. Not sure if it's really scratch-resistant or not. Dare not try it.

Maybe. But then again, I wouldn't know it if it was chrome-plated plastic 'cos it sure feels like metal.

Well i also think that the d pad is only chrome plated plastic as well coz there are few cases of peelings at the d pad. So those with sweaty hands better be careful

I think chrome-plate is pretty resistant to sweat. Using one's nails on the other hand...

Where are you connecting to? Corp WLAN? Home? Coffee shop? It's pretty fast for me, when either in the office or at home. YMMV when at public hotspots.

The WLAN is working fine for me.
The problem might be with the wireless connection that you're connecting to.

Well, if home connection is concerned, for me is definitely so far so good, no serious problems noticed.
As for college/university connection, mine really sucks big time. I always get disconnected all of a sudden.

Not so sure, but if nothing has changed since 1998, you should be able to use your UK mob here without unlocking. I used to be on Vodafone. Send me 10 quid and I'll mail you a pre-paid SIM to test out.

I started out with a drawstring pouch too. In the end, too lazy to take the trouble of taking it out and putting it back in every time a call comes in. In the end using it bareback, with a screen protector of course. smile.gif

Ooh, I wanna try. Let me back stuff up first. Will try it out and report back.

Added on June 12, 2008, 9:51 pmOK. Phone backed-up and raring to go...

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:30 pmZOMG! 81 MB!

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:31 pmDear boys and girls, remember to back your stuff up, 'cos the updating process will wipe everything and you'll have to restore a backup later.

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:32 pmFirmware version
Current: 100-34-20
Update: 200-34-36

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:38 pmUpdate started. Windows will detect some new hardware. Some actually failed installation. Let's hope nothing goes to hell.

/fingers crossed

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:41 pmUpdate complete! Now to take it for a swing and see what's new. Will hold off restoring the backup, just to have that new phone feeling again. wink.gif

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:45 pmHot damn! It's pretty darn fast! Minor delays from the initial firmware isn't noticeable now!

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:51 pmOK, happy with the new firmware. Now to restore an old backup.

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:52 pmPhone seems to be missing PC Suite Support after the flash. Hmmm... Will try reinstalling.

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:55 pmAh, it was pretty painless.

Added on June 12, 2008, 10:55 pmNow restoring backups. Let's hope Exchange is restored properly.

Added on June 12, 2008, 11:03 pmWow. Even after restoring the backup, the phone is still pretty darn fast. Now, it may be a placebo effect, but I do indeed notice the speed bump. Why don't you guys give it a spin and let me know how it swings for ya.

Over and out!

Added on June 12, 2008, 11:13 pmWowzers. Maps 2.0 is pretty darn fast too!

Congrats on you. Now i guess its my turn next. But i have one question. I have installed lots of software such as core player, dictionaries, Java games, papyrus etc. Will that get backed up too or do i have to install all over again?

If you choose to select all the available options to backup including external memory card when prompted by the phone backup software, it should make an exact duplicate of all the contents of your phone. Anyway, I'm not 100% confirm for those 3rd party software installed but if data such as docs, mails, mp3s etc are concerned, they will definitely remain intact as it is.

Added on June 13, 2008, 11:10 amI have encountered a weird problem with my E51 Windows Live Messenger and Mail. They can't connect to the server for some reason although web browsing is absolutely fine.

Error message returned:
"Sign-In Failure"
"Windows Live is temporarily unable to connect. This may be because your phoneis in the 'Offline Mode' or you do not have a data connection. Please check your access point and network settings and try again."

Any idea or suggestion for this weird problem?

Problem solved after the firmware update.
Anyway, I did not backup the previous phone settings as I afraid corrupted settings might be the cause.
So, all the phone settings are reset to default after the update and Windows Live works flawlessly as usual after I redownloaded it.
Thanks

It feels rather like the phone is having a fresh start.
Something like the feeling of using a new unit.
That's what it feels after the update aside from fixing my Windows Live connection problem.
Anyway, it might be that I'm insensitive to the changes.
Try it out yourself maybe you have some other experience.

Yup, that's the app to use. Bundled apps will be lost when you flash, hence the need to do a full backup before updating the phone's fw.

New firmware is great. my hp seem getting better response time in application. Found that some app might need to reinstall after the flash.

Anyway, just install Nokia Map 2. It is superb. smooth map browsing... guys you should try it out.

Just bought my E51. I'm switching from an E60.

The screen resolution of the E60 (352x416 vs 240x320) has really spoiled me. Look how the extra pixels makes email reading much easier..

I doubt they will take it in. Perhaps smaller shops my repair it for you for a fee. YMMV, so best to ask before you plonk. Give either Zitron or Avaxx a call.

Went to 2 nokia shop at penang,
they said didn't have,
and a friend's hp phone called his ori phone supplier,
said have it but RM1070 for the phone,
and have the rose gold model....

I think i will go for another option,
get it from singapore for Rm960 with black colour one...
the rose gold colour seems doesn't suite me...

I'm planning to get one as my birthday present.

Any shops that sell this at better rate?

What will you suggest, either AP or ori?
(I was thinking on ori, perhaps higher quality)

It's a Maxis thing. Unless you've used your SIM on another phone and 3G works fine, then it's the phone.

have anyone experience intermittent mute problem?

like when you called someone up, they can't hear what you are saying. but you can hear them clearly. so i need to cancel the call then dial again.

another thing is, if you notice. the old nokia map which comes with early batch of e51 has more pin point places in the maps. eg, restaurant and etc. try search for mungo jerry.

when i updated to the new one nokia map 2. and i install the maps using map loader. the new maps sucks. lesser details. don't have mungo jerry. kanina!!~!

Come to think about it, when I forced Gmail to always use HTTPS, the Gmail app on my E51 fails to connect, and when I changed the setting back to none, it connects. The Nokia browser probably doesn't fully support secure sites.

Not abnormally warm, if that's what you are worried about. Perhaps it's the metal lining the phone and the battery cover.

attempt to update latest firmware with NSU.

in the mid of process, screen was turned on but nothing showed, and heard repeating sounds of usb cable connection tone in windows (this tone sounds when attempt to plug and unplug an usb device).

now, NSU showed update failure, and my mobile remain in blank screen only... no more colorful interface. cry.gif
My previous experience was smooth and everything get done in simple steps... but no this time..

guys, anyone experience this... my E51 is a zitron set. where I can request assistance in Klang Valley??

Is there a new FW out? Mine's 220.34.37.

Well, if you have a Zitron set, I'm sure you can send it to any of the repair centres. Have you tried calling the folks who sold you the set? Or take a look at your warranty card, there should be a number listed there.

Good luck!

found a user in E71 thread having same issue in upgrading firmware. Seems there might a risk of upgrading with NSU.

My Location (beta). My Location shows your current location on the map, usually within 1,000 metres, so that you can find out where you are even without GPS. Google Maps for mobile also supports built-in GPS, or can link to a Bluetooth GPS sensor to more accurately pinpoint a user's location. My Location works by recognising information broadcast from mobile towers near you.

yup, not many ppl buying coz of the camera just 2MP,
but in term of loading speed and processing speed,
i think it pawn those N series with similiar price range.

I am using E51 camera free edition ^^
but thinking to sell it though...
