yeah agreed, they shud just take out the 18inch rim and the pss4 man lol. I really dont need that 😂

Will ppl call me crazy if i swap out my 18inch with V spec 17inch lol.
*
I read before and also watch some reviewers mentioned on youtube (during FE initial launch) that Honda already calibrated the steering and handling to the stock wheel size. If you were to change the wheel size yourself it would affect the handling, just not sure how signifcant is the affect

really itchy to place my booking also.... this is really all i asked for the Civic since it launched last year

but common sense and rationalist mind is telling me to wait until mid or end of next year before pulling the gun.

i) my new house is almost ready so there's gonna be big spending for me there as well.
ii) since this is the first time HM is CKDing this hybrid system here (2.0 i-mmd), maybe its better to wait and see if there would be any issues. Also the engine itself is considered a new engine from Honda.

Financial prudence is really something every individual has to manage...
But regarding
ii) I'd say it is a world wide system especially already launched for months in Europe, so at least not so "new". Recall also that hybrids are already part of Honda line up for donkey years, even Malaysia. Generically the 2.0l i-mmd has been used since 2013 in US accord and 2016 in Japanese Odyssey.
*
'Months' to me is still considered relatively new for a complex drivetrain system biggrin.gif

Also I-MMD is really different from the prior hybrids of Honda (IMA and I-DCD). The 2.0 I-MMD system is not new technically you're right, but the one in the Civic have a new engine. The 2.0 direct injection engine is different from the one used in Accord and Odyssey. It also has a high compression ratio of 13.9:1 (according to specs on Thai website). For comparison the Mazda Skyactiv G 2.0 engine have a compression ratio of 14:1

Correct me if im wrong anyway.... because from all the press release for the Civic eHEV i read it like they are making a point its a new engine or they just made some tweaks to it

Not really new engine, it was already on honda accord hybrid and crv somewhere else in the world. It was engine of the year 2019? I think HM test market with city and hrv. The sales was immense, hence civic ehev, which is this time is more powerful than 1.5T. I think the digital panel itself cost 3-4k already lol.

Ohh new as in the 2.0 is diff abit lol. Direct injection is like GDi engine?
*
Correct. But correct me also if im wrong

The system used for Accord and Odyssey have the code LFA1, LFB1, LFB-13 or LFB-H4 depending on the market and model.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_R_engine

The code for the system in Civic eHEV is LFC2 according to those who checked in Thailand

From Pauline article when the Civic eHEV was first revealed

QUOTE
As previously speculated, the e:HEV hybrid gets the most powerful version of Honda’s Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD), also found in the Accord Hybrid. The electric motor driving the front wheels makes 135 kW (184 PS) and 315 Nm of torque and is juiced by a 2.0 litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder.

Unlike the one in the Accord, the petrol mill is direct-injected and as such should be more powerful, leading to even higher combined outputs. No specs have been released for the engine, but the unit in the Accord makes 145 PS at 6,200 rpm and 175 Nm at 3,500 rpm, leading to a total power figure of 215 PS. Honda says it has made several tweaks to achieve a stratospheric thermal efficiency of 41%.

Fair enough.
Spec wise i wouldn't even bother considering Mazda
Price wise i think both about same 160-170k? That's why no need consider this, just look at previous point.

Driving wise, electric hybrid torque, globally designed chassis and suspensions, multi link rear suspension.

Very VERY hard for Asia BMW to beat.
But, I'm only assumption since I've not had the chance to drive one personally.

It's a bit of a assumption as well from my minor disappointment on the MX5 Miata driving experience.
And it's not Mazda's fault, more towards how my expectations were set too high.
I obviously prefer manual handbrake lever

But that's because of the car i drive lol
*
I would prefer you go test drive Corolla. Would like to hear your thoughts on it. Personally for me Corolla is highly underrated when it comes to C segment handling. People mostly laugh when I say the Corolla outhandles the Mazda 3. Cant blame them though, that car had always have the image of being a boring, no brainer, everyday car. Same goes to almost every car in Toyota line up actually

I have test driven the Corolla. Yes, it handles superbly. It also absorbs bumps well. Very stable entry and exit, flat across the corner. However as soon as you done your corner entry nicely, and position to exit, you will be disappointed by the lack of torque.
And yes, Corolla cross is damn good in ride and handling too.

The Corolla is not underrated, if anything the price makes it over rated. If it was 20k less, I would've bought it already.
*
I mean underrated when it comes to handling and ride only. Many people dismiss this as soon they see its a Toyota Corolla. Agree with everything else for its cons, the price (cant help it since its CBU), the engine (seriously UMW), and personally I dont like that interior design especially the dashboard made worse by the CRT TV

I didn't know back then, but if I knew I would've given Corolla a harder look, based on its ability to do autonomous driving with Comma.AI.
It is way better than Civic FE in steering torque and ability to navigate halfway into incoming cross traffic.

Honda sensing only doing LKAS at >70kmh is very meh to me.
*
When it comes to active safety and autonomy, Toyota Safety Sense always came up top in reviews amongst the Japanese brands

Yea. There’s A LOT to LIKE with the Civic. Honestly if I weren’t spoiled by Mazda driving experience, I would fall in love with the Civic.

Now, I said that I like the car but I still haven’t fall in love with it. I could accept every minor nitpicks (including the low res lanewatch) but the seats and the switching gear with the knob is a concern. Im worried I might get back pain when driving. I wonder if theres a shop that can make the seat softer.

With every positive points that came from the Civic RS, let see if the e:HEV could really make me switch from M to H and then which one will come first.

If Mazda 3 is the Asia BMW, Civic will be the Asia Volvo.
*
Asia Volvo should be Subaru instead, if you compare their company philosophy especially safety. But their design is just biggrin.gif

Its perfectly normal to aspire, I think Honda can aspire to whatever they want. Aim for the stars land on the moon. But fact is the richest people on earth (USA) who buy the most Civic in the world, treat this like a entry level car much like our protons. Either parents of young youth on their first free cars or everyday man on the street. It will be designed for these 2 types of users, and they don't really even care too much about the car, as long as it drives and saves petrol and is safe. Should Honda start designing the car to really challenge a Benz, it will change the purchasing habits of their biggest customers and we will not be talking about the same car anymore. As of today, whatever we have is whatever bare minimum they want. Does an everyday man obsess over ICE head unit - no.
*
that's why they have Acura in the US for that. But so far none of the Asian brands except Lexus came close to challenge the Germans when it comes to perceived brand premium.

remember a comment from someone before - "its easy to make a premium car, but its hard to convince people your brand is premium"

My brain keep thinking of Civic now. It tries to convince me that Civic is the better car. Theres nothing wrong with it. And I shouldn't regret picking it over the M. LOL

Heart still not convince.

Wallet remain neutral.

*having an internal war right now.

The good ol dilemma of 'the brain vs the heart' when it comes to buying cars

Have to take note as well the fuel tank capacity for the eHEV is smaller, at 40L. Which is just 5L more than my A segment car. But if the fuel consumption is much better (which it should) then it shouldn't be a problem. You get cheaper fuel up sessions everytime as well, 30L+ of fuel is just RM61+ at current price

not sure will better quality fuel helps in managing this direct injection engine or not. there is a option for me to pumping vpower at brunei which is .95bnd/litre. I did feel the engine is much smoother and less vibration compare ron95 for my proton preve cfe.
*
Need refer Mazda owners how they take care of their Skyactive engines especially the 2.0 variant, since they're both direct injection and high compression ratio engines, only difference is the Honda engine is Atkinson cycle. I read before the Skyactive engines tend to have more serious carbon deposits built up issues compared to other engines

Hyundai to me personally, it just throwing money poaching talent lol.
*
Hyundai and Kia to me is still highly underrated as a whole due to the fact that people often dismiss / underestimate them due to the branding alone. What they could achieve today considering their age deserves praise. Of course that boils down to what you mentioned.... money and talent. If anyone is interested, you guys can study about Hyundai's Smartstream and Smartsense tech. It really is something that should be mentioned and discussed more like Toyota's Dynamic Force and Mazda's Skyactive

On the other hand I've also met/saw fanboys of the brand that oversell their achievements so that's not really helping its reputation as well

QUOTE(tctham @ Oct 19 2022, 03:28 PM)
Tried to consider their cars, but they are kinda like

built quality above mazda,
price point above mazda,
interior size similar to mazda
engine performance below toyota,

build quality: overall interior and esp the door, feels quite good (if compared against same segment, not compare against same price point)
price point: it's waaay too expensive compared to rival offerings
interior: i noticed the interior is a little too tight. C segment (elantra) feels like city.
engine / features: for such a steep price point, we malaysians are forced to choose, either having a decent engine or having features
take elantra/sonata for example.
elantra has most of the bells and whistle, even the active safety systems, but given a 1.6L NA engine. even in corolla, the 1.8L NA already being frowned upon
sonata has 2.5L NA, decent power against its rival, but has stripped most of the nice features away.

the kona, higher priced than HRV, smaller size than HRV. but at least there is safety feature and engine is decently specced.

kia optima gt, nice spec, nice engine (on paper), but the seat base is short.. felt very uncomfortable for me and my family..
*
Hopefully we get more better spec'ed and priced Korean cars from now especially Kia since Bermaz took over and CKD operation is resumed. But unfortunately i think the choice will be limited to crossovers / SUVs and MPVs.

Speaking about the Elantra 1.6 engine. I actually had a go in that car (quite a lengthy session as well because my friend is a car reviewer and he had a review unit from Hyundai that time). I honestly dont feel its underpowered at all... and this is with 3 adults including me in the car. Not sure what sorcery did Hyundai did or maybe like some had said to me before, I'm too accustomed to my 1.2L puny car's power. But I still standby my opinion that that car is something you should test drive before judging it on paper.

But but, Mazda driving experience triumphs all! And Mazda resale value is better than Korean
tongue.gif Yea kinda miss this sort of discussion from Mazda 3 thread.
*
Bout the resale value part, I dont think it is entirely true if you were to compare Mazda 3 with Elantra or Cerato from the same year. Take into consideration both the Koreans are selling cheaper than the Mazda 3 as well iinm. Even if the Koreans are lower, it is just slightly and not far off

Mazda 3 thread is basically a place to ask "where is my car" now tongue.gif

Well, my last taste of Sepang was back in 2019. how's that for nostalgia? talk is easy la, and all i have right now is just being nostalgic walking down memory lane.
still building up my wealth so i can return back in action, originally planned end of  2022, but it seems very unlikely as another criteria crop up which is my new condo completion at Bukit Jalil area so i can move back KL from Melaka.
*
congrats on your new house btw. I'm currently in Bukit Jalil as well, but will be moving in to a new place soon at Old Klang Road so not that far off

if not for the damm house I would've gotten a new ride by now. But getting a house is really mostly a brain over heart decision so no regrets there

QUOTE(lee82gx @ Oct 19 2022, 05:09 PM)
Its true, when i say I test the car at the limit I didn't even reach its limit (Traction control or no traction control). Which is a good thing. Remember I wasn't even trying to drive fast. I just wanted to know if the car has weird behaviours that make me scared to perform radical maneuvers in case of emergency. That is good handling to me. I'm not even sorry if car jockeys think I accidentally represented them in testing a car for go fast in a corner, for which I am not qualified and not interested to do.
Example of bad handling cars - Honda CRV, X50, Nissan Grand Livina, various other SUVs except Corolla Cross.

I admit got "good" FF cars, but if ever I were to buy a car for sports, and I admit I am not interested in this, it will be one that can oversteer when I step on the pedal. Anything else just won't make me excited. AWD also can, in rally mode which will again be wrong sport for me. In essence I want one that reminds me to break on time, steer well, control the throttle, clip the apex and THEN floor it. Boring, yeah.
On the subject of Hyundai, I look at the price, I already no mood to buy elantra. One does not go kimchi without sufficient encouragement money wise.

I was close to evaluating an Ioniq but the way Hyundai abandoned ship - Platform (went EV, went SUV), factory (Stop kulim CKD) makes me shiver. You don't wanna be holding a car with no after sales service, especially from Sime Darby + Korea. Look what they did to Chevrolet. You can get a Chevy for price of a bicycle these days, because there are no spare parts. Same thing they did to Ford.

And, the way Naza/Bermaz, Vincent Tan holds the Kia license, it is so damn messy with Sime Darby holding the other half of the Hyundai license. None are really interested in sedans, and to me it is a recipe for disaster. You really don't want a car that 5 years no one spare part dealer recognize.
*
Agree about the pricing part, but spare parts was never an issue for the Korean makes, just ask any post 2010s Hyundai and Kia owners. And this is speaking as a current Kia owner myself. There's a few shops that specializes in Korean car spare parts already. You can say the parts are slightly more expensive compared to equivalent Honda or Toyotas one since its easier to source cheaper OEM parts for those brands, but supply was never an issue

also the cars are mostly more reliable than Contis so its one less worry there also

I've been in owner clubs for both Picanto and Cerato, there's always the argument towards RV, FC etc, but never or rarely about spare parts issue. Funnily enough the brand that get the most complaint about this now is P1 which have significantly more market share than any of the cold brands

but I get the point you're trying to make, I just felt it applies more to those newer China brands eg: Haval, Chery that are starting to pop up here and the really cold euro brands like Citroen

*
I already kinda predicted Honda Malaysia's plan from the day they released the Turbo RS, then the moment Civic eHEV is confirmed to be in the plans, I am fully confident they are gonna leave all the goodies for the eHEV model. From marketing point of view, its a pretty smart move as they need some convincing points for people to consider the hybrid. Probably 8 or 9 out of 10 people would've gone for the Turbo if it featured the same full spec as the eHEV

Sell Turbo RS now while the RV and demand still strong? tongue.gif I believe some who are desperate for a car would grab it

Sedan Civic RS e:HEV officially revealed in Thailand

*replace pauline keyword*/2022/03/25/2022-honda-civic-ehev-hybrid-revealed-for-thailand-asean-gets-sedan-with-same-2-0l-di-rm144k-rm159k/

Some observation on the exterior... 1 exhaust only instead of dual like the 1.5T units currently.

Will be launching officially over there on June. Guess will arrive our shore around end of year or Q1 2023 if HM decides to bring this in? Hopefully they are reserving the full digital driver display for it

Not sure if they are ready to CKD this though, since its a different hybrid unit than the one in City RS. Gonna be very expensive if they CBU from Thai
