You can try feeding it more lamb than chicken based kibbles.Dog Kibbles (Discussion), Which brand do you feed your furkid?

QUOTE(blessedfin @ Mar 2 2008, 11:15 AM) hm i think short haired dogs.. like pug, beagle, dachshund, bloodhound.. Yea, lamb based kibbles are better than chicken based. That's what I was told and what everyone seems to know but scientifically, I do not know the reason why. Possibly because chicken are sometimes injected with hormones?bare in mind, they intend to get skin diseases than any other breed.. this cause by their short hair.. and the tropical weather .. but if your dog get enough nutrition, weekly bath then i guess it may be the dog is allergic to something some dogs are allergic to chicken.. Pennywise quote i think lamb and rice are good for dogs ^^ i fed my dogs with lamb and rice based kibbles. do you give your dog homecooked food ? or kibbles? have u try to go to the vet and ask? Yes, I do give my dog homecooked food sometimes. I will cook them simple dishes. Minced meat + egg and minimal oil, just cook like that and pour it on top of the kibbles and let them eat. But it's seldom I do that because I believe kibbles are more balanced diet for dogs. |

It's hard to find this brand, so far I've only seen it at Seapark Pet Supplies in SS2. It is indeed a very good brand of dog food and my furkids had finished at 7kg and 15kg. Now, I am changing to Blackwood 3000 (Lamb) for a change of taste.but now i heard veterinary try changed 2 brand NATURAL BALANCED more healthy... 2KG++ RM34.......... anyone heard b4?? One reason its not in the list is that it is TOO EXPENSIVE. Possibly the most expensive dog food in the market.she say more healthy cos many brand cookies use chicken liver....................... She say NATURAL BALANCED all use fresh meat n vegetable............. Added on March 4, 2008, 11:22 amY list dn hav ROYAL CANIN ??????????? |

That I do not know but I know blackwood packs a punch so you dont have to give that much like you give it with normal kibbles. Orijen, Blackwood, Innova Evo, you can give less a bit.

I just opened my 15kg Blackwood 3000 for Casper and Moonie. It's Lamb flavored and they like it, for now at least. Put down the bowl and they start eating immediately. Previously, they will drag and waste time until later afternoon only eat. Moonie dont like it as much as Casper does, she eats them but not immediately.
I think I'm going for a medium pack next as 15kg is quite a lot, can eat 3 months. Scared not fresh later. |

Natural Balance by d*** Van Patten is a good dog food. California Natural is great too but I've heard Hun mentioned that it's quite bland.
Of course, fish flavored kibbles are more expensive. Evo is great like Orijen, it has high protein content. Innova is the minor version of Evo. I think you made a good choice with Natural Balance. Casper and Moonie just finished (2 bags of 15kg) 30kg of Natural Balance before I swapped to 15kg Blackwood 3000. |

Casper and Moonie took bath today. After bath, we feed them. They are on Blackwood Chicken now (Blackwood 3000).
We poured out a handful of kibbles onto each dog bowl. Then we poured hot water on them to make them soft fast. Before we even add the canned food, we saw W-O-R-M-S crawling out of the kibbles. We were shocked. I bought 15kg Blackwood (orange color bag) before CNY. The expiry date is Dec 2008. We poured 1/4 into a non-air tight container. We poured another 2/4 into those gold color tin (buy from pasar malam cookie seller). We have nowhere to put the remaining 1/4, so we left it in the bag and just tie rubber-band. Usually, when the non-air tight container runs out, we will refill from the bag, so when the bag finish, can throw away the bag. We dont open the ones in the gold tin. While refilling and pouring onto the dog bowl, we discovered worms. So we threw the 1/4 that was in the bag. I went out to buy Eaglepack Salmon & Fruits. I am going to check the remaining Blackwood 3000 in the gold tin from pasar malam to see if there's worm there too. Added on April 22, 2008, 10:18 pmMy dad advised buy two small bag of kibbles - different flavor (example: Chicken and Fish). Feed them chicken in the morning, fish in the evening. I think it's a pretty good idea but I'm wondering if their tummy will be able to take it. By the way, has anyone ever seen a dog kibbles dispenser that comes with a timer? I am looking for one of these. This post has been edited by Pennywise: Apr 22 2008, 10:18 PM |

Cool cool... sometimes just too lazy to wake up on Sat / Sun mornings to feed them because those are about the only times I can sleep. THerefore, thought about the time pet food dispenser.
Anyway, my dad advised buy two small bag of kibbles - different flavor (example: Chicken and Fish). Feed them chicken in the morning, fish in the evening. I think it's a pretty good idea but I'm wondering if their tummy will be able to take it. |

QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Apr 22 2008, 11:53 PM) i thought of that b4 but then i decided against it just in case his tummy upsets too much... Because my pack of Blackwood 3000 screwed up with worms, I went and buy Eaglepack Salmon and Fruits today. I am going to open the pack tomorrow. THis weekend, I will check my remaining Blackwood 3000 in the golden tin.im finishing regal now and going to change to orijen soon... many say orijen smells very nice and i guess i won have any problem making him eat that if mikey is ok with the orijen dy, then im going to dig some money to buy a gd air tight container to fill 7kg++ orijen Yes, I am worried about tummy upset too. QUOTE(angelgurl_nee @ Apr 23 2008, 12:07 AM) Oh yea me too. These things dont come cheap. I think there is one container sold in Jusco called Lock and Load or something... Squarish type with blue plastic corners. My friend's gf use this to tapao soup and each time it roll in the car also wont spill. That's great but $$$ pricey! It doesnt fill up to 7kg though. From now on, I wont buy 15kg dog kibbles liao. 3kg or 7kg max. Blackwood all spoilt, wasted. Some more buy the Blackwood last time kena con. I went PJ and ppl wanna sell me RM153. Then, I came to this shop called Ramsden in Bkt Tinggi, Klang. I asked price and told them PJ quote me RM153. They said got discount la, opening discount, etc. Said RM146 I think. OK lor, I buy. Then, her colleague swipe my credit card for RM168 without ANY discount. Then tell me sorry, her previous colleague who quoted me gave me wrong price. That price at RM168 is veli cheap liao. So there kena scam, and now all rotten. I will never stop into that shop again and never buy 15kg again. I know Blackwood is a good brand and I will continue to buy it but in smaller packages. |

So far, I have tried many brands:
Nutrisource NutriEdge Blackwood Orijen Acana Evanger Innova Natural Balance Eaglepack I think Natural Balance is what I feed most to my furkid, next to Evanger. The least favorite for Casper is Eaglepack. The least favorite by Moonie is Blackwood. QUOTE(crazymouse_yyh @ Apr 24 2008, 10:01 PM) Orijen may affect dogs with sensitive skin. So you must check if your dog has sensitive skin such as rashes.... So far my dogs no problem with Orijen. Only a few dogs have negative results so far. Yes, this was what happened with Casper because believed to be protein content too high. I wonder if the same will happen to Moonie. I bought a bag of Eaglepack Salmon + Fruits. Next I am going for old brand, Nutri Source. Maybe some day I will revert back to Orijen. Haha..QUOTE(remymj @ Apr 24 2008, 10:03 PM) Blackwood is quite good one, should not have problems with your furkid.QUOTE(elsie2602 @ Apr 25 2008, 09:52 AM) Eaglepack also OK but my Casper dont like it.QUOTE(remymj @ Apr 25 2008, 10:20 AM) eagle pack for puppy ar? Orijen is like the most popular brand now because it was listed as a 6 star dog food in the dog food review website.then i m not so sure! i hear the forumer suggest orijen quite nice so i decide wana buy small pack for my baby lo... cooper eat a lot ma?how many session for daily meal? |

Yes, dont need to refer to the instruction behind the bag so tight one. My one cup of those cups from Science Plan can feed 2 furkids is enough and most of the time, they dont finish also.
remymj, I have tried those I listed above and Orijen is OK but not suitable for Casper since he got sensitive skin. I may try again in the near future to see if it makes any difference now. |
