Personally I don't recommend Dell except for its XPS high end model or real business model.

I prefer HP or Lenovo.

May I know the reasons and what specific models of HP or Lenovo brands you recommend within rm3.5k?

Sorry I do not have a specific model to recommend.

You can just search online store and sort by price high to low or limit the range of price.

Get a model you like then search for review.

For RAM most laptop can be upgrade so don't limit yourself to the model with exact RAM capacity. Look for the maximum RAM it can support.

Another thing to consider is the screen. This you will have to see yourself at the physical device so it is better if you can take some time and go to lowyat to check out the model you want.

You can look for other brand no problem, that's just my personal preference.

I think that's awesome deal, I'd buy it. Dell is US company and with great support, I would go with Dell for this reason.

Sorry i don't research much on budget laptop.
Normally for budget laptop, I will flip the laptop and see its thermal cooling, and its built-in screen is SRGB 99% (I don't like 72%)
And you might also youtube check how it's the battery life.

Also most budget laptop price is roughly around the same price. The best thing you want is to have local service center near your area. Not advice to get those can be serviced in KL.

1. Budget : RM3K-4K
2. Usage : University student in mass comm, trying to get something in between easy to carry while still being powerful enough for light gaming
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : screen size dont matter, 1080p 60hz is good enough

Hi all!

Would need recommendation for laptop for my 4 y.o. son. Intend to teach him chess. So perhaps some lightweight, budget offering would do. Not so sure if I should explore refurbished laptop and/or PC (we already got unused monitor at home) offerings, to get best bang for the buck.

Budget range? - 1k to 1.5k.
Specific use? - Playing (online) chess.
Specific brand? - Any.
Screen size? - Any.
Weight and portability? - Any.

Much obliged.

Looks good. But do they have one with matte display? Glossy display is difficult to view in outdoor or office lightning.

Spec wise, Lenovo seems better value. 13th gen CPU, better display color gamut and 1 TB SSD. And larger battery according to their website spec respectively.
