They will obviously not be 8800GTS fast.
Remember nVidia + ATI trying to milk so much out of the DX10 midrange market?

8700 will probably have 64 stream processors instead of 96/32 of 8800/8600, speeds might be a bit higher, but performance will not touch 8800.

The superoverclocked ones might overtake the stock 8800, but as you know, there's overclocked 8800s too.

Errr.... 7800GTX is more than enough for current games.  nod.gif

If you read reviews on Bioshock and DX10, the only difference between DX10 and DX9 in that game is the soft edges. Other than that, there are no other noticeable differences.

My advice is to wait for newer DX10 games that take advantage of DX10 features e.g. crysis....  smile.gif
News is saying that they will launch the G92 first, to fill the gap between the 8600 and 8800 cards. As such, they are supposed to be slower than the 8800 series GC....
*
7800 GTX's performance is awesome, but DX10 games (that I have thus far)...
Company of Heroes
BioShock
Flight Sim X DX10 patch

I just don't understand... why these guys release DX10 GPUs when there are so little games to take advantage of...
I read http://www.gamespot.com/features/6177688/p-5.html
and found that THE ONLY noticable difference between DX9 and DX10 in BioShock are that the water effects are slightly different...

DX9 and DX10 in Bioshock is barely noticable, heck I can even bet most people won't be bother with the details when they are playing the game. DX10 still have quite a long way to go because developers know how to fully utilize it, its still not as mature as DX9. I wonder if that will totally change once the 9 series comes out. hmm.gif

Yeah, that's the reason why I think you can still wait. I'm sure crysis would show better utilization of DX10 features.... nod.gif

DX10 is MUCH more obvious than pictures can tell.

Bioshock looks much better in DX10- the lighting's a lot subtler, textures are a little sharper (may be placebo) and the water is much more gorgeous than this.

For now only COJ DX10 that obviously different from its DX9 version. But with no thorough optimization it might be very graphics power hungry.

actually by those pictures alone id rather go DX10 for bioshock than DX9

the difference though subtle...is absolutely gorgeous.

most obvious difference is the water. but if u see the last 2 pix, the shadow on the floor is much sharper in DX10 than DX9

now i just need to find some friggin time to install vista.

actually the water effect for DX9 bioshock is awful. there other DX9 games that have better water effect than this. i think it's just a reason for Irrational to make it look bad on DX9 but fix it a bit on DX10.

the one different i can see is better smoke or transparencies. no more "layer" or smoke. but hardly volumetric to me....

guys...between X2600 XT and 8600GT....
from what i've read..8600GT is better right? i mean..most of them said with AA..8600GT outperforms the 2600XT?

Anyway i think I'll stick to 8600GT in my shopping list. tongue.gif

he u are going for HD video , suggest go for HD2k series . low cpu usage compare to 86
but overall performance (game), the 86 outperform than HD26
