Yeah. Downloaded WHQL / Beta, none of the drivers work. It simply says 'hardware not supported' or not recognised. Googled around and found many users having the same issues. The documentation that comes with the Forceware drivers DO NOT put 8600M in their list. This is worrying.

Anyways, as for the 8800 GTS, I am planning of getting the 320Mb version due to my display resolution. Mine goes upto 1280x1024 only, and not 1600x1200. I know the GPU will go superbly with my 3.2GHz Pentium D dual-core and 2Gb memory with Vista ultimate.  However the price is just staying... paying RM1k+ for a GPU is quite a pain... [I am using a 7800GTX, which cost me a lot last year]. I thought of getting 8600 GT or 8600 GTS, but it would be almost downgrading my computer.

320MB can't even handle Call of Juarez at 1280*1024 DX10, or 1280*1024 DX9 with AA nicely.
Seriously suggest that you don't.

Or better wait for 8700GTS with 512MB thumbup.gif

Slideshow.

96 Nvidia SPs are the least ammount needed to run CoJ nicely.

Aa ha.... well then I will use 640x480 or 800x600... with AA
I enjoy playing games even at 640x480 or 800x600 WITH AA, the graphics on screen look a bit blurrish, further taking away 'jagged' looks, fine example is DiRT which I just can't stop playing.

First, I thought of getting an 8600 GT... I was told not to... get the 8800 GTS 320Mb
Then, I finally decided its the 8800 GTS 320Mb I should get after various reviews and feedbacks
Now, even the 8800 GTS 320Mb isn't good enough? Nothing will ever be good enough except two 8800 Ultra in SLi mode

I ain't rich... and 'affordability' is one the buying points here, the 320Mb 8800 GTS almost fits my budget, almost, not quite just yet... anything more expensive and I would just say sayonara and grab an 8600 GT/GTS...

Unfortunates:
1. 640MB WILL be enough, I saw someone selling a 640MB second hand for RM10++/1100, too late. laugh.gif
2. I might have sold my 2900XT if the newer quieter ones came, but after the FireGL mod... nah. tongue.gif

Wait until the new 9 series comes out then get a 8800 640MB. In the meanwhile, get a 8600GT to resume blurry playing. tongue.gif

Well, money does matter.... For those with tight budget should wait for 8700GTS or HD2950PRO
*
They aren't gonna be cheap; 8700GTS is going to sell at 250USD, 2900Pro might be slower and cheaper, but not 8600GTS cheap.

I think it's pretty reasonable for anyone spending at least RM1000 to spend a bit more so that their card might last longer- with highest settings that it. laugh.gif

Because it's trying to compete with the 8800GTS (the fastest ones).

2600XT GDDR4 is RM550. GTS is RM650-750. 8700 is 750-900.
2900 Pro (October, RUMORED FireGL only) is expected to be around RM700-800 (If it comes out) because it's half a 2900XT.
2950 Pro is much later (early January), but it's a new chip and is supposed to bring near 2900XT performance at 200-250USD, competing with the 8700GTS.

They will obviously not be 8800GTS fast.
Remember nVidia + ATI trying to milk so much out of the DX10 midrange market?

8700 will probably have 64 stream processors instead of 96/32 of 8800/8600, speeds might be a bit higher, but performance will not touch 8800.

The superoverclocked ones might overtake the stock 8800, but as you know, there's overclocked 8800s too.

DX10 is MUCH more obvious than pictures can tell.

Bioshock looks much better in DX10- the lighting's a lot subtler, textures are a little sharper (may be placebo) and the water is much more gorgeous than this.

That info is fake I think (So far NO info at all on Purevideo 3.0)

1 thing important: NO Tri-SLI on graphics cards with 1 sli dongle slot. You need 2. IIRC the GT only has one, so there goes your exotic dreams.
Want that, get the *new* (128Shader?) 8800GTS instead.
