I didnt save the steps i posted as PM to Calvin, i hope he can see this and repost it here . Cal, are you there?

You need MPEG Streamclip + Quicktime for this, Charlton. Get them at www.squared5.com and www.apple.com respectively.

Nevermind, i have it as a quoted text from the replies. Here it is:-

1 - Install Streamclip
2 - Open Streamclip
3 - Open a supported file format by using "Open Files" on the "File" column. Let it load. Dont play it.
4 - click "File", and click "Export to Quicktime". A config menu will appear.
5 - On the Compression drop down menu, choose "H.264".
6 - Slide the quality slider all the way to 100% for maximum goodness
7 - Choose "Other" on the Frame size and pick 640 x 480. You can play around with other frame sizes, as long as it does not exceed 640x480.
8 - Click "Make Movie", go have a coffee or rest. If your movie is of weird aspect ratio, eg; panoramic widescreen like the Matrix movies, you may need to play around with the frame size. Click "Preview" to see if the aspect ration is correct, if this is the case.
9 - Save as your chosen title name, and let the conversion to Quicktime begin.

After conversion, open Quicktime.

10 - Load the freshly made Quicktime movie from previous process into Quicktime.
11 - Click "File", choose "Export"
12 - On the Export drop down menu, choose either "Movie to iPod" or in the later versions, "Movie to iPhone". Do not choose "Movie to iPhone cellular".
13 - Pick a chosen filename, and start the conversion.
14 - Drag and drop the finished .m4v file onto iTunes and sync your iTunes with your iPod Touch. Enjoy flawless pristine movie.

Do you guys think apple will increase itouch storage capacity in the next 12 or 18 month? I planned to buy one, buy 16GB is not enough for me. And i don't want after 1 year using it, larger storage model is introduced. RM1700 is pretty big for me smile.gif

just look at the back of the box for the serial number .. and check out the 4th and 5th digit smile.gif

so far these are in the market

36 - First Batch
37 - 50/50 chances of getting the problematic display (whatever its called)
38 - unlikely to have the display issue

edit: i still cant get rmvb to be converted into the iPod Touch ... rclxub.gif anyone managed to do it ?

You will have to monitor the price for solid state memory chip prices to see if it is viable for Apple to do so. Even the inclusion of 16GB has already made the price go up to RM1700, 32Gb and beyond and you will see the price skyrocket even further. Remember, this is solid state memory , not hard drive where prices has plateaued.

You dont have to worry, we already get batches that is beyong Week 38. Corinne Bailey Rae was the cover girl to avoid, and we get Macy Gray as the cover girl, which is already okay.

The problem was the inverted black, which makes the black level looks like you are looking into a film negative.

Get Week 38 or upper is better. New 100MB update also can help with new firmware update/black screen issue.

Well i haven't tried the method stringfellow used, but if i'm not mistaken, the File > Export feature only in Quick Time Pro?

and i can't seem to access squared5.com =(

I have got mine with Corinne Bailey Rae as the cover girl but it's a week 38 batch as the serial number suggests. But well, the problem is fixed with the update anyway.

A lot of the fears from the inverted black syndrome stems from the assumption that it is inherent in the LCD build on the unit. Thanksfully , it was software dependant, and therefore fixable via the update.

I dont know if the File Export feature is Pro exclusive only, since i've got my Pro license with Quicktime, since i need to and deal with video encoding/editing some time back. Was exploring the feasability of using Quicktime Pro with editing H.264 and AVCHD files from high definition camcorders. Im sorry if that put the step-by-step guide into a screeching halt.

If you're not too anal about video like stringfellow, Videora is very straightforward (1 click solution biggrin.gif ) and free. The video quality really is not that bad. The difference between Videora and Quicktime Pro is barely noticeable at full resolution on my computer and not at all noticeable if you're looking at it on a 3.5" screen.

Yup, Videora does the job if you need it quick and fast. Moviepod or PSP Video 9 also have iPod-specific encoding profiles which are also user-friendly. Im just picky when it comes to this. tongue.gif

I used Videora for a while last nite but couldn't get it work because it gives me white blank screen when asking me to "Choose Method" of conversion. Does that program requires an online connection to make it work?

Anyway i just had my touch early yesterday and the experience of using it in the first 24 hours have not been a pleasure. I noticed few bugs in my unit:

1. A permanent dead strip of pixel across some of my photos. It happens sometimes when i flick foward and backward too quickly. The strip will remains unless you resync the photos back to your iPod. I'll try to post up some pix as soon as i get back my digital camera.

2. Watching a movie on touch drives me up the wall. The iPod keeps crashing every 10 minutes or so! I'm certain the video file is alright.

3. Some of the album arts went missing after a while. Again, i'll have to recopy the songs to my iPod to get the album art again.

4. Somehow inaccurate battery indicator. I swear i have half the battery left when i turned it off last night and when i turn it on again this morning it warns me that less than 20% of battery power left.

I don't know if it's only me or the same problems are seen in other units too.

p/s: How long do we need to charge the touch from a flat battery to 100%, eh?

On the contrary, my experience is nothing but excellent.

A possible diagnose of your problems:-

1 - No ideas, mine hadnt exhibit such glitches. Maybe the photo resolution is way beyond what the iPod Touch can handle?

2 - This may be the result of your encoding process. The iPod Touch handled specific .m4v and .mp4 formats encoded on limited video bitrates. You may wanna head to Apple's webpage to get the specifics on this. Although iTunes will accept it whn ou add the files into the library to be synced into the Touch, the files itself may not play nice on your Touch. This is especially true if you are playing an mp4 format, since there are multiple profiles within the mp4 format itslf, from streaming prfile , right up to H264 High Definition. I totally skip the hassle of needing to know what video bitrates work and what doesnt, by nominating Quicktime to do all this limitations for me, with the Export feature. So far, i have encoded all of my movies using the guide i posted, and they all play beautifully on my iPhone/iPod Touch.

3 - Are you using a separate 3rd party album art fetcher? This may be the result of this problem you are facing. Only use iTunes album art editor to ensure compatibility. I understand the need te get things automated when yor collection is huge, but unfortunately i have yet to find any album art fetcher programs that plays nice with iTunes.

4 - When you say turn i off, do you hold it until the slider to turn the Touch off comes on, and you turn it off that way? Or did you just tap the Power button once? Doing the latter only puts it to sleep, and even in Sleep mode, it still eats into your battery. If you did turn it off entirely, that is a seriously problematic battery.

The Touch battery is certified to retain its charge within stipulated cycles, and from what i understand , one cycle is when you had the battery fully discharged to zero, and you start th charging process again. So i assume that it is not wise to let your Touch to discharge fully as this will a count as a cycle and will eat into the available charge cycles.

Any 8GB user here? So far any problem? I feel my days passing quite slow. unsure.gif

Best paragraph in one of the iPod Touch Review:

QUOTE
Unfortunately, there are a lot of overseas users who can't get the iPhone, and lots of US users who are either tied into a contract or can't buy an iPhone for other reasons. The best they can do is get a Touch, and Apple's marketing is preventing them from being able to really use the technology that's already available. Even worse, the Touch and iPhone have enough to keep them unique already.
