Havent Give him a name. Mind to suggest some name for my chinchila? He is a white mosiac costing me rm1350. For food, i bought 1. Vitakraft MENU for rabbit (cereals, derivative of vegetable origin, vegetables, mineral, oils and fats) 2. Vitakraft Alfalfa Slims (nibble sticks for rabbits) 3. Bengy Alfalfa & Nilufar Alfalfa For Sand 1. Vitakraft Chinchila SandySpecial The food is recommanded by the Pet shop. Wondering izzit suitable for Chinchila? Can i get pellet for chinchila in Penang? Thanks and best regards Danny U might wan to consider to change the sand bath to dust bath "Kaytee Chinchilla dust bath" Alfafa hay is good but u need to feed timothy hay as well. QUOTE(Chinchillas @ Oct 22 2008, 07:43 PM) Tinactina, we can't get here, but the fungus is very easy to treat one... won't upgrade your chin to stay in heaven la... Another way is, us a cotton bud, brush some fungus powder on the cotton bud you get fro pharmacy, then brush is directly on the nose, but the eyes is very teknical, if you want do it, please be very careful. OR You double up your dosage on the dust bath, now put in 2 teaspoons, maybe is too little. It will work. At the same time, keep you chin enviroment as dry as possible, recently keep on raining, sure very easy to get if not in AC room. Haha, is 800g la, the butt is very big indeed, that's why i love to picik their butt! Aiyooo, past 2 weeks I kept the door and sliding door open to let some cool air in. I think this must be the reason, moist air coz the speed growth of fungus. Thanks for telling me that, otherwise I won't even notice. My chin surely will reach 800g... picture will be post this weekend This post has been edited by shingin: Oct 22 2008, 10:59 PM |

QUOTE(Dannyoski @ Oct 23 2008, 10:24 AM) SOS I completely understand how u feel when my rocky 1st time having diarrhea. No worries, it is very common to have diarrhea but of coz something must be done la. U might wan to stop the alfafa as well, at the moment only feed them timothy. Alfafa will also cause diarrhea. I would recommend u get timothy from chinchillas as well coz his timothy is a 2nd cut timothy and a lot fresher compare to the pet shop. Chinchillas is very fussy, lousy timothy he won't buy and sell [Hey, chinchillas, I help u advertise... next time give me discount ar My Chinchilla is having diarrhoea yesterday. I got information from (http://www.eotc-pets.com/health.html) One of the best treatments is brown well done/burnt toast, the charcoal is good for the problem and helps dry up the Diarrhea. Give this a few times daily. Allow only fresh pellets and water for 24hrs (no hay or treats). If more severe sometimes it is best is to starve the chin for 12hrs, allowing only water. Burnt toast, pellets and water for the next 24hrs. You can also allow your Chin 1tsp of yoghurt; You can give 2 or 3tsp of this during the 24 hour period after the starvation at various times during the day. Your chinny will love it as well as it helping to make him better. This helps balance out the bacteria in the digestive system. Kaolin liquid (available from chemists) can be given daily, 1-3ml. I am doing the 1st step now by taking away hay (both timothy and alfalfa) and feed only pellets and fresh water. Observed less frequents of Diarrhea and more solid pop. Is it normal or causing another issue of “Constipation”. BTW, am I on the right path or any other better solution? There are many option of treatment, what is the best next step should I follow? Please advice. This is really perturbing and I monitor him and clean the pop instantly until 2am in the morning. Plan to take a day off to take care of him but work load not allow. BTW, as mention by Chinchilas, the food i have now is junk food, can anyone in penang lent me some Kaytee pellets while waiting online purchase delivery from chubby pets as recommeneded by chinchillas. Meantime i am feeding them the pellet i seperate from the junk food from both Vatakraft for rabbit and Prestige for chinchila. (he dun like the pellets from prestige). I like ur chin a lot la, sooo sooo cute. Do take good care ya and take more pics when he/she is getting better. I am super interested to get the cooling ped, but not sure what is the different between Cooling Ped(Rabbit, Chinchilla, Ferret, Guinea Pig) which u posted earlier and Aluminum cooling plate for pets, a bit confuse coz both look like the same. If I order how long can I get it? Just to reconfirm with u, the cooling ped can wash rite?
Added on October 23, 2008, 7:59 pm QUOTE(Dannyoski @ Oct 23 2008, 04:44 PM) Chinchilas and shingin, haha, we did the same thing... so worried until rush back home during lunch hours. Although Rocky is having diarrhea but he is still very active like your chin. As long as he still take water and food it will be fine for him. As for my Rocky, takes about a week plus to fully recover. U will slowly notice the shit become more solid and less moist. Any shit sticking on his fur or feet? Give him dust bath and it will slowly come out. I am completely loss and panic until i read your comment and advice. 10q 10q 10q 10q 10q...... I rush back home during lunch to change pellet to timothy hay. Pray hard for his recover now. I will take really really good care for him. BTW, although diarrhea, he is still very active. Jump here jump there. He allow me to hold him now, wonder bc he is ill or start keen to me. Here i attach more pic. ( b4 cage modification ) [attachmentid=640637] U must note that he will be dehydrate (mild type) due to diarrhea, must ensure water is all the while there. Hehe... no worries, let me know when he is fully recover yea. Help me say hi to your little one. This post has been edited by shingin: Oct 23 2008, 08:05 PM |

No harm if u wan to bath ur chin everyday. His pop back to normal after consuming lots of timothy hay ..... Solid and dry !!! Its works !!! but i still let him to rest "Kau Kau" 1st. Anyway, i am trying to clean up his leg that was contaminate by his pop during diarrhea. Its not easy though to clean without stress him. I dunno wat to do without you all bc life experiance is better than book. Thanks for all the concern, gretting, advice and guildance. Hurray... the cute one is recovered. Faster than what I expected. Danny,
As I noticed from my chins, these are the signs of overheating (mild): rapid breathing bright red ears with blood vessels engorged not active, but will run away if u try to touch them **PS: Normally happened when I shift them from aircon room to non-aircon room. Will be back to normal within an hour. Signs of overheating (serious): rapid pulse/heart beat lying on their side, and not responding to movement close by (body lembut) Reduce 90% intake of food and water **PS: only happened to my chin once coz my hubby didn't close the cage properly and he only found out on the next day morning. My chin takes approx. 3 days to get back to normal. So alwaz check the cage after u lock it. So do u encountered any sign of overheat from your chin? Ermmm, I am not sure your chin's diarrhea is due to overheat or not, but my chins's diarrhea is confirm due to the excessive intake of alfafa. Have u check on the water that u gave ur chin ar, r u using boiled water or just taip water? This post has been edited by shingin: Oct 29 2008, 10:29 PM |

QUOTE(Dannyoski @ Oct 31 2008, 03:30 PM) Hi all, My advise is dun let your chin out for too long as chins are very busy body animal, like to explore here and there, u will even see them jump to the door and wall and make some loud noise. This is how my chin got their mild overheat. I normally put them in an aircon room to play around for 1-2 hours. Later shift them back to living rooms, to prevent overheat I need to on the living room air con for awhile for them to adapt back to the living room's temp. Yesterday let him out d to explore my whole house. He can go back to his cage for pee and pop and went out again to explore. He even jump up to my cusion and climp to my shoulder. Hehe wonder where he learn tat. look at your chin and see whether they have any sign or overheat or not, otherwise it should be ok. |

QUOTE(Chinchillas @ Oct 31 2008, 04:46 PM) Added on October 31, 2008, 4:50 pm Very easy, just take him to your toilet and let him bath there, after that you 'pop pop' him to lose some dust before placr him back to your room. BUT chinchilla's dust bath is very fine, is DUST, so no matter how you 'pop pop' him, he will carry some back to the cage and when he move around, some thin layer will appear on your cabinet surface that near him. What I will do is, routine a dust bath session, after dust bath, wide the room next day, not at that moment. danny, go buy dust mop... can remove dust, hair and dirt easily. U can get from carefour for only RM30++. This post has been edited by shingin: Oct 31 2008, 07:50 PM |

Chinchillas, I suspect nono's nose got fungus. Can u pls c the pics again and reconfirm?
Danny: nono's nose got botak or not? if got fungus then u will notice the nose got less hair and u can see something like dandruff [flakes] on the nose. The pic not so clear, hopefully I have seen wrongly. Pls check nono's feet as well. **PS: Fungus is very easy to cure and my Rocky is recovering. Expected will be 100% recover and back to handsome boy status in another 2 weeks time. This post has been edited by shingin: Nov 2 2008, 02:14 AM |

QUOTE(se_eugene @ Nov 2 2008, 08:31 PM) Hmm.... quite expen than i tot actually.... Something to add on chinchillas's response:My location now is at KL,Wangsa Maju... Was hoping to get a budget lower than 1k Pls remember that to maintain a chin oso required a lot of your time, patient [bath the chins and clean up the flying shits and urine], and $$, eg. hay, pellets, aircon [if possible], dust bath, digital weight scale, etc. The amount for me to spend on my chin is definitely more than the price of a chin + starter kit. Think twice ohhh, b4 u plan to get a chin as chin's life span is 20 years. This post has been edited by shingin: Nov 2 2008, 10:30 PM |
